OKI B411 printer

On a Centos-5.7 system, this printer works fine using a parallel cable but fails using the USB interface; the following appears on the CUPS page when I try to print a page: Unable to open device "hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_6bc_268_AK11044671_if0_printer_no serial": Permission denied" Any suggestions? On a Fedora 14 system, the USB interface works, so it's not the printer. I've also tried another USB jack. Bob T.

Broadcom Wifi Problem

I have a Broadcom 802.11b/g hardware on my dual-boot laptop. Note first that in the WinXP partition, the wifi makes DHCP connections to my router with no problem. Since this was not working in my new CentOS 6 partition, and remembering that there was a driver problem with the old Fedora partition it replaced, I followed instructions founs at: http://repecka.net/en/2011/04/19/install-broadcom-bcm4311-802-11bg-wlan- drivers-on-centos/ and http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt modifying for that fact that I use wlan0 rather than eth1. The wifi is now dead-in-the-water. The wlan light now remains red, and neither ifconfig nor iwconfig show any sign of wlan0 (contra to the situation before I installed the new driver). It still works in the WinXP partition. Suggestions for my next step in fixing this would be most welcome. Thank, Mike.

missing package openmotif in i386

I can only find openmotif22 in centos 5 i386. x86_64 has a openmotif. A mistake I assume? Christian.

Broadcom Failure: Chg CentOS 6.0 to 5.7

After following various advice I received on other threads to get the Broadcom wlan0 on my laptop to work I have still not succeeded. Therefore I am changing from CentOS 6.0 to 5.7 . I think that I'll first try the fix at: http://elrepo.org/tiki/wl-kmod on 5.7 . Anyone have a reason why I should proceed differently? Thanks, Mike.

This is probably "overkill", but_it_just_works :-) Adobe Reader is only a "reader" as I assumed it would be. Some PDF readers can also fill in forms, do editing, etc., however not Adobe Reader. Another solution is to use a free online service, such as http://www.pdfescape.com/ and upload the file, fill in the form and/or edit the file, and then download it again. OK, So how can we help getting CentOS 6.1 released? This is a "Community" project. I'm not a programmer, IT person but I do ask a lot of help from this list. What do we need to do or how can the 'average person' help? Can you send us some files to test? What? I'd like to help but don't know how. Eddie

replace multiple string

Hi I would like to use a bash script that searches files and subdirectories name in a directory /var/ww/html/web for a specific string, and when it finds the search string, replaces the string (old1) with new string (new1), and so on old2 with new2 ....oldn with newn. replace_string.sh #!/bin/bash for db in $(find /var/www/html/web -name * -exec) do sed -e "s/old1/new1/" \ sed -e "s/old2/new2/" \ ... sed -e "s/oldn/newn/" $db done Any recommendation..
