Installing from CD

Folks The machine I'm trying to load does not have a DVD reader, but only a CD reader. Are the multiple CD images of CENTOS 6 available somewhere? Earlier versions had them. Thanks David

centos 64 bit

Hello all, I am running CentOS 5.6 64 bit. When running "yum -y install ncurses-devel", I expect that only ncurses 64 bit version will be installed. However, actually both i386 and x64 are installed, that made me unhappy :) ncurses-devel-5.5-24.20060715.i386.rpm ncurses-devel-5.5-24.20060715.x86_64.rpm Is there anything worng here? Lock files in scripts

I was about to ask here how to do proper locking in a bash script when I found a page that addressed my objections to the race conditions I was finding in most sample code: <http://www.davidpashley.com/articles/writing-robust-shell-scripts.html> I just wanted to pass on the link to anyone else that needs this. One thing not addressed is how to deal with an orphaned lock file (eg. if the system crashes with the lock held). He stores the PID in the lock file, so one could look up the matching process and see if it's the script that's expected to create it. Otherwise one should be safe in deleting the lock file and trying again.

Setting hostname and network settings in 6.0 text mode installer

I'm doing my first 6.0 install the same way as I've always done my server installs -- in text mode. But it looks like there's no option to do the following in the 6.0 text mode installer? * Set hostname * Set network settings * Choose packages I really hope I'm missing something because having to use a GUI to install a server is incredibly painful. Centos 6 Server has no GUI

Hi, So first daft question with Centos 6 (someone had to be first!) I've setup Centos 6 as a Server but as with Centos 5 it used to boot into the GUI but v6 doesn't do this, startx etc doesn't seem to work to launch the GUI Any suggestions on how I can get this to work? Thank you Keith

EL4 and spamassassin info

greetings, have been google foo for week or so. used to be super easy to upgrade spamassassin on CentOS dist. just grab the tarball and put in right spot and rpmbuild -tb spamassassin-3.somethingsomething.tar.gz then rpm or yum install and done would take just a few minutes. Yet... in regards to EL4 / CentOS 4 and spamassassin, it appears the end of the road for .spec in SA tarball evidentally some admins had a hard time doing the above for some perl issues. we havent had urgent need to upgrade one of our legacy mail servers that is still on 4. that will change of course with Centos6 out now. this is, did anyone roll a spamassassin 3.3.2 for CentOS4 / EL4 yet? tips or share rpms please? - rh

make install?

Dear All I downloaded the octave-3.4.2 and tried to install it on my centos 5.6 as the following: #./configure But it prompted for lack of a c compiler, so I tried to install gcc first and then re-executed it and it was successful. #make But it prompts as "No targets specified and no makefile found". #make install But it prompts as "No rule to make target 'install'". I had the same steps for installing applications when I was on my centos 5.0 machine. Can you please let me know what is wrong my case? Thank you
