Cannot remove freshly created logical volumes

Hi, I've got a strange situation where I cannot remove logical volumes even right after they have been created: [root@centos6 ~]# lvcreate -n c6minimal -L+5G vg_nexus Logical volume "c6minimal" created [root@centos6 ~]# lvremove /dev/vg_nexus/c6minimal Can't remove open logical volume "c6minimal" [root@centos6 ~]# vgck vg_nexus [root@centos6 ~]# dmsetup info -c vg_nexus-c6minimal Name Maj Min Stat Open Targ Event UUID vg_nexus-c6minimal 253 23 L--w 0 1 0 LVM-rIIS0StztO1tPspxCxiKWJgcmjiufxvXC343e8jObzXGRHbdtvHaHWfh17ZSukm3 I've even gone to runlevel 1 but still LVM claims that the device is open despite dmsetup saying that is not the case. vgck doesn't show anything suspicious either. Any ideas how I could debug this further? Regards, Dennis

No debuginfo for Centos 6?

Hi, I'm trying to use oprofile to debug a problem with idle virtual machines eating 10% cpu but apparently the debuginfo packages for Centos 6 do not exist and so I cannot get any useful information from the kernel. Is there some way to at least get the kernel-debuginfo from somewhere? Regards, Dennis

RedHat to CentOS packages

Dear all, We're trying to use Nessus to monitor our system and we're having a hard time mapping the package versions from RedHat to CentOS in order to be able to report against CVE (vulnerability reports). After some research, we think that the mapping is as follows (using HTTPD as the example): CentOS httd-2.2.3-43.el5.centos.3 is equivalent to RedHat httpd-2.2.3-43.el5_5.3 So, it looks like CentOS replaces "_$MINOR_RELEASE" (in this case "_5") with ".centos" . Is this a fair assumption or are there other rules we are missing? Is this documented anywhere? Thanks Gabriel Tabares

Iptables - flooding console

Hi, We are trying to track some specific rules using LOG as target. Everything is working well but the problem is that iptables is flooding the console with LOG messages. We tried --log level 4 on iptables rules but it didn't work. We fixed the problem changing KLOGD_OPTIONS value in /etc/sysconfig/syslog to: KLOG_OPTIONS="-c 4" Is it the best option or we are missing something? Thanks in advance

high performance open source DHCP solution?

The free DHCP solution, ISC, seems to be having scaling issues (i.e. handling only about 200 DHCPDISCOVER and 20 DHCPRENEW requests), and I was wondering if anyone had any open source suggestions of solutions that could scale much better? (Ideally, I could find a free version of a solution like Nominum, but I know that's asking for much.) Anyone have any suggestions? -- Also on LinkedIn? My problem was 'cmdline' (worked fine with CentOS 5 though)... I switched to 'text' and it works now (with the DVD isos). JD

Intel HD graphics & CentOS 6: Error inserting i915

I installed CentOS 6 to Acer 7750 laptop, which has Intel Sandybridge CPU ( i5-2410M) with integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000. By default X won't use intel driver for graphics, but vesa instead, which limits the resolution to 1024x768. I tried to force the use of intel driver by writing a xorg.cof file, but then X doesn't start at all. I updated libdrm and xorg-x11-drv-intel from elrepo. This intel driver 2.15 is newer than in Fedora 15 Live CD, and with it the graphics work properly. The problem seems to be related with i915 kernel module: (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" FATAL: Error inserting i915 (/lib/modules/2.6.32-71.29.1.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko): No such device (EE) No devices detected. I've tried kernels from CentOS Base repo, and CentOS-Plus repo too, no difference. I found a similar old bugzilla entry: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=495524 Somewhere (don't find the source any more) I saw that i915 would need intel_agp module, and that would be the problem. This goes a little bit beyond my knowledge level. Maybe this has been fixed somewhere about a year ago: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/120293/ But is this patch something that is still missing from latest CentOS kernels? If someone has a solution for this, please advice. Regards, Timo

Hello all, This is the laptop I own: HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Spec: Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD, VGA ATI Radeon HD 6490M You can also check the spec here: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-dv6t-dv6tqe-Laptop/dp/B00506B7DS/ref=sr_1… I am going to install CentOS 6 to it but I want to make sure that which drivers will CentOS 6 support: Ethernet, Wifi, sound and especially VGA ATI Radeon HD 6490M.
