RAID configuration suggestion???

we have several DELL R900 with PERC 6/E adapter in it. R900 using Redhat Linux. Each R900 have two PERC 6/E adapter and at least two MD1000 connect to it. Configuration 1: PERC 6/E -- two MD1000 PERC 6/E -- empty Configuration 2: PERC 6/E -- MD1000 PERC 6/E -- MD1000 Normally first MD1000 for database and second MD1000 for nightly backup. My co-worker told me there is NO difference on performance or battery life on botn configurations. I would like listen to your opinion on follwoing: 1. which configuration have better performance? 2. put two MD1000 on same PERC 6/E adapter will cause battery life shorter? 3. other comment? Thanks.

ext4 or XFS

Hi all, I've a 30TB hardware based RAID array. Wondering what you all thought of using ext4 over XFS. I've been a big XFS fan for years as I'm an Irix transplant but would like your opinions. This 30TB drive will be an NFS exported asset for my users housing home dirs and other frequently accessed files. - aurf

Bonding performance question

I have a Dell server with four bonded, gigabit interfaces. Bonding mode is 802.3ad, xmit_hash_policy=layer3+4. When testing this setup with iperf, I never get more than a total of about 3Gbps throughput. Is there anything to tweak to get better throughput? Or am I running into other limits (e.g. was reading about tcp retransmit limits for mode 0). parted usage

Hello again, Been an interesting day. I'm attempting to use parted to create a partition on a 28TB volume which consists of 16x2TB drives configuired in a Raid 5 + spare, so total unformatted size is 28TB to the OS.. However upon entering parted, and making a gpt label, print reports back as follows; Model: Areca ARC-1680-VOL#000 (scsi) Disk /dev/sdc: 2199GB Sector Size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: gpt Why is the disk reporting ~2TB? Should I be using another partitioning tool for such a large volume? - aurf

hey guys, wanna know where to find my graphics card driver for centos5.5 coz the 5.4 support it and xserver start automaticly but the 5.5 doesnot start and tried to reconfigure the xorg.conf but it doesnot work too. and i noticed that the hardware prob process find a different driver for my card . mine is arrandle.intel! my system is a dell studio laptop 1569! thnx in advance

I am trying to plug a USB 2 device in a USB 3 slot. Nothing is being detected in "lsusb". Is there something special I need to do? I am running centos 5.5 x86_64. I thought 3.0 was backward compatible. Nothing special about my device its an RS232 to USB device. It works in 2.0 slot. Thanks, Jerry

Hi guys, I've been working on a yum repo for PHP 5.2 and today I wanted to update it[1], however on a test machine using my PHP packages (e.g. php-common-5.2.16-1nux) a yum update to the new RPMs with version 5.2.17 gives the following error: "Error: Package tuple ('php-common', 'i386', '0', '5.2.17', '1nux') could not be found in packagesack". Any rpm guru around has an idea of what is causing this?
