centos egroupware

Hi, I am trying to install egroupware. The installation tests have some warnings. What are the packages missing which I can use yum to install them? ext3/ext4 random write performance on ioDrive duo

Hi all, I have evaluated Fusion-io ioDrive duo (PCIe direct attached NAND flash memory storage) on the CentOS 5.4. The experimental result shows the write performance with multiple jobs (processes) on the ext3/ext4 filesystems is lower than that of XFS. The question I have is what is the cause of the ext3/ext4 performance limitation. I have measured the random write performance on several filesystems using fio benchmark (http://freshmeat.net/projects/fio/). My PC box has dual Intel Xeon W5590 3.33 GHz (8 cores), 48 GB memory, and Fusion-io ioDriveDuo (320 GB SLC). The XFS performance grows as the number of jobs increases. On the other hands, the ext3/ext4 do not. In the both cases, I mount filesystems with the "noatime" option only. Volume keys don't work

A side effect that I just noticed is that the volume up/down controls keys no longer seem to function at all. I reset the keyboard shortcuts to use them, but even with the whole volume control panel enabled, they don't do a thing. What did I break? I don't remember seeing this one before.... mhr

crypt question/server hotel

I want to put my server in a "server hotel". But: I don't trust my "server hotel owner". What can I do? I can crypt my partition/hdd's that contains the data. Ok. But: then my operating system will not be encrypted. Not Ok. If I crypt my operating system too, then when a reboot comes, I have to type a password to decrypt. But my server will be at a "server hotel" I can't directly use a keyboard [no service cpu]. What can I do [on technical side] to ensure a little more security to my server [e.g: crypt my partition/slice/whatever, that has the operating system, but without the "type password" ""problem""] Thank you for any tips/help.

Keyboard problem

I've had a Logitech cordless desktop on my primary desktop for the last few years, and every once in a while the number pad would just "go out" - the <enter> key and num-lock would still work, but of all the others would do nothing except the 5, which would pop-up a subwindow in some app on the screen that didn't have the focus. I thought this was aproblem with the keyboard, so I just switched to a wired keyboard, and voila - the number key pad misbehaves exactly the same way. Is this a Linx / RHEL / CentOS bug? Has anyone else seen this? I'm going to reboot to see what happens, but I'd be really, really disappointed if it all just comes back to life (meaning that it *is* a problem in the system and not the hardware).... Let us know if you can, and I'll report after I reboot. Thanks. mhr

Logserver recommendations

Hi I am using rsyslog to get logs to a central box and they are stored in the format of /<hostname>/<year>/<month>/<day>/<logfilename> I need a solution that can trawl through these directories and pick up exceptions like failed logons and sudo usage that sort of thing. Has anyone got any clues as to what might help to achieve this, i am looking into logsurfer but not sure if this handles the directory structure nicely. thanks for any tips

Samba and ldap failover - RH / Centos problem?

Hi folks, I recently got my ldap master slave samba test environment up and runing. samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 openldap-2.3.43-3.el5 The ldap systems sync fine, samba users are authenticated by each server seperatly if I set tham in the samba conf. E.g. passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap2.filmakademie.de" and passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap1.filmakademie.de" work. passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap1.filmakademie.de ldap://ldap2.filmakademie.de" works as long, as ldap1 is up. If ldap1 is down, no authentication / switchover to ldap2 is done. I've googled, looked up the samba wiki and finaly I found a posting Fedora 4 related to probems with an ldap_initialize() function ... So my question, are ther any known problems or what may I check/debug? Building an "instant on" X terminal

I got my hands on a HP t5720. This was designed as a thin-client workstation (originally Windows XPembedded, talking to a Windows terminal server). It's not very powerful, with an AMD Geode NX 1500 (1.0 GHz), 256Mb RAM (16MB used for video) and a 512Mb flash "hard disk". I plugged in a USB DVD drive and was able to boot "linux rescue" from a C5.4 32bit disk, and it basically looks like pretty generic PC hardware. So I thought this would be a great device to build as an "instant on" type device. Well, as close to instant-on as possible :-) This probably means a standard C5 build is not suitable (too many processes running; would take a while to start up). So an "X terminal", maybe. I look at the LTSP code base, but this looks like it wants to run as it's own OS; I already have a C5 server in my house, I don't want to build another one (not even as a virtual image). Acting as an X terminal, I'd guess the 256Mb RAM should be sufficient; it won't be processing much beyond the display locally (although I might want to enable ssh and add a locally connected printer). The root disk could be local (512Mb flash) or by NFS. What do people recommend for building this? What would have the quickest power-on-to-ready time? -- rgds Stephen

memory leak observed with valgrind on CentOS release 5.4 (Final)

Hi All, Not sure exactly a memory leak or not. I was porting my nagios from Redhat 7.3 to CentOS 5.4 and I observed the memory usage was gradually increasing on the new centos box. When I ran all my perl plugins with Valgrind -3.2.1, all the plugins complained about a memory leak. Not sure if it's a leak or if its fault with valgrind way of evaluating things. I have attached valgrind output when i ran a simple hello-world.pl on my centos box. I shall greatly appreciate if anyone have faced similar behaviour. Thanks, Jai Prakash

Viewing the NTP Server configured

How do i know which NTP server is my linux box contacting to synchronize its time with that of the server ? Thanks Jatin
