good centos/rhel source for latest spamassassin?

Is there any good rpm source for latest spamassassin for centos/rhel ? Currently using from dag's, but is is a bit old version nowdays. -- Eero

KTorrent on CentOS 5.5 does not exist

Greetings guys. What repo do I need to install to be able to install ktorrent? I have CentOS 5.5 however, when attempting to download a distro for use on a virtual machine, which only seems to provide a torrent, I am unable to locate any torrent clients, and yum installation fails for ktorrent. hplip under CentOS-5.5

Is anyone successfully using hplip under CentOS? When I try to print on my HP Officejet J4580 I always get the error ---------------------------------- Printer Filter "foomatic-rip-hplip" for printer "oj" not available: No such file or directory ---------------------------------- What I find puzzling is that I have googled for this, and it appears there has been the same problem with hplip for over a year. I'm using hplip-1.6.7-4.1.el5.4.x86_64 .

When should LVM be used?

In my old computer I have a much bigger hard drive then in this one -- and I plan to hand that old computer down to one of my sons -- keeping his current drive from an even older computer. Currently the hard drive on my old computer has SuSE Linux, but that will go. I'll rebuild CentOS 5.5 on it, but I want to leave some free space for whatever comes up and also dual-boot Vector Linux. Which, at last, brings me to the question... Is there any reason to use LVM on a personal desktop install of CentOS? It seems to me, for my purposes, that LVM is just a pain in the neck -- although I've always just let CentOS set it up during the install in the past. I would like to be able to use parted to resize partitions when I want to, and also I'd like Vector Linux to be able to read and write data to the CentOS partition. Would I be missing something by not installing LVM, or is this mostly for server purposes anyhow? Thanks for any pointers. -- RonB -- Using CentOS 5.5

Blowfish issues with somewhat big files

Hi, I've encrypted some database dumps with openssl bf -d -in dumpfile.bf -out dumpfile -k mykey bad decrypt 14142:error:06065064:digital envelope routines:EVP_DecryptFinal_ex:bad decrypt:evp_enc.c:325: The weird thing is if I do the same with smaller files it can decrypt with no problem. I use openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5 on Centos 5.4. Please could you tell me what I am doing wrong? Folks, I threatened to do this a few months ago.... Here's a first draft. I was thinking of it as something that might get posted the beginning of the month, or sent to someone who drops in with "it doesn't work!!!". PLEASE feel free, no, *please* rip, shred, tear, rend this, and help me make it usable. mark ##################################################################### 1. This mailing list is here for folks around the world to share knowledge about CentOS and Linux. This is not a paid tech support organization - if you want that, buy a RedHat subscription. 2. We are not here to do your job for you. If you think we should, perhaps you should pay us. Before asking us, have you: a) read the documentation (RTFM)? b) checked the CentOS wiki for howtos and FAQs? i) <http://centos.org>, and click on "information" ii) <http://wiki.centos.org/> c) googled for documents on the Web? 3. Many of your problems have been discussed and solved. Feel free to ask for a link to the solution, or the discussion. 4. When you post a question, a) mention the version of CentOS, and of any other software; b) give a full explanation of the problem, not merely "networking is broke, how do I fix it", or something like that, and c) Include error messages if possible. Do *not* put pages of them - edit so that you give only a few lines of example, or only the relevant message lines, not, say, the entire dump of dmesg.

Trying to get a grasp on NTP server/client access control options

Hi, I'm currently sinking my teeth into NTP, to build a local time server. So far, configuring a local NTP server and getting the clients to connect to it works well. Now, I'm thinking about securing the whole thing. BTW, I made a copy of the original ntp.conf file and started my own from scratch. Right now, I have five printed books opened on the corresponding chapters (Carla Schroder's Linux Cookbook, RHEL 5 Unleashed, Foundations of CentOS, etc.) plus the same amount of online tutorials. Right now I'm having a bit of a hard time grasping the various access control options. Here's a few lines from ntp's default configuration in CentOS : --8<------ /etc/ntp.conf ----------------------------------------------- ... server 0.centos.pool.ntp.org server 1.centos.pool.ntp.org server 2.centos.pool.ntp.org ... restrict 0.centos.pool.ntp.org mask 255.255.255.255 nomodify notrap noquery restrict 1.centos.pool.ntp.org mask 255.255.255.255 nomodify notrap noquery restrict 2.centos.pool.ntp.org mask 255.255.255.255 nomodify notrap noquery ... --8<-------------------------------------------------------------------- This means roughly : "use these three public NTP servers to synchronize, but don't let them mess with your configuration". Now, here's something from NTP's official documentation : You may use either a hostname or IP address on the 'server' line. You *must* use an IP address on the 'restrict' line. Here's the according link to the documentation : http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Support/AccessRestrictions Which leads me to the assumption that these three 'restrict' lines in the default ntp.conf configuration in CentOS are useless, since they specify hostnames, and not IP addresses. I hava not CentOS's CD,but i had made a live-usb of debian5,when i entered its rescue mode ,i found it need a CD,then i entered a shell ,but i cannot find the fs,i donnot know how i can mount the fs,because it hadnot mount command,any idea? I find CentOS had some problem:sometime there is a fs error,all icons cannot load ,then i tried log in the shell,it said there was fs error,however i rebooted the system ,everything was ok! In all those problem,i had not do any bad thing to the system.
