squid cache question

Hi Friends, Same question has been asked on the Squid mailing list but so far no reply on the mailing list so posting it here also. We are trying to cache some files from apple.com like .dmg, .pkg, .ipa etc.. so that local clients can fetch the data from the cache. The problem we are facing is that we have download restrictions for every client to 25 MB during work hours except for a particular client. Now when this exception client downloads the files from apple.com it gets downloaded from the site and gets stored in the cache but as the download restrictions are for 25MB the files which are even in cache with size more than 25MB are not accessed by the other clients, if we remove download restriction for that client then the software gets downloaded. Is there any way we can allow any client to access objects/files in cache without removing the download restriction. We are using Squid 2.6 on Centos 5 64-bit. Dovecot & pam issues

I'm replacing my old Fedora 7 mail server with a new one running CentOS6.3. The old server uses plain-text logins and password for pop3 and IMAP. I'm unable to get dovecot to authenticate. It's failing the password check. Trying 192.168.1.50... Connected to orion (192.168.1.50). Escape character is '^]'. +OK orion.crucis.net Dovecot ready. user joe +OK pass abcdefg -ERR Authentication failed. quit +OK Logging out Connection closed by foreign host. However, another user on the same system works! Trying 192.168.1.50... Connected to orion (192.168.1.50). I'm looping through eth0 in both of the above. The results are the same if I telnet from 192.168.1.30. User bob was the one I created on the initial CentOS install, joe was added later. Removing/disabling console-kit-daemon

I was trying to optimize a minimum memory VM and realized that this process was taking up over 560M of virt memory. On googling, it seems to be a known issue and doesn't seem to be needed except for graphical desktop. Although virt memory isn't actual memory usage, the daemon is still taking up almost 4MB of limited memory, which on a VM with only 384MB feels relatively significant to me. Earlier in May, there was also a mailing list thread that indicates removing console-kit-daemon requires getting rid of hal as well. Is it safe to remove both console-kit and hal for headless console-only web application VMs that also needs mdadm?

lost udp packets

I have a CentOS release 5.8 that has snmp traps being sent to it. I've been trying to forward the snmp traps to another system. I've tried forwarding with snmpd/snmptrapd, iptables, and some forwarding programs. I can see snmp traps getting delivered to the system with tcpdump and wireshark, but no matter what app I run, the traps do not appear to be reaching the application or port 162. It seems like the packets are possibly being dropped right away. iptables is wide open: # iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination If I run the apps I can see port 162 open and closed depending on what I have running, so I'm sure there's not a specific app running already on that port. Anyone have any ideas on what could be happening to these packets and why they might not be reaching port 162 on this host? Thanks, James

PHP version dilemma

I am running Centos 5.8; at least uname -rmi gives me centos-release-5-8.el5.centos A CMS package is telling me that I need PHP 5.2x, however yum update says that I am fully up to date.
