Mailman - searchable archive

Mailman works well for our mailing lists, but the archive is unacceptable - the worst thing is lack of search function. I got one tip for this: 1) emails converted to html format with mhonarc 2) search can be done with htdig Opinions? Transferring system to new RAID drive

Not to hijack a thread but on a similiar note. I have a Centos 4.x server with a 500G sata drive working fine except for disk I/O issues at peak times. I have copied it to a new drive before using 'dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=16384' in middle of night offline. I did that in past because 'smartctl -a /dev/sda' did not work on the old drive. Is there a way to copy it to a hardware RAID 1 array of two drives in a similiar way? If so what not too expensive 2 port hardware raid controller do you reccommend and how do you do it? Thanks. Acronis True Image or Clonezilla

I want to clone a small (80GB) disk on my CentOS server to a large (1.5TB) disk, as smart has been giving me warnings of unreadable sectors. Both disks are Western Digital, and WD has a WD version of Acronis True Image. I'm not sure whether to use this or Clonezilla. My worry with Acronis is that I want to keep the original disk, and I'm not sure from the documentation if True Image allows this. XFS on a 25 TB device

Hello all, I have just configured a 64-bit CentOS 5.5 machine to support an XFS filesystem as specified in the subject line. The filesystem will be used to store an extremely large number of files (in the tens of millions). Due to its extremely large size, would there be any non-standard XFS build/configuration options I should consider? Thanks. Boris.

[Slightly OT] "Open Source Development + Tools" - Book/Resource?

Greetings all- My apologies for the slightly OT post. My primary production platform *IS* CentOS 5.x with a minor scattering of 4.x machines behind firewalls here and there... I find that I'm being placed more and more into a 'quasi-developer' role which strays some from my normal system/network admin duties. Specifically, having to work with the deep internals of make, autoconf, libtool, cross platform compilation, non-standard libs, etc. My head spins some days trying to work through some of these types of issues. I'm hoping someone knows of a good resource or book that explains the general 'open source' or '*NIX' method of application development, compilation, and dependency/library handling. Specifically, how to take source, and turn it into a "./configure, make, make install" type release and everything that is involved in doing so. I certainly have experience compiling, installing, using software in this manner, but I would like (need?) to learn more about how it all works. Google has been helpful if I'm looking for direct documentation of each of the standard tools (gcc, make, autoconf, libtool, etc), but I've been unable to find something that details the components together, and explains their relationship. Again, my apologies for the OT post. I hope some bright minds on the list can shed a few thoughts. --Tim

Forbidden: can't access *.html files in /var/www/html

Hello, I'm using the latest CentOS with phpBB 3.0.x + postgreSQL + sendmail (relayed through gmail.com) - all those programs working fine, with no big modifications of the CentOS defaults (i.e. SELinux is on). Now I'm struggling with the seemingly simple problem, that when I put an .html file into /var/www/html/ then Apache won't serve it. In the browser I see: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /Alex.html on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at XXXX Port 80" In the /var/log/httpd/error_log (I've set "LogLevel debug") I only see: "[error] [client 10.216.40.68] (13)Permission denied: access to /Alex.html denied [error] [client 10.216.40.68] (13)Permission denied: access to /Alex.html denied" The other filetypes like crossdomain.xml and index.php or hello-world.php are served just fine. Also, if I move my *.html files under /var/www/html/test/ - then they are served ok. Is there a document with instructions for this? I've had smartd warnings that a hard disk in my server is sick, so I am installing a new drive (in addition to the old). I was thinking of copying the old root partition with sudo cp -a -P /* /mnt/hd (after mounting the prospective new root partition). Then I'd have to modify the new /etc/fstab .
