If anyone really needs to do this, there is a patch in the gdm srpm called plymoth.patch that changes the parameters. It's located on line 225. If you change that to what you need and recompile it, it should work. Not that I recommend this... Unfortunately in CentOS6 this is not the case. It completely ignores anything put into custom.conf as far as I can tell. It appears to run with -nr -verbose -auth -nolisten tcp by default. The Live media produced within the CentOS Project is based on and around the livemedia tools from the Fedora Project. non PAE support

Does anyone know what I would have to modify in 6 if I wanted to run on an older Pentium M CPU without PAE? Is it just the kernel that needs to be rebuilt (maybe while installed in a system with a supported CPU)? Or are there other components that would cause problems and need to be rebuilt too? How to remove Microsoft soft raid?

Have a quad core workstation that was running WinXP_64 that I want to blow away and install CentOS 6. C6 install process finds raid metadata associated with sda and sdb, and then excludes them from the rest of the installation process. There doesn't appear to be an option for disassembling the raid as part of the install process. I think there should be. Any tricks to removing/by-passing the soft raid left over from the previous OS? Dave M

Kickstart and CentOS 6...

Hey, I am trying to upgrade my kickstart usb key to 6.0 and I ran into a few issues. I boot with: append initrd=initrd.img ks=hd:sdb2:/ks.cfg repo=hd:sdb2:/centos and in the ks.cfg I have: harddrive --partition=sdb2 --dir=/centos and on sdb2 I have: sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso It fails from the beginning unless I add /images inside /centos, If I do: sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso sdb2:/centos/CentOS-6.0-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso sdb2:/centos/images/install.img it goes all the way until after the pre script and then complain that sdb2:/centos does not contain the installation images... I suspect it does not give a damn about the two DVD isos and expect the unpacked content... But with CentOS 5, it used to work fine with the CD isos... Is it only CD isos allowed? Or not even CDs? Hello I've installed a new mailserver with CentOS 6.0 x86_64. For the reporting I need logcheck. Booting CentOS 6 in VirtualBox on Ubuntu

I trying to try out CentOS 6 in an Oracle VirtualBox running on Ubuntu. Has anyone been able to get this configuration working? When I try to boot the "Live" ISO it starts to do the countdown but when it reaches zero it gets stuck - nothing else happens. No error messages and since the install never really gets going, no logs. I've checked the mailing list archive back a few months, but I've not seen anything related. Cheers, Cliff

running X as root in centos 6

When I run X as root in centos 6 I get a nice little message that "your currently trying to run as root super user" and are you sure you want to with a checkbox. I do this for a reason as a post install step, then the system reboots and it never happens again... I am trying to find how to set this checkbox which says "never ask me again" and move on... I was trying to find it in gconf-editor but have not found it. Does anyone know where it is? THanks, Jerry

missing /dev/dsp

Hey guys, If I needed to get /dev/dsp back on centos 6, how would I go about doing that. Note, I've already uninstalled pulseaudio. I've also edited /etc/modprobe.d/dist-oss.conf and uncommented: /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-pcm && /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss && /sbin/modprobe snd-seq-device && /sbin/modprobe snd-seq-oss But I'm getting: FATAL: Module snd_pcm_oss not found. Suggestions? -- Head Grunt
