Boot.log Issue

I everybody... i need help to enable boot.log at CentOS 5... i have a old server running for a few months, and sometimes when system boots up, a can see FAIL status, but the screen scrools fast and i cant determine which service can not boot up properly... Best Regards Cleiton Cipriani

Can't access forums

problems with bind update of 9.8.2.0.10

Everyone, I have two x86_64 servers with CentOS 6.3 that seem to have some difficulty with the last version of bind : 32:bind-9.8.2-0.10.rc1.el6_3.2.x86_64 When I run htop I am getting a CPU usage of 70 to 80% all of the time. I am not seeing problems identified in the log files on either machine. This may have been present before the update of 9.8.2.0, but I certainly did not notice it. Has anyone else had this problem. Any solutions?? Greg Ennis

Eth1 problem on CentOS-6.3

I am trying to transport a dd image between to hosts over a cross linked gigabit connection. Both hosts have an eth1 configured to a non routable ip addr on a shared network. No other devices exist on this link. When transferring via sftp I received a stall warning. Strange device labeling in 6.3

I have just installed 6.3 on a machine that was previously running 5.8. Under 5.8 eth0 was eth0. Now with 6.3 /sbin/ifconfig gives me lo, wlan0 and p4p1 (instead of eth0). I would like to make the ethernet a static IP as I intend to for this to be machine used on my LAN only. However, when I do /usr/sbin/setup -> Network Configuration the device is not listed. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it. Or if not how I can set a static and persistent IP address for the ethernet? Thanks, Richard

Missing dependency in C6 ISO

Greetings, I had downloaded c6 64 bits ISO, selected all packages to be installed. One dependency warning relating to Emacs appeared. I chose to continue. Unfortunately I was multitasking and did not note down the package name Twice this issue appeared -- first time around aborted install due to power cut. Did anybody else face this situation? Also is there a better way with just DVDs and not LAN to select all package install. (no Kickstart, NFS server etc.) I have the ISO images though. /ducks I know no sysadmin installs everything on a centos box... But then it is just a single desktop to get legroom in a M$ shop / Home //ducks -- Regards, Rajagopal

How protect bash history file, do audit alike in server

hello, I want to protect the history file from deleted for all users except user 'root' can do it, is that possible? For my server, many users can log in with root from remote through ssh, so I can not trace which guy do wrong things. So I decide to create new account for every users and let them use 'sudo' then I can trace which guy typed which command and what he did. However, even if I create new account for every user, they also can delete the history of them self easily. How should I do. I believe everyone encountered such things normally. I think there is a gracefully solution for it as I am not experience on server manage. So any suggestions for how to trace user like to write down which user did as an audit trail and let it can not deletable exclude root user? Thanks! -- Best Regards, Su Heng

Repo data lagging behind

Hello, I just noticed there's a security update for openldap on C6 that's a few days old. However my box is not receiving the update. I've checked both ftp://ftp.plusline.de and ftp://ftp.nluug.nl. Both have the updates in the Packages directory, which has a mod time of 2012-08-08. However, the corresponding repodata directories on both mirrors have a mod time of 2012-08-06. Any reason why the repo data hasn't been updated? Or are those mirrors not syncing correctly for some reason? Regards, Leonard. -- mount -t life -o ro /dev/dna /genetic/research

cups printing to a remote network

Everyone, I have an need to be able to print to an HP1320 that is usb connected to a Fedora 17 desktop on a remote network from a Centos 5.8 cups print server on an internal network. The desktop is in a remote network that belongs to to a different client than the one owning the cups print server. The F17 usb HP1320 connection works fine, and I can also get the F17 system to poll the cups print server in order to print to any of the printers on the internal network. So far I have not been able to figure out a way to print to the remote HP1320 from inside the internal network. I am about ready to ask the remote client to provide a static ip address that we can use that to be able to connect separately from them. It just seems there ought to be a way to do this. I am unable to poll the desktop unit on the remote network from the internal network because of firewall restrictions on the remote network. Any ideas ???? Greg Ennis
