CentOS 5.7 eth0, eth1 and arpwatch flip flops

Dear all, Has anyone experienced this whilst running DRBD over eth1 between two CentOS 5.7 servers? eth1 is a private IP address, unroutable. eth0 is the public address. CentOS will reply sometimes once every 3 days or every 14mins~ saying "My public IP is on eth1" to arp requests when it's not, it's eth0. This freezes traffic and causes issues. We've looked at arp* /etc/sysctl.conf etc. and arptables, but wondered if anyone had a recipe? We have this already which didn't help as it happened Christmas Eve too as we kept eth1 up for a few days to test: # For the dual interface - 06.12.12 net.ipv4.conf.eth0.arp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.conf.eth0.arp_ignore = 1 net.ipv4.conf.eth1.arp_filter = 1 net.ipv4.conf.eth1.arp_ignore = 1 net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_filter = 1 eth0 and eth1 are on the same VLAN/broadcast domain, but eth1 is a 169.xx and eth0 is a routable public IP. We're having to shut eth1 down and bring it up for sync at night. Thanks, Gavin.

High Availability questions

I'm trying to set up a small cluster using the High Availability and High Availability Management groups. I'd like to run this on 3 different machines, one being a "management" machine and the other two being the actual cluster. It doesn't seem to want to cooperate. I can set the cluster nodes up just fine, working from the management server. As soon as I try adding an "IP address" to the cluster, everything goes south. I can no longer use luci on any of the three machines. I can start luci on any of the 3 servers, but the cluster doesn't show any more. If I try and recreate the cluster, it indicates the cluster already exists. I can't find anything in the logs other than a bunch of python errors similar to perl errors, and those don't really seem to be indicative of hard errors. I've got this scheme running successfully on 3 virtual machines on a single host, and that seems to work just fine. Real servers are beating me up. Any suggestions, please? steve campbell

rup on CentOS6

I just noticed an interesting behaviour of rup on CentOS5/6: run without any host args, it never prints results for CentOS6 machines. However, if a CentOS6 machine is queried directly, there is a result. It doesnt't matter whether the querying host runs CentOS5 or CentOS6. # rup |grep centos6host # rup centos6host centos6host up 12 days, 19:33, load average: 0.22 0.18 0.11 # With tcpdump, I can see that no rpc requests are issued to the host in the first case. Is there an explanation?

Openssh connection closes from time to time. why?

Hey there, I just replaced long lived Gentoo to a Centos 6.3 on 2 servers. Since the move I had troubles with ssh open sessions. I am connecting from a windows machine via putty and then all of a sudden it saying something about connection closing. The OpenSSH version is: openssh-server-5.3p1-81.el6.x86_64.rpm I tired to configure: tcp_keep_alive TCPKeepAlive yes ClientAliveInterval 240 ClientAliveCountMax 50 Each one of them or all together seems to not solve the problem. It's not iptables issue since it was stopped and disabled. If someone have an idea of what can be done or checked I will be happy to hear about it. For now I have created a custom OpenSSH-6.1p1 RPM just in case it will might help. Both server has the same issue while another Fedora machine runs by which doesn't have the same issues. They are both connected to the same switch and seems to be fine. Thanks, Eliezer

Wysiwyg html editor for note taking

I am looking for a wsyiwyg html editor for note taking as I build up a system to note what I am doing. I typically just use gedit, but this system's notes are getting complex, and using code tabs, lists, and the like would make it more enduring. I am looking at lonote on my F17 notebook, but I would like to do the note taking directly on the Centos system. Just basic html. Image inclusions if I do screen captures would be nice too.

I edit Internet Draft XML in gedit, the run the xml2rfc cruft to get my ID. This is just an 'experiment' of sorts. Also I am looking for what I will give my son to learn from; let the wysiwig cut some html, now study it. Though for various reasons, he may be stuck on Win7 for a while, so Bluefish is of real interest (just not wysiwig). I am still undecided what I will do. And in the end, I may drop it just to get all my work done and at least have that text file that has all that I really did.

creating centos rpm from deb with alien

I want to install GoldenDict on my fresh CentOS 6.3 installation. So far I've not found any GoldenDict rpm files created for CentOS. What about creating rpm from deb using alien? Would it be safe to attempt such install? I do not want to screw my new installation.
