javaWS under firefox on CentOS 5.6 fails to launch sound

Hi List, Before I spend hours chasing this - my initial google search seems to indicate that javaWS and JNLP apps with sound do not work on CentOS systems. The developer's website says they support :- *Linux* *Supported OS’s and recommended versions of Java* * Linux o openSUSE 11 (64 bit with 64 bit JVM) o Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit with 64 bit JVM) * Pentium III 1 GHz processor * Sun Java 1.5.0_17 or Sun Java 1.6.0_12 or greater is recommended I have Oracle's java v1.6.0_26 installed - the java app opens up and appears to be functioning fine, however the wizard for setting up the sound, even though it recognizes my sound card fails to actually play any sound. Running latest 5.7 [rkampen@robsws ~]$ uname -a Linux robsws.ndgonline.net 2.6.18-238.19.1.el5.centos.plus #1 SMP Mon Jul 18 10:05:09 EDT 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux [rkampen@robsws ~]$ rpm -qa |grep firefox firefox-3.6.18-1.el5.centos.x86_64 Sound from within other browser based apps (flash etc) work just fine. Anyone got a javaWS with sound application working on CentOS? TIA - Rob

Depsolving errors whilst upgrading Centos 5.6 -> 5.7

I have a dedicated server from 1&1 (http://1and1.co.uk/). A 'yum list updates' today showed me that the 5.7 update was available (it's probably been there for a while, I don't check that often). centos product specification

The page http://www.centos.org/product.html has product specifications for all centos releases except for centos6. Is there a reason why or did the site maintainers just forget about it.

centos-release 5.7 srpm where?

Hi, Is the centos-release srpm for 5.7 available anywhere. I have looked at several mirrors but no srpms are to be found. I realize everyone is busy but it would be nice to have at least the srpms that were specific to the centos project with the release. Just wanted to thank everyone for helping me get my new machine up and running. I thought I had bought a boat anchor. Not sure what's up with my DVD drive on my 5.7 machine but I will be phasing/retiring it out over the next few days. Again thanks for your help and most of all your patience. Eddie

Yum segmentation fault updating from 5.6 to 5.7

I'm trying to update my CentOS 5.6 boxes to 5.7, and on every single one of them yum is failing with a segmentation fault: the error happens when yum is checking the 'base' repository. Apart from being at CentOS 5.6 and all having this problem, the boxes have very few in common: - 2 physical machine running 5.6 32-bit, one in my office, the other in a datacenter - 1 physical machine running 5.6 64-bit in another datacenter - 2 KVM VPS running 5.6 32-bit in a third datacenter - 1 Xen VPS running 5.6 64-bit in a fourth datacenter There was a thread on the forum some months ago which mentioned this same problem, but the original poster didn't find a solution (or if he did, he didn't share it with the forum). Any suggestion is appreciated, I cannot reinstall those boxes with 6.0 for at least 4/5 months.
