i tried this(gedit /etc/crontab). it loads a file. the content of this file is different from what i have in crontab -e. why the difference ? [OT] how to specify dimensions a a Java Popup

How, if at all, does one specify the size of a Java Popup? setSize on the contents Component does not get the job done regardless of when applied. I keep getting the same small square, serveral pixels on an edge. Is this documented somewhere? I've been trying to use docs.oracle.com, but nothing I've found answers the question. I truly hate the poke it and see what it does method of finding out what something is supposed to do. the at command

I was trying to use the 'at' command. Does it not have "resolution" to the second? When I run it with 'at -f /tmp/tt.sh "01/21/2013 15:20:45" syntax error. Last token seen: 15:20 Garbled time How do I run a command in the future including "seconds". Thanks, Jerry

Having trouble updating glibc on Centos 6.3

rpm -q glibc gives me: glibc-2.12-1.80.el6_3.6.x86_64 However I need glibc-2.15 If I do yum update glibc I get: No packages marked for Update Any help would be greatly appreciated.

openscad available?

Does anyone know if there is a repo that has openscad for CentOS? rpmfind.net doesn't turn up anything. The openscad wiki page says, "As of 2013, prebuilt OpenSCAD packages are available on many recent Linux and BSD distributions, including Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, and NetBSD. Check your system's package manager for details." I though that maybe CentOS might have one too. I'll try building it from source if not, but I've seldom had success with that course of action. anyone else noticed webalizer (or dns throughput in general) to be a lot slower lately?

my nightly webalizer runs have gone from about 2 hours to over 8 hours. this change happened sometime after november. webalizer hasn't changed in years, but bind was updated in january, so i am thinking that is the likely culprit. has anyone else noticed a similar slowdown? i am going to dig through my logs to see if i can spot the day that things slowed down.

heads up on silent change in recent samba3x update

i guess that upstream doesn't consider the samba3x packages should be treated the same way as other packages, but i just wanted to warn folks that the recent samba3x update changed a default setting. if you rely on hostnames in a hosts allow/deny clause (and possibly elsewhere), things won't work until you set 'hostname lookups=yes'. given that it jumped from 3.5 to 3.6, there may be other changes as well.

Custom locale, LC_TYPE and urxvt

I have a custom locale in use on our system. Consequently, Xlib does not recognize the default environment setting for LC_TYPE. To get an urxvt window opened without encountering the locale error message I am therefore constrained to use some variant of the following: LC_TYPE=en_US.UTF-8 urxvt& I would like to set LC_TYPE to a different value than LANG. However, based on experiment it seems that the only locale setting in /etc/sysconfig/i18n that CentOS-6.3 responds to is LANG. I have looked at /etc/profile.d/lang.sh but my knowledge of terminal settings and system variables is insufficient to make much sense out of it. if [ -n "$LANG" ]; then saved_lang="$LANG" [ -f "$HOME/.i18n" ] && . "$HOME/.i18n" && sourced=1 LANG="$saved_lang" unset saved_lang else for langfile in /etc/sysconfig/i18n "$HOME/.i18n" ; do [ -f $langfile ] && . $langfile && sourced=1 done fi If I am not entirely mistaken, this code checks to see if $LANG is set and saves it. Presumably this is to preserve $LANG from being overridden by the contents of ~/.i18n but it does not even seem to check /etc/sysconfig/i18n in that case. One might infer from this treatment that this is because lang.sh expects that if $LANG is set then /etc/sysconfig/i18n has already been processed. Assuming that /etc/sysconfig/i18n is found then it processes the following statement: if [ "$sourced" = 1 ]; then [ -n "$LANG" ] && export LANG || unset LANG . . . [ -n "$LC_CTYPE" ] && export LC_CTYPE || unset LC_CTYPE . . . Checking in ~/.bashrc I see this: . . . # Source global definitions if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then . /etc/bashrc fi And checking /etc/bashrc I see this: . . . # Only display echos from profile.d scripts if we are no login shell # and interactive - otherwise just process them to set envvars for i in /etc/profile.d/*.sh; do if [ -r "$i" ]; then if [ "$PS1" ]; then . "$i" else . "$i" >/dev/null 2>&1 fi fi done unset i unset pathmunge fi However, when I look for the mate to that final 'fi' I find this: . . . if ! shopt -q login_shell ; then # We're not a login shell # Need to redefine pathmunge, it get's undefined at the end of /etc/profile pathmunge () . . . Evidently /etc/profile.d/lang.sh only gets processed by /etc/bashrc if I am NOT in a login shell. The question then is: when does /etc/profile.d/lang.sh get processed? Well, numerous places it seems: /etc/csh.login /etc/profile /etc/rc.d/init.d/rpcbind /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/K95firstboot /etc/rc.d/rc /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common Yet, despite all these calls to /etc/profile.d/lang.sh, whenever I open a new session in gnome-terminal LC_LANG is never set but $LANG is. If However, I do . /etc/profile.d/lang.sh in that window session, then LC_TYPE becomes set as I desire. Either something is setting LANG and ignoring LC_TYPE in /etc/sysconfig/i18n before lang.sh or something is unsetting everything other than $LANG after lang.sh is processed. Serial console

I am trying to get a CentOS 6.3 serial console to work with IPMI SOL. I think I have everything working but maybe the wrong baud rate on the getty: $ ipmitool -I lanplus -U root -H 10.0.0.14 sol activate Password: [SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help] �� 10.0.0.14 is the DRAC IP address of the CentOS 6.3 box. It accepts the password and connects me to the console but then when I type I get those funny characters. Somehow an agetty is already being run: root 46110 1 0 16:13 ttyS1 00:00:00 /sbin/agetty /dev/ttyS1 19200 vt100-nav Is udev starting this up for me somehow? It says 19200 when everything I have read says it should be 115200. How do I change this? Some docs say I should create my own /etc/init/serial-ttyS1.conf containing: # For IPMI serial console # ttyS1 - agetty # # This service maintains a agetty on ttyS1. stop on runlevel [S016] start on runlevel [23] respawn exec agetty -h -L -w /dev/ttyS1 115200 vt102 but when I do that I end up with two gettys, presumably fighting over the serial port, and the original is apparently holding onto it because I still can't connect and get a login prompt. # ps -ef |grep agetty root 46110 1 0 16:13 ttyS1 00:00:00 /sbin/agetty /dev/ttyS1 19200 vt100-nav root 46118 1 0 16:13 ? 00:00:00 agetty -h -L -w /dev/ttyS1 115200 vt102 What is the right way to set this up?
