Kickstart and lvm

I've written some %pre code to grab a few files off a logical volume, if it exits, before the disk gets formatted, but can't get get it to work correctly. Essentially: %pre ... lvm vgscan lvm vgchange -a y ... if [ -d /dev/vol0 ]; then # do stuff fi lvm vgremove -f vol0 The problem is that /dev/vol0 does not exist after lvm vgchange. I added a few debug statements (lvm pvdisplay, lvm vgdisplay, lvm lvdisplay, ls -l /dev) that confirm the existance of all logical volumes, but there's no sign of the volume group under /dev. What am I missing?

Choosing network interface to send traffic through

I've got a server that initially was connected to a static WAN connection via eth0. Now I've added a second NIC eth1 connected to a local network switch with the intention of using it as a backup remote access connection via a dynamic ADSL connection. The problem now is getting the IP address of the dynamic ADSL connection. I've written a script that updates another server with the current IP address in order to ssh in which was used on my own home server also running Centos 5. But in the case of two NICs, I cannot find a way to make the outbound traffic of the script use eth1 instead of the default gateway on eth0. There are instructions on using iproute to ensure that a connection coming in from eth1 will work properly. But this only appears to work for when the connection is initiated externally through eth1. The only way I found that might work is adding a static route, but then this assumes that I'll always be connecting from the same external IP. Does anybody know if what I'm trying to achieve is possible?

Just updated 98 packages on this ole hardware raid 10 box - 5.6 final is running just fine. No problems. THANKS. Ed Westphal

5.6 is out, great my first upgrade didn't work...

5.6 is out. That is good news. I did a yum update on one of my non-critical server, and the server stoped responding to ping after the reboot, and never answered back. It's now been 10 minutes, so I'll have to take a ride to the colo... Nice work dev team, keep up the good work. Let's hope that C6 will come soon ! I'm eager to upgrade.

Just a question about the Announce List

Did the Announce go out for CentOS 5.6, or are people just jumping the gun? If it went out, I missed it, and need to look at my spam filters. If it hasn't gone out yet, then maybe I'm OK... See... No "is it ready" crap in here!
