proftpd graphical clients not working

Hello list, With my latest proftpd server graphical client error on list (ls) directory: Error: Could not read from socket: ECONNRESET - Connection reset by peer Error: Disconnected from server Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing So far I've tried both filezilla and cyberduck. Group permission problems [RESEND]

Hello all, Re-sending due to incorrect mapping of linefeeds from hotmail. I'm having an issue with group permissions. I have created a group called smbusers which I have added myself to, with the following commands: # groupadd smbusers # usermod -G smbusers michael I then create a directory called foodir, owned by adm with group smbusers. Permissions are correct (770) but I cannot access the directory. When I change permissions to 777, I can access. Below is output from various commands, run as user michael: $ groups michael michael: michael, smbusers $ groups michael adm $ id uid=500(michael) gid=500(michael) groups=4(adm), 500(michael) The /etc/group file shows I'm in the smbusers group but does not show I'm in the adm group (although I believed I added myself to the adm group when I installed CentOS). Clearly, I don't know what I'm doing and I'm confused. Can anybody guide me to where I need to go? Thanks, Michael

Perl package problems too (different)

Hello there, since yersterday, there's a massive update ready for my CentOS 6 (kept up-to-date, including w/ cr updates). iSCSI best practices

Hey folks, I had some general questions and when reading through the list archives I came across an iSCSI discussion back in February where a couple of individuals were going back and forth about drafting up a "best practices" doc and putting it into a wiki. Did that ever happen? And if so, where is it? Now my questions : We are not using iSCIS yet at work but I see a few places where it would be useful e.g. a number of heavy-use NFS mounts (from my ZFS appliance) that I believe would be slightly more efficient if I converted them to iSCSI. I also want to introduce some virtual machines which I think would work out best if I created iSCSI drives for them back on my Oracle/Sun ZFS appliance. I mentioned iSCSI to the guy whose work I have taken over here so that he can concentrate on his real job, and when I mentioned that we should have a separate switch so that all iSCSI traffic is on it's own switch, he balked and said something like "it is a switched network, it should not matter". But that does not sit right with me - the little bit I've read about iSCSI in the past always stresses that you should have it on its own network. So 2 questions : - how important is it to have it on its own network? - is it OK to use an unmanaged switch (as long as it is Gigabit), or are there some features of a managed switch that are desirable/required with iSCSI? thanks, -Alan -- “Don't eat anything you've ever seen advertised on TV” - Michael Pollan, author of "In Defense of Food"

auto-creating a local yum cache?

Hey folks, I just did an update on a system that is taking the better part of a day ( 5.3 ---> 5.7 ) mainly due to file download times. And I have 4 or 5 more systems to do. I know I can create my own repository and then point them at it - but that is difficult here because rsync is blocked (ggrrrrrr...) Surely there must be a way to have yum on the first box automatically cache everything and then have the other boxes use the cache? Maybe if not directly, then with squid or something like that? Oops! The actual clue in yp.conf is: ; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script So I was looking in the wrong place. yum - sqlite SIGSEVG

I've got a CentOS 6.1 x86_64 VM running atop CentOS 6.1 x86_64 KVM host. The VM is in production, so any fix needs to be fairly non-intrusive. In the VM, yum consistently segfaults when reading non-base repositories. The problem appears to be related to the faulty creation of /var/cache/yum/x86_64/<<reponame>>/primary.xml.gz.sqlite The latest installment of this problem is related to the 6.1 cr repository, but it's happened with other non-base repos in the past. Steps to duplicate, fix, and re-duplicate the problem: 1. "yum clean all && yum update" will segfault. strace shows that the SIGSEGV is received while doing work in the cr repository. 2. Run "yum clean all && yum update" on a different CentOS machine that uses the exact same yum repositories. The copy /var/cache/yum/x86_64/6/cr/primary.xml.gz.sqlite from the working machine to the broken one. 3. "yum update" on the broken machine works flawlessly! 4. "yum clean all && yum update" on the broken machine (which removes and tries to rebuild the .sqlite file) will segfault once again. The primary.xml.gz.sqlite file that gets created on the broken VM is quite a bit smaller than that on all my working machines. On the broken machine, it looks like PRAGMA foreign_keys=OFF; BEGIN TRANSACTION; CREATE TABLE db_info [...]; CREATE TABLE packages [...]; # several more CREATE TABLE commands CREATE TRIGGER removals [...]; COMMIT; On all my working machines, it looks like PRAGMA foreign_keys=OFF; BEGIN TRANSACTION; CREATE TABLE db_info [...]; INSERT INTO "db_info" [...]; CREATE TABLE packages [...]; # several more CREATE TABLE commands CREATE TRIGGER removals [...]; CREATE INDEX packagename [...]; # several more CREATE INDEX commands COMMIT; The working machine all do an INSERT into db_info and create several indexes; the broken machine does not. Otherwise, the sql statements are identical. On the broken machine, I've done yum reinstall sqlite yum reinstall python yum reinstall yum\* But the outcome is the same.
