Network Scanner and CentOS 5.5

I have an HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One color printer. Printing works great, but I cannot get xsane to locate it on the local subnet. I've been to the sane site and looked at the backends. The HP 3210 is supported by hpio and there is a note that hpio is no longer needed because the functionality has been rolled int hplip. yum shows hplip is installed: hplip.x86_64 1.6.7-4.1.el5.4 installed Everything is on an internal nat address space. Host is at .1, Photosmart is at .251 /etc/services contains an entry for sane-port xinet.d/ has a file for sane and sane-port (both identical) iptables allows all outbound and established. I've gone through several sets of guidance found on the Intenet. Almost all is for usb or scsi. Very little guidance on sane-net. Finally found one good set of guidance and followed it to configure dll.conf, and net.conf. I've looked at sane.net man page untill I'm cross-eyed. Anyone successfully scanning from an HP Photosmart network printer? Dave M

nvidia failure with new kernel

I installed TrueCrypt and when I ran it, it informed me that I needed a new kernel. So I ran "yum update". I boot to level 3, and when I ran startx, I got: -- ... (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" FATAL: Module nvidia not found. (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages. (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0) (EE) No drivers available. Fatal server error: no screens found XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. -- If I boot with the old kernel, I can successfully run startx. can't start iscsi - and can't find answer on google

Hi all, I have the strangest problem on one of our backup server. iscsi doesn't start at all, and gives the following error: [root@2U-NAS ~]# /etc/init.d/iscsi status iscsid is stopped [root@2U-NAS ~]# /etc/init.d/iscsi start iscsid is stopped Starting iSCSI daemon: Unable to create pid file: /var/run/brcm_iscsiuio.pid [FAILED] Setting up iSCSI targets: iscsiadm: No records found! [ OK ] [root@2U-NAS ~]# /etc/init.d/iscsi restart Stopping iSCSI daemon: iscsiadm: can not connect to iSCSI daemon (111)! iscsiadm: initiator reported error (20 - could not connect to iscsid) iscsiadm: Could not stop iscsid. Trying sending iscsid SIGTERM or SIGKILL signals manually iscsid is stopped [ OK ] Starting iSCSI daemon: Unable to create pid file: /var/run/brcm_iscsiuio.pid [FAILED] Setting up iSCSI targets: iscsiadm: No records found! [ OK ] All other services on this machine works fine and could write their pid file, but not iscsi. Google search didn't help me much with this error either. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iSCSi but that doesn't help either. Procmail recipie to forward via smtp

Kernel Errors Present

I'm getting this message in my logwatch email notification: --------------------- Kernel Begin ------------------------ WARNING: Kernel Errors Present sdb:<3>Buffer I/O error on device sdb, l ...: 2 Time(s) Buffer I/O error on device sdb, l ...: 12 Time(s) hde: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStat ...: 12 Time(s) hde: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } ...: 12 Time(s) ---------------------- Kernel End ------------------------- It's an old drive I'm using for swap space, /var, and /tmp. (It's on a PCI IDE controller, that's why it comes up as hde.) If I test it for bad sectors using Vivard, there are no bad sectors found or remapped. I'm just trying to move a lot of regular disk I/O from my main drive with the root installtion on it, to a replaceable spare. I cannot find which log file these messages are going to. Nothing in /var/log/dmesg or messages. Where does logwatch get these messages from? problem mounting external drive

On my Centos box with: uname -r 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 I tried to mount my 2T external drive with: mount -t ntfs /dev/sdg1 /mnt/wd and I get: mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs' Thanks in advance for your help. Mike.

They are not on a ups at the moment since these boxes are being test. I've seen one memtest iteration pass, but 2 or 3 were needed before a failure showed up. nic bonding

I've just setup nic bonding on our server (DL585-G7 running Centos 5.5 x86_64) as detailed on the wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/BondingInterfaces and all seems fine but from other "howto's" I've seen on the web, they're should be a /proc/net/bond0/info As far as I can see, I don't have one and I'm not sure if it should be there or its absence is a sign I've done something wrong. I found /proc/net/dev_snmp6/bond0 but is the same? Any ideas?
