Bind DDNS updates

So according to the Bind arm, `rndc freeze zone ...` should drop the jrn file and flush its deltas. I have tested this and it's not updating the master on my 5.6 box with bind-9.3.6, it drops the jrn and discards the deltas after an unfreeze|thaw. A service restart behaves as expected. Anyone know what's up with that, is it fixable? I don't really have the time to update to 9.7 if that's a possible fix. Thanks, jlc

Changing Host Name

Thanks to all of you who are answering my dumb questions about my new CentOS instgallation. I modified /etc/hosts, as the hostname man page seemed to suggest, and rebooted. The hostname is still localhost. I want to change it to jjb-centos. I also want to change the domain name to abilitiessoft.com Thanks, John -- John J. Quota (and disk usage) is incorrectly reported on nfs client mounting XFS filesystem

hi all, I hope you can help me with a strange quota/nfs/XFS behavior... I'm using Centos 5.6 on both a nfs server and client. Both are 64-bit, and using a recent kernel: NFS server: Linux fs2.priv 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue May 31 13:22:04 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux NFS client: Linux nx8.priv 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue May 31 13:22:04 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The NFS server is exporting a XFS filesystem: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vgXX-lvXX 24T 16T 8.2T 66% /export User foo (for anonymity) added ~3TB of data in the last 2-3 days. On the NFS server, her quota is reported as ~5.8 TB: Disk quotas for user foo (uid 1314): Filesystem blocks quota limit grace files quota limit grace /dev/mapper/vgXXX-lvXXX 6129681348 7490000000 0 6991914 0 0 On a NFS client, her quota is reported as ~1.8TB: Disk quotas for user foo (uid 1314): Filesystem blocks quota limit grace files quota limit grace fs2:/XXXXX 1831504512 3195032704 0 6988049 0 0 When I modify her quota on the NFS sever, it's not reflected on the NFS client. This problem is specific user foo. There are about 20 other users with quotas on this NFS server, and if I change one of their quotas, the quota/usage is correctly (and instantly) reflected on the NFS client. rpc.quotad is configured to use port 875, and I can see this is working with strace. And tcpdump shows an established connection: 16:50:04.480757 IP nx8.priv.pssc > fs2.priv.875: UDP, length 116 16:50:04.481015 IP fs2.priv.875 > nx8.priv.pssc: UDP, length 68 Any ideas? Thanks! Power-outage

I have a CentOS-5.6 remote server in a house in Italy, where there are occasional thunder-storms. There was one yesterday, when the electricity went off 3 times, for a second or so on each occasion. My server, an HP MicroServer, came back (re-booted) on 2 of the 3 occasions, but not on the third. I assume that the problem arises because the machine does not close down properly. (Although it is also possible that a voltage surge might have been responsible - I have no surge protector on this supply.) It seems to me that it should be possible to have a simple, torch-battery operated, system which will keep the machine alive long enough to make a graceful exit. A full-blown UPS would be excessive, I think, as I only want the machine to re-boot when the current comes back on. I know there is a Remote Management (iLO) card for this machine, which might be useful for this. Unfortunately, I've already used the PCIe slot for a second ethernet card. Hi I am trying to install CentOS 5.6 on HP DL 180 G6 which has HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller Driver. I have 4 * 500 GB SATA HDD and configured RAID 1+0 using System BIOS, the BIOS detects usable disk space as 940GB disk space, when i start installing the OS, it does not detect HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller Driver As per http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?la… Is there a way to get .iso file during installation of CentOS Linux ? I would like to run a program at 2:35 at the first Saturday of each odd month. My solution: 35 2 1-7 1,3,5,7,9,11 6 /bin/program The program was executed yesterday = Wednesday = day 3, cron ignores the day of the week! Is there a solution with cron - or have I to write a script to check the date? Helmut

CentOS on the HP MicroServer

I'm been running two HP MicroServers as home-servers under CentOS-5.6 for 2 months, and have been very happy with their performance. I'm wondering if there are many other MicroServer/CentOS users around? I've been surprised when looking at the MicroServer forums (eg <<http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking-nas/ 1431514-hp-proliant-microserver-n36l-owners-thread.html>) how few posts I see from CentOS users, even though RHEL is one of the only two OS's officially supported by HP for this machine (the other is Windows Home Server). Is there by chance a MicroServer/CentOS forum anywhere? I haven't been able to locate one. The MicroServer is incredibly cheap at the moment, as HP keep extending their cash-back offer which brings the price down to about €160 (with 1GB RAM and a 250GB SATA disk). There is a large amount of official HP Linux support, eg the "HP Smart Update Manager", though as usual with HP software I find it quite difficult to use. Strange autotools error

I am using CentOS 5.6, autoconf 2.59 and automake 1.9.6. I run an autogen script which cleans all autotools files and then installs new ones. If the appliction has no dependencies running configure, make and make install works fine. However if it has dependencies I get the messages "Creating Makefile" and "Could not find input file Makefile". I've herd that I need another development package. What is it? Or what causes these contradictory messages? I must say that I have encountered this sort of problem only on CentOS. Thanks, John -- John J.
