Tiff image handling like MODI

Greetings, I have been searching for some application with functionalities like MODI (Microsoft office Document Imaging) Many I have checked does not cut it or not cross platform. Evince just allows multipage viewing, not extraction of individual pages in to another file. GUI is a necessity. I am aware of tifflib, imagemagick, but but not sure about a decent GUI wrappers for them. The file numbers are huge. I have tried many things for almost a fortnight or so to even remember all those names. None of them "cuts it" per se. I _know_ this query is not Centos Specific, but I also know that I can get a viable answer here along with a rap in the knuckle. Any pointers? TIA -- Regards, Rajagopal

I am the tech guy for a local library. We have a network containing several diskless workstations. The hardware are these P4 boxes: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SAMBA845V-24-4-R&cat=SYS (We have inserted additional memory, bringing most of the machines up to 1.25Gig of memory, and two up to 2Gig of memory.) These little machines have integrated Intel video chips on their motherboards and have both VGA and DVI connectors: (II) I810(0): VESA VBE OEM Vendor: Intel Corporation (II) I810(0): VESA VBE OEM Product: Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics Controller (II) I810(0): VESA VBE OEM Product Rev: Hardware Version 0.0 (II) I810(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) 845G (--) I810(0): Chipset: "845G" And the i810 driver seems to be happy to talk to these chips. I am using the stock (distro supplied) RPM: xorg-x11-drv-i810-1.6.5-9.40.el5 The machines are running pretty much stock CentOS 5.8 (I am slightly behind on some updates). These machine boot off the network and then mount their root (/), /usr, and /home file systems via NFS from the server and function otherwise as normal workstations. And they work great with 4:3 monitors. Recently, because of new cataloging and circulation software which seems to have been designed by (open source) developers who probably have new widescreen monitors on their machines, we have put widescreen (16:9) monitors on three of the machines (various menus and toolbars don't fit on a 4:3 monitor, even at 1280x1024 [19-20" monitor]). But we are having some problems getting the proper aspect ratio (or even a display at all) on two of the three. First of all, using the VGA connection, the X server *refuses* to use any Modeline that is not a 4:3 aspect ratio. It seems that the X server presumes that *all* VGA connected monitors are 4:3. (All three of the new wide screen monitors do have 15-pin VGA connections, so this 'presumption' is obviously false, esp. since the monitors using DDC while connection via VGA are suggesting 16:9 mode lines.) I got *one* of the machines to correctly use a 16:9 aspect ratio Modeline (1600x900) using the DVI connection. The other two don't work. One won't display anything (claims that the video is missing or wrong). And the other just uses something like 640x480. Both monitors work just fine on DVI in console display mode (bare kernel VGA), so the video card is seeing the monitor and sending it a signal at that level. I have tried everything I can think of. automatic repartitioning

Hello all. Does anyone have any suggestions for making centos cloud images that can automatically repartition the root device to resize the filesystem? All the Ubuntu UEC images do this, so using the same image, you can launch cloud instances of a variety of flavors and the VM instance will repartition the root disk and resize the fs. The Ubuntu images utilize scripts in the initramfs dpkg that handle this. Just curious if anyone has been able to replicate this functionality.

Greetings, We have been attempting to set up a centos ldap server and then tried to log in with a user account specified in our ldap environment on a centos workstation. As soon as we attempt any kind of login from the centos workstation, be it via gdm or su ldap_user, the slapd process on the ldap server goes to 100% cpu. Is this normal behaviour?

Detect if a drive is USB?

I'm updating a script to work with EL6 (previously worked on EL5) and am stumped, google fu is failing me. Part of the script is to detect USB drives and mount them. Previously, It worked something like isUsbDevice() { if [ -f /sys/block/$1/usb ] ; then // do stuff fi; } but I don't find the "usb" file/directory anywhere to be found any more on el6. I've tried the output of lsusb and lsusb -v but in no case have I been able to find anything there matching anything in /sys/block that matching anything in lsusb's output. Given an available drive (EG: /dev/sdk) how can I reliably tell it's interface type? (USB/SATA/PATA/SCSI ?)

placing x11 libraries in an alternate location

we have close to 50 servers. I would like to have X11 libraries (and devel). Instead of installing them one by one on all servers, I would like to have them in a central NFS location and have my app pick them up like that. Is it possible to do this with yum/rpm ? -- --- Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.--

I have googled this but I am not clear from what I have read if this is something we can stop altogether or should even worry about. Comments? postfix login problem

Dear Friend, I have postfix mail server. I open my mail server and put my username = jha and password= 123456 it is giving my error "*ERROR*Unknown user or password incorrect." and In a log it is showing -- Sep 20 13:03:22 neumann dovecot: imap-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<jha>, method=PLAIN, rip=10.112.1.2, lip=192.168.1.2, secured but When I put username = jha(a)XXX.ac.in so it is allow me to login in mail server . Why it is taking full Domain Name . I want like gmail and yahoo when we open it they just ask for username and password not full domain name. Please help me.. RHSA-2012:1288 libxml2 security update for centos6 skiped?

I saw libxml2 have a security update on https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2012-1288.html. But centos only update libxml2 for centos 5., it also affect centos6. Centos already update ppid(RHSA-2012:1269), looks like libxml(RHSA-2012:1288) skiped.... Any explanation?

How do boot a xen domu into run level 1

Hi, I have a C5.8 machine with several DomU's. I fubared the fstab on one of them and I need to get it into single user mode. Does anyone know how to do that? I tried adding single to the extras line in /etc/xen/machine_name but it still tries to start in level 3. To make things worse, the root partition is on LVM. Alternatively, does anyone know how to access the image from DomU? I tried to use kpartx but when I run VGscan, I do not get the lvm activated. NFS problem

We've been seeing what I gather is an old, traditional problem: kernel: lockd: server <ip address> not responding, timed out The things I've found, googling, mostly involve rebooting the NFS server, and I can't do that, it's a home directory server for a *bunch* of people, and this is only one person's workstation. Are there other solutions I haven't found yet? mark

Odd issue with XFS quotas reporting 8192.0EB in use

Hi All, I have this very odd issue where after a migration we have some users who have quotas showing 8192.0EB in use, when in reality on disk there is only a couple hundred megabytes. The host in question is a: * CentOS 6.3 host with mostly latest patches (except latest glibc patches) * running in SELinux Enforcing mode (Permissive doesn't seem to help) * all file systems are on Logical Volumes * all XFS file systems are mounted defaults,uquota,grpquota * have the following XFS packages installed - xfsprogs-3.1.1-7.el6.x86_64 - xfsdump-3.0.4-2.el6.x86_64 It's really odd because I can see no rhyme nor reason for these users to have this 8192.0EB allocation. It's also odd that is 8192 in the first place. Any ideas from anyone on how I might go about troubleshooting this? In some cases creating a 1 byte file owned by the user after the quota has been set worked. For some it was 10M, for others 100M file was needed. I'm at a total loss here and it's our primary file server so rebooting it would be a huge pain. -- James A. To address this problem, we are releasing another minimal install image for CentOS-6.3/x86_64. ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

Greetings, I have accounts on two Centos servers, A and B, each hosted on a remote VPS by a different provider/datacenter. Until yesterday night, I could connect without problems via SSH to both servers from my home Fedora 16 desktop. Yesterday I completed (fingers crossed) the switch to a different ADSL provider. From the moment I turned on the modem on the new ADSL line, I became unable to ssh into server A. All attempts abort with this message: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host I know that server A is still up and running, because the websites and email services it runs are still up. Server B is still reachable via ssh, no problem. The only difference between the two servers is that A runs Centos 4.something, while B runs Centos 6.1 I have already done some online search on this problem, but all the pages I have found discuss how to diagnose and fix it working on the server (*), which is exactly what I can't do right now... Any clues on what may have happened, and if it could be related in any way to differences (whatever they may be) between ADSL providers, instead of a bizarre coincidence? Of course, I can and will ask the VPS provider to reboot the machine, but I would also like to know your opinion on what exactly may have happened, and how to prevent it in the future (also to pass your suggestions to the provider).
