CUPS config choices for same printer

I'm trying to add an HP OfficeJet J5480 to my CentOS-5.4 machine. When I "List Available Printers" in CUPS, I'm given 3 choices for the same printer: ----------------------------------- HP Officejet J4500 series (CB780A) HP Officejet J4500 series (HP Officejet J4500 series USB #1) HP Officejet J4500 series (HP Officejet J4500 series USB CN89C552GR052T HPLIP) ----------------------------------- Does it matter which I choose? openfiler (was: using CentOS as an iSCSI server?)

Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd considered it or if anyone here has done it. I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to virtualization, but the direct-attached storage is a bit of an issue because with VMWare ESXi you cannot do some of the fancy stuff like "VMove" (moving a live running server from one host to another). So of course Openfiler comes to mine. However, most of this hardware has pretty significant CPU and RAM horsepower, so just running it as openfiler would be quite wasteful. What I se some people doing is - install ESXi (4.0) onto the bare metal - install openfiler as a virtual machine - give open filer all the disk - serve the disk out to other VMs via openfiler This may seem redundant vs just doing it without openfiler, but as mentioned a lot of the fancy features you only get with virtualized disk. Hi, For the last few years, I've been using exclusively Linux on servers and desktops, so I don't know anything about Microsoft products. When setting up a 100% GNU/Linux LAN, I use a local DHCP and DNS caching server, and then all the clients are configured to use DHCP. Hostnames are all handled by the server. This works very well and never causes any headaches. Now a local town hall has asked me to join their two networks (so they can exchange files via Samba), one using Windows XP on desktops, and the other running CentOS desktops. I plan to handle hostnames, IP addresses etc. as usual, by one central DHCP/DNS caching server. Right now I'm testing this on my "sandbox" network (three machines using Ghost images from various systems). I can configure a Windows XP desktop to get network configuration from the DHCP server OK, but 1) where does an XP desktops' hostname appear? 2) how can I handle it from the DHCP server (that is, *if* it's possible)? Resize iscsi partitions?

Hi, I have a c5 machine with a 3ware controller in it that I am using for iscsi targets. The iscsi target is built on lvm. The client then sees it as /dev/sdb1. If I put a gpt partition on it and try to shrink it I loose the partition table. If I expand it gparted complains with the following warning: "Not all of the space available to /dev/sda appears to be used, you can fix the GPT to use all of the space (an extra 70688768 blocks) or continue with the current setting?" The data is still there but as the warning says I can fix the issue. I am wondering if there is a way to be able to both grow and shrink the gpt partitions on iscsi? The machine is not in production yet so at this time I am just experimenting so that when I have live data on it, I can be reasonably sure that I can resize the iscsi partitions without data loss. socket: write vs send

On CentOS 5.4, Linux 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Nov 3 16:18:27 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux In man 2 send I find: The send() call may be used only when the socket is in a connected state (so that the intended recipient is known). The only difference between send() and write() is the presence of flags. With zero flags parameter, send() is equivalent to write(). In some complex server software, if the client disconnects: send: delivers errno == ECONNRESET but write: crashes the server process. So it is not really equivalent. Any thoughts on this?
