Capturing ftp reponses

I am writing a script to automatically connect via ftp from a CentOS-5 host to one of our older (non-*nix OS) systems. The only common protocol that the remote host supports is ftp. What I want to do is to capture the initial response that comes back from that host before the user credentials are passed and log this information. I cannot seem to hit upon the right set of redirects to make this happen. In my script I invoke ftp thus: ftp -un "$TARGET_HOST" << EOS >> ${LOGGING_FILE} 2>&1 user $LOGON dir quit EOS When I connect to the host via ftp interactively from a session then I see this: Connected to host.domain.tld. 220 HP ARPA FTP Server [A0012H15] (C) Hewlett-Packard Co. 2000 [PASV SUPPORT] Remote system type is MPE/iX. However, the first line that I find in the logging file is the results of the dir command following the user command. ClearOS rebuild

This week's FLOSS Weekly interview is about ClearOS (audio/video at http://twit.tv/floss168). Apparently they have taken the CentOS developer's frequently given advice to go away and do it yourself and will have a 'ClearOS core' release that is their own rebuild from Red Hat sources that will be the base for the ClearOS enterprise distribution instead of relying on CentOS as they have before. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

nfs webroot 403's

hello list!! the reason I'm writing you guys today is that I'm looking to solve an issue I am having with apache on a centos 5.5 box. The situation is this.. I am sharing the webroot for a few sites in a test environment on an NFS share. This is the share: nas2:/mnt/store/web 1.4T 225G 1021G 19% /var/www Everything that is shared from this location on a server called simply web1 403's no matter what document you hit. On another web sever called web2 the opposite is true. Every document you share is correctly served. The error log is located here: ErrorLog "/var/log/httpd/jokefire.com-error_log" Yet when I try to generate some activity in the logs by hitting pages nothing turns up in that log. I've downloaded and installed postfix from CentosPlus couse i needed the MySql support version of postfix, but i need to know if i've could have problems if any new version it's been released from the official mirror of the same pack, how can i handle the updates, witch the best way?. virt-install hell: how to *force* a local CD-ROM install?

I have a CentOS 5.6 system with a AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 (which does not provide hardware virtualization support, so I can't use the --cdrom option) and I am *trying* to install FC15 as a guest O/S using a local FC15 DVD-ROM image. Everything work until the installer *insists* on firing up the network to get the repo data, etc. I have a *dial-up* Internet connection and this is a *desktop* machine and is thus pretty much anchored where it is. I have googled this, but it seems no one uses local DVD images. (Of cource *everyone* in the world, except for rural America, has broadband.) I was able to install FC15 on a old IDE disk connected via a USB port after booting a burned copy of the DVD. *Everything* needed to install the *minimual* system I want to install is there on the DVD, but I can't seem to get the FC15 installer to believe that. I *don't* want or need the updates at this time (maybe later). Oh, and the virt-viewer is chopping off the right third of the graphical display. Is there any way to fix that? It would let me resize the viewer window and does not provide scroll bars, etc. Or is the FC15 installer having a stupid idea of the virtual machine virtual monitor size? Can *that* be changed (the virtual machine's virtual monitor size)? BIND9 - automatic zone definition replication to slave

Hello, I have simple question - is there a way to automatically replicate zone definition (not zone itself - this is easy) to slave server using BIND9? Is it BIND built-in or are there prebuilt scripts? Or I have to write that script on my own (started by Cron, transfer file with zone names, create conf file and finallly restart BIND?)? How exactly to use the tag "Obsoletes:" in a spec file ? I need to offer texlive to users on Centos-5.6, so I packaged it (based on a Mandriva src.rpm), and that works. But I want rpm to *replace* tetex by texlive, instead of just adding texlive, when users do a : $ yum install texlive (we have a local repo here). So I added this line in texlive.spec : Obsoletes: tetex and of course I rebuilt the package, and (of course) that just don't work, despite tetex is listed among the Obsoleted packages : $ rpm -qp --obsoletes texlive-20110312-0phn.x86_64.rpm dvi2tty <= 5.3.1 jadetex kpathsea <= 20100722 kpathsea-devel <= 20100722 kpathsea-static-devel <= 20100722 pdfjam <= 1.21 ps2eps <= 1.64 tetex tetex-context tetex-devel tetex-dvipdfm tetex-dvips tetex-dvilj tetex-latex tetex-mfwin tetex-texi2html tetex-usrlocal tetex-xdvi etc... (tetex is the CentOS one : tetex-3.0-33.8.el5_5.6) Can someone explain me why this fails, and eventually an other way to solve this problem ? Thanks, -- Philippe
