IE 9 not sending digest auth info

I migrated our internal wiki server last week, and some IE users aren't able to authenticate. The service is hosted by Apache using Digest authentication. It migrated from Apache 2.2.9 (Debian 5) to Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS 6). The internal hostname for the wiki server is a DNS CNAME that was repointed from one host to another during the cutover. In a normal session, 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client sends GET with Authorization header 4. Server sends 200 with Authentication-Info header and page content When using IE 9 (and possibly 8, I'm still trying to track that down), 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client resends GET (*without* Authorization header) 4. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 5. Etc. IE seems to be ignoring 401 and/or the WWW-Authenticate headers. Using Chrome on Windows works fine; the issues are specific to IE. Any ideas? iso size?

I've been being told, over and over, by K3B, Brasero, and Isomaster, on two machines, with three different downloads of 6.0, that the file is too large for the medium. Nautilus and the browser that die each download all say it's 4.4 GB; I've tried with two +R and an RW DVD, all of which are labelled 4.7 GB Two of the files are 32-bit, and one is 64 What is going wrong?? -- Beartooth Staffwright, Not Quite Clueless Power User I have precious (very precious!) little idea where up is.

CentOS4 desktop has stopped recognizing removable media - haldaemon problem?

USB sticks and cameras used to pop right up on my desktop. Now they don't. I've checked the Gnome "Drives and Media Preferences" and nothing has changed -- I have "Mount removable media when inserted" etc. (Tried toggling it off and back on, no effect.) I've logged out and back in, even rebooted. /var/log/messages shows the devices are being recognized by udev: Jun 27 19:53:37 torch kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sde at scsi11, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Jun 27 19:53:37 torch scsi.agent[13576]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.1/usb1/1-5/1-5:1.0/host11/target11:0:0/11:0:0:0 Jun 27 19:53:37 torch udevd[1347]: udev done! Jun 27 19:53:47 torch udevd[1347]: udev done! However, that's followed by this: Jun 27 19:54:07 torch hald[5179]: Timed out waiting for hotplug event 699. Rebasing to 699 I restarted hald (service haldaemon restart) and it picked up one of the two devices I'd plugged in, but not the other.

Centos 5.7--desktop icons are now a blank sheet of paper with the .desktop filename and they don't work

Just rebooted my box (switched keyboards, and since it's a PS/2 keyboard, it needs to be done at poweroff) and when it came back up, (almost) all the desktop icons I've created (as distinct from the ones that came with the system) now don't display correctly. Instead of the graphic assigned to each, it's just a picture of a blank sheet of paper with the corner folded over, and the icon text is the name of the .desktop file that defines the particular item. worse, when I click one, they don't work... I get a popup window containing this text (when attempting to fire up a local rebuild of Audacity, or the appropriate name when attempting to use one of the other ones): The filename "Audacity (local build).desktop" indicates that this file is of type "desktop document". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "desktop configuration file". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "desktop configuration file", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. Need help in writing a shell/bash script

Hi Friends, I am trying to write a shell script which can merge the 2 columns into 3rd one on Centos 5. The file is very long around 31200 rows having around 1370 unique groups and around 12000 unique user-names. The 1st column is the groupname and then 2nd column is the user-name. 1st Column (Groupname) 2nd Column (username) admin ankush admin amit powerusers dinesh powerusers jitendra The desired output should be like this admin: ankush, amit powerusers: dinesh, jitendra There are commands available but not able to use it properly to get the desired output. c6, LSI megaraid drive failure notification

i'm configuring a storage server with CentOS 6.2, it uses a LSI MegaRAID SAS controller, I'm using LSI's megacli to configure the storage... Any ideas on how to get drive failure notifications out of this system? I'm configuring hot spares but I'd still like some sort of notification when a drive has failed so the spare can be replaced. -- john r pierce N 37, W 122 santa cruz ca mid-left coast

Does anyone know CENTOS/Redhat 6.X compatible to ORACLE software (X86 and X86_64) version like 9.X, 10GR2, 11G and 11GR2. Any official document say that? Thanks.

vsftpd log issues

I have an up-to-date CentOS 6 with reasonable amount of ftp activity (a dozen of network cameras uploading images every second 24x7). The first issue was that the whole /var filesystem was about to get full, because of huge ftp daemon log. vsftpd.conf says: # You may override where the log file goes if you like. The default is shown # below. xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log Ok, the above works now. But while the setting was (by default) commented out, the default wasn't /var/log/vsftpd.log but /var/log/xferlog which was growing without limits (it was over 6 GB when I first time noticed the problem) since logrotate tried to rotate vsftpd.log -rw------- 1 root root 0 Dec 31 03:07 vsftpd.log -rw------- 1 root root 39134459 Dec 31 12:19 vsftpd.log.1 -rw------- 1 root root 433305200 Dec 30 22:03 xferlog Now, after uncommenting the log file setting line in the conf the next issue is, that logrotate does rotate the log files (the old one gets .1 postfix added to its name and a new file is created), but it still keeps writing to the original file (which is renamed now) In the ls -l listing above: - vsftpd started to write log vsftpd.log around 10pm last night (when I uncommented the log setting from the conf and restarted the daemon, until that it was logging to xferlog) - during the night logrotate has changed the name of the existing log file to ...log.1 but now, several hours later, this renamed old file is still used for logging, and the new ...log file remains empty! Is there some simple option in logrotate's conf that could change this behaviour? Or how to fix this. There must be many others who already have run into this issue. Regards, Timo

what percent of time are there unpatched exploits against default config?

Suppose I have a CentOS 5.7 machine running the default Apache with no extra modules enabled, and with the "yum-updatesd" service running to pull down and install updates as soon as they become available from the repository. (Assume further the password is strong, etc.) On the other hand, suppose that as the admin, I'm not subscribed to any security alert mailing lists which send out announcements like "Please disable this feature as a workaround until this hole is plugged", so the machine just hums along with all of its default settings. So the machine can still be broken into, if there is an unpatched exploit released in the wild, in the window of time before a patch is released for that update. On the other hand, at any point in time where there are no unpatched exploits in the wild, the machine should be much harder to break into. Roughly what percent of the time is there such an unpatched exploit in the wild, so that the machine can be hacked by someone keeping up with the exploits? 5%? 50%? 95%? Hopefully this is specific enough that the answer is not "it depends" :) , an actual numeric answer should exist -- although I don't know if anyone has ever tried to work it out. But if not, then what's a good guess, based on observing how frequently root exploits are released in the wild, and how long the patches usually take. Bennett
