RAIDZONE - offtopic

Hi, folks, I'm busy getting ready to surplus an old RAIDZONE - the model is listed as "RDZEXT". Has anyone dealt with them? I've just taken care of the 15 drives in it, but I need to know if there's an *internal* drive that I have to take the box apart to get at. mark

LVM2 Thin Provisioning: 6.3 vs 6.4 (lvm2, device-mapper-persistent-data, et al)

I've been running into some problems with LVM thin provisioning in CentOS 6.3. Some of these I have reported to RH Bugzilla (e.g. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=883629) The upshot seems to be that in RHEL 6.3 the features are "preview" but in 6.4 they are "full featured/robust" (hopefully) and many of the bugs are fixed. This raises the following questions: 1) When will either CentOS 6.4 be available, OR selected features (e.g. thin provisioning fixes) of RHEL 6.4 be available in CentOS 6.3? 2) Is there some way that I can help with the above? 3) Lastly, should I also file duplicate CentOS Bug Tracker (http://bugs.centos.org/view_all_bug_page.php) tickets on these items? first boot hung

I just rebooted after the install. The bar at the progress bar at the bottom of the screen is stuck. There is a white, blue, and orange bar and Centos 6.3 is in orange. I did press <alt-d> to watch the startup, and everything seemed to have been progressing OK. Then the bar came back and nothing. I tried <alt-d> again and nothing. So I switched terminals, <alt-F3> and got a login, and am now logged in as root. Nothing is being reported being added to /var/log/messages. Terminals F2-F6 are present; F7 is a blank screeen. hmmmm. I see something intersting in /var/log/Xorg.5.log it says something like: (EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0) (II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa (--) using VT number 7 (EE) The PCI device has a kernel module claiming it, (EE) this driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded. (EE) Try appending "nomodest" to your boot options (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa (EE) No devices detected. Fatal server error: no screens found ... Now what?

Adding Update repository at install time

This is easy with Fedora, as the various 'common' repos are listed and all I have to do is change the URL.... Anyway, I am doing a netinstall of Centos 6.3 i386 from my local repo. I also have the updates repo. How can I add the updates repo so that I get it up to snuff right away (like I have been doing with Fedora for quite some time)? thanks.

Setting up NTP server

Greetings, Please treat this post with kid gloves as I am bit rusty of the late on centos and last NTP server that I worked on was during centos 5.1 days. I am going to have to install centos 6.3 in coming week in all windows environment. This box will be the tunning glpi and ocs-inventory. I am planning to have two NICs: one facing the raw internet and other on a Private LAN. I want this box (as NTP Client) to get time through NTP from raw internet using ADSL. I want this box to be the primary NTP server for the private LAN. none of the packet should traverse pass from LAN to Internet or vice versa. IOW, no routing should be there. If it work perhaps at a future date, may be an instance of squid proxy. I dont mind all the ports being open for the Private LAN or is that a bad idea? I am not sure if there is a DNS in this whole scenario And yes all the windows boxens (few w2k3, XP) in the LAN would have to synchronise time with this centos bo Is it possible? If so, how would typical config files for eth0, eth2, firewall(s) look like? -- Regards, Rajagopal

Long time away for Centos installs, need some info

I have not touched my Centos systems for over a year; it is time to get current to do some new, interesting things. So of course, 6.3, but which install? I run a local repo that I rsync from a mirror near me. So I believe I can use the Netinstall iso, but which one? How do I determine if I have a i386 or x86_64 processor? If x86_64 how do I determine if I use EFI or not?

iptables 1.4 and kernel 2.6 CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE

Hi, I have a VPS running Centos 6.2 and trying to run this iptables rule: [root@myserver ~]# iptables -A INPUT -i venet0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables: No chain/target/match by that name. Narrowing down the issue it seems there is no IP_CONNTRACK support but now it's called NF_CONNTRACK. However following this link: http://www.spinics.net/lists/netfilter/msg33535.html I have found that I don't have CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE support. Unfortunately this virtuozzo VPS is not using modules: [root@vrtl13369 ~]# lsmod Module Size Used by How can I enable that CONFIG_IP_NF_MATCH_STATE support in my kernel? I prefer to stick to the kernels provided by the repos and not recompile my own kernel. Regards, Miguel
