I was looking for the old Vispan stuff, and it seems to have disappeared from the web. Now I realize it was old, but it did provide some details that I liked on my old servers. I've got mailscanner-mrtg running, but that only provides a view of what mailscanner sees. Does anyone know of a good replacement for vispan that might give complete stats on what the mail server is doing instead of just what MailScanner is doing? thanks steve campbell

Ways To Practice Breaking My System?

Hi All I've been looking into some ways to break a CentOS system so I can perform some simulated disaster recovery and get some hands-on practice with rescue mode and other system recovery tools. I'm thinking to start off with things like corrupting the password file with random characters, breaking grub.conf. I've been doing some research on the net, but would welcome any input from list members. Does anybody have any creative suggestions for ways to break the CentOS boot process? CentOS 6.2 install problem squid winbind

In the install process, I checked squid and winbind. Squid access to winbind fails because squid was not added to the wbpriv group. I suspect that winbind is being installed after squid. I manually added squid to wbpriv in group and gshadow to allow access. Heads up on major Firefox update incoming

As a heads up since this might have a large effect on people.... The upstream vendor has rebased form firefox 3.6 onto firefox 10... This effects both centos5 and centos6. I'm not sure reading this whether this is the extended update support version of if they intend to follow Mozilla's new release process....guess we'll find out when firefox 11 gets released... Yum-cron with CentOS 5.7

Hi all, I use yum-cron with my new CentOS 6-installs and rather like it. So much in fact, that I tried getting it to work in the older CentOS 5-installs I also have scattered at the department. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for some reason. I found this; <<https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22483>>, where it's suggested one use yum-updatesd instead. Is this still true? partitioning with fdisk

CentOS-6.2 I created a new VirtIO disk for one of my virtual machines. Previous experience has taught me that I need to partition it before attempting to add the new storage to the physical volume set of the intended guest. Up to now I have simply accepted the defaults given by fdisk after telling it that I want a new partition. The defaults always exclude the first 2048 sectors. Disk /dev/vg_vhost01/lv_vm_inet09.harte-lyne.ca_01: 33.6 GB, 33554432000 bytes 109 heads, 61 sectors/track, 9856 cylinders, total 65536000 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x2b33a3c9 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/vg_vhost01/lv_vm_inet09.harte-lyne.ca_01p1 2048 65535999 32766976 83 Linux Why? Is this space reserved for a boot partition? firefox and IronPort

A couple of weeks ago, I got an autogenerated email from the mail folks here, telling me they'd quarantined what they thought was spam. The last time I got one of these was a month or month and a half ago, and I had no problem. This time, however, I get a 500 error. When I pulled up firefox's error console, and clicked on the link, I got <servername elided>: server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555 I'm told they're running Cisco's IronPort. It appears the patch came out a year and a half or so ago. However, I also found a post where someone, apparently running on Windows, couldn't get to a site they needed to, either with IE 9 or FF10.somethingorother, until they downgraded. The support folks report they can get there, from Windows boxes. I've tried Mozilla's workarounds, in about:config, but no joy. My ff is up to date, including both patches from last week, and as those were critical, I'm very loathe to downgrade. a) Is anyone else seeing this? b) Any thoughts on whether it's an IronPort issue, or whether it might be a bug (new or reintroduced) browser problem? mark

problems installing java .sh install script (CentOS 6.2)

I am installing a java program (.sh file), and I get this error. Java **************************** tar: Skipping to next header tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors Installing java sed: can't read jre-install.sh: No such file or directory mv: cannot stat `jre1.6.0_13': No such file or directory chmod: cannot access `jre/bin/java': No such file or directory **************************** Everything jre-* is yum installed, and "/usr/sbin/alternatives --config java" is also set **************************** *+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java 2 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java **************************** Any suggestions? Distro is CentOS 6.2 (2.6.32-220.4.1.el6.x86_64).

hi Guys, We've been trying to get something like this setup for long time, now thanks to Khusro Jaleel's efforts its online! The CentOS Promo request system is available at http://promo.centos.org/ And we have some TShirts there - three different designs, six different colours and a few options on sizes for each type. Get them quick! The TShirts are already paid for by sponsors, all you need to do is cover shipping. And I'll pack them up, put them in a bag, send them on their way via Royal Mail. It would be really nice if you could takes some 'action shots' when you get these TShirts and send them in, we'd love to get these up on the website. And send in a story as well, about you, about what you do with Linux and how CentOS fits in. But above all else, make it about yourself. If you or your company want to sponsor some more TShirts ( we need lots ) or other stuff, like Stickers, usb keys, hats etc, please get in touch. I realise some of the postal costs are high for non EU destinations, I'm trying to workout something so we can get some stuff over to the US, SouthAmerica and the far east directly in bulk and have them posted around locally.
