Actual Solution: You don't have to change anything on these laptops. But it is a good tip that when installing from external cd/dvdrom, if it first does not work, change usb port and try again. I changed back the BIOS to AHCI. I was previously plugged into the top left USB port I.e. the one on the left hand side closes to the monitor or back side. When lenovo's external CDROM/DVD is plugged into this port, I am unable to install linux in general or other OS's. Once I plug it into any of the other USB ports bottom left or right, it works perfectly. No wonder I haven't found any problem posts regarding x220 and CentOS/RHEL. Thanks for all your time supporting me. Fantastic responses on this mailing list. Where do I find a gnumeric rpm? I must not have enough repos listed. (I recently had to rebuild my system pretty much from scratch. :( )

persistent custom lines in /etc/hosts?

Hello there, I've edited /etc/hosts to add few custom IP/hostnames couples. After each reboot, I have to add them again. I've then added /etc/sysconfig/network/hosts, but it seems to ignore it or at least ignore 127.0.0.1 assignments I'm doing in it. Is there a mechanism I'm not aware of, or doing things wrong to make my custom IP/hostnames assignments permanent after network services restart? Regards, -- wwp

CentOS 6: ethernet "ifconfig up" failure

On my CentOS 6 partition of my laptop: First note that for this test, NetworkManager is not running because I did: chkconfig --del NetworkManager and then rebooted. Here is my ifcfg-eth0: DEVICE="eth0" NM_CONTROLLED="no" ONBOOT=no HWADDR=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx TYPE=Ethernet BOOTPROTO=none IPADDR=192.168.2.5 PREFIX=24 GATEWAY=192.168.2.1 DNS1=192.168.2.1 DNS2=192.168.2.1 DEFROUTE=yes IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=yes IPV6INIT=no NAME="System eth0" UUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx I reboot to level3, do startx (to KDE 4) then do: # ifconfig eth0 up # ping 192.168.9.1 connect: Network is unreachable If I edit ifcfg-eth0 to set ONBOOT=yes and reboot, I get a proper connection. So why is "ifconfig eth0 up" not connecting? Thanks for your help. Mike.

KVM on CentOS 6

Today I suddenly have two VMs that have read only file systems. The host is CentOS 6, as are the two VMs with this problem. The first symptom was on a new VM I installed ISPConfig onto. I got through the entire process with only a dependency issue between php-pecl_apc and php-accelerator. After completing the installation I noticed some funny things, but I assumed it might be the addition of quotas and remounting with quotas on. so I didn't think much of it and rebooted the VM. It failed to reboot because the file system should not be switched to read-write. Since it was a new VM and installing ISPConfig was an experiment, I just wiped it with the intention of starting over. While I was creating another clone of a CentOS 6 image on the host, I looked into one of the other VMs running on that host, which has been up and running for 47 days. Same problem, without rebooting. Now that I am looking at the output from the mount command I wonder where all those named related mounts came from. Could it be webmin. Both VMs have webmin installed. Mostly to allow be to configure bind, since system-config-bind is no more. Anybody have any idea what happened, or better yet, any ideas on how to fix this? Emmett

XORG and LCD Projector

dear guys, I have a problem between my CentOS 5.5 (on Axioo notebook) and LCD Projector. When I connect my notebook to LCD Projector, it can detect my notebook. But when I press Fn + F7 to activate dual monitor between my notebook and LCD Projector it goes to blank screen. FYI, the LCD Projector is NEC but I don't know the series. I've tried to change display using dual head monitor but it has no effects. Centos NFS-Utils

Just wondering, We have been using RHEL 6.1 for a while and its NFS-utils support the fsc option for caching. Will Centos 5.6(or .7) ever support this feature? -- --- Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.--

Postfix Question - CentOS 6

I'm trying to figure out if this is a bug... I'm running Postfix with Dovecot Authentication and have Amavisd-new as the front end. I fought with the install and in particular being able to send mail.... Auth failed. Hours of looking through all the config files yielded nothing... so I started Googling about. I finally found a comment at the bottom of a blog to check permissions on: /var/spool/postfix/private/auth It seems this must be owned by postfix but it was owned by root. So, can somebody check to see if this is there in a CentOS 6 Postfix install where Amavis is not installed? And if so, what are the default permissions? Thanks, John Hinton

I guess the reason I am doing it, is as I love the way CentOS works, I.e. the stability and performance. I am currently running it on a ThinkPad Edge 11 and all seems to work great. Just looks like the e1000e NIC driver is not working with the kernel in 6.0. I have also tried this with RHEL 6.1 but that also gets me stuck at the booting of the x220. I have tried to understand how the "load driver disk" works with CentOS and RHEL based systems, but I am failing to get it working. I have got my hands on the e1000e driver and patched the initrd but still no go. That's why I wanted to check if anyone else has got this working :) Anyone else? Conga problems

Hi all, I've spent the past little while attempting to setup Conga on a two node CentOS 6 cluster. While I do have the cluster up and running, I'm running into problems attempting to start services through luci on either node. A little background information: -Both nodes have dual NICs, one interface on each node will be used for the WAN, the other is a private gigabit crossover link between the nodes. -Both nodes are in /etc/hosts -The nodes are up to date, and both are running x86_64 -SELinux and iptables have both been disabled -To get the cluster running, luci, ricci, and their dependencies were installed, and 'service start ricci', then 'service start luci' where issued. ricci created certs when first run. The problem is: I've successfully created an IP resource through luci, but when attempting to start it through 'Services', it fails to start and I get the following error in /var/log/luci/luci.log: 07:32:33,648 INFO [luci.controllers.cluster] User "root" started service "ip failover" in cluster "MailCluster" 07:32:33,654 ERROR [luci.lib.ricci_communicator] Unable to establish an SSL connection to mail01.mydomain.com:11111: _ssl.c:480: error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/luci/lib/ricci_communicator.py", line 56, in __init__ self.ss.connect((self.__hostname, self.__port)) File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/ssl.py", line 309, in connect self.do_handshake() File "/usr/lib64/python2.6/ssl.py", line 293, in do_handshake self._sslobj.do_handshake() SSLError: [Errno 1] _ssl.c:480: error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol When I connect to port 11111 using openssl, I receive 'Clients_SSL_certificate_required' and the connection closes.
