[CEntOS] - problem with iptables

hi all, I have a problem with iptables on CentOS 6.2. I configured: chkconfig iptables on and the file /etc/sysconfig/iptables if you reboot the machine configurations are not loaded. iptables-L gives me the default configurations (not assigned) if I (a machine booted): service iptables start then then it works. how can I fix? thanks in advance

Wireless connection issue - athero 9300 pci wireless card

Hi all, I am new to CentOS. I built myself a desktop with an additional PCI wireless card 'TP-LInk WPN3800', which I have checked needs an ath9k driver. * **04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9300 Wireless LAN adaptor* Following the wireless connection tutorial on CentOS wiki, I have both kernel-devel 2.6.6 and ath9k installed. Then I tried * $ modprobe ath9k *but nothing happened. Then I input *$ service NetworkManager start $ chkconfig NetworkManager on *to access the Network Manager and no wireless connection options appear. I do not think it is a big problem for you guys, but I am really a beginner. Please share me some solutions for that. Thank you!

mdraid strange surprises...

Hey, I installed 2 new data servers with a big (12TB) RAID6 mdraid. I formated the whole arrays with bad blocks checks. One server is moderately used (nfs on one md), while the other not. One week later, after the raid-check from cron, I get on both servers a few block_mismatch... 1976162368 on the used one and a tiny bit less on the other... That seems a tiny little bit high... I do the whole repair+recheck and it is back to zero. For brand new arrays, I am not very happy about the way mdraid seems to function (with the manual/croned checks, repairs, checks, checks, repairs, checks...) I will have to see next week how high the mismatches reach... Since my desktop is a RAID1 mdraid on 2 disks, I decided to have a look for fun... Apart from some low count mismatches, I did not have many problems... Did the whole check+repair+check on 3 mds and had a look at mdstat... md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0] 200704 blocks [2/2] [UU] md1 : active raid1 sdb2[1] 2048192 blocks [2/1] [_U] md2 : active raid1 sdb3[1] sda3[0] 2048192 blocks [2/2] [UU] md3 : active raid1 sdb6[1] sda6[0] 6144704 blocks [2/2] [UU] md4 : active raid1 sdb8[1] sda8[0] 2048192 blocks [2/2] [UU] md5 : active raid1 sda7[0] 4096448 blocks [2/1] [U_] md6 : active raid1 sdb5[2](F) sda5[0] 131074176 blocks [2/1] [U_] md7 : active raid1 sdb9[1] sda9[0] 340722432 blocks [2/2] [UU] It seems like I have some healthy volumes, some "failed partitions", and even some "missing partitions"... on both disks... And mdraid seems not alarmed about it... 1. Is there something to activate to get some kind of mdraid warnings? In /var/log/messages I cannot find any alarming message. 2. How to recover? Reboot? Or should I just mdadm --add the missing ones and --remove then --add the failed ones? Thx, JD

XFS quotas not working at all (seemingly)

Hi All, I have a very strange problem that I'm unable to pinpoint at the moment. For some reason I am simply unable to get xfs_quotas to report correctly on a freshly installed, fully patched CentOS 6 box. I have specified all the same options as on another machine which *is* reporting quota LABEL=TEST /exports/TEST xfs inode64,nobarrier,delaylog,usrquota,grpquota 0 0 xfs_quota -xc 'limit -u bsoft=900m bhard=1g user' /exports/TEST however xfs_quota -xc 'report -hu' /exports/ reports back nothing pertaining to the user but if a do a quota user I get information back Disk quotas for user user (uid 67876): Filesystem blocks quota limit grace files quota limit grace /dev/mapper/DATA-TEST 0 921600 1048576 1 0 0 This is very strange and it's something new. Can anyone confirm similar findings on their machines before I consider reporting a bug? -- James A. Best configuration for encrypted software RAID 1?

I'm setting up a computer with CentOS 6.4 and a mirrored software RAID. I would like it to be encrypted so I was wondering what the best configuration is. The only info I could find is http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-docs/2008-October/001912.html but it appears to be a bit old and the info on the wiki ( http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/EncryptTmpSwapHome ) doesn't seem to address RAIDs. My main question is will it be better to encrypt the RAID itself or the two partitions used by the RAID? Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks, Dave

Sendmail not presenting AUTH option after EHLO

Hello folks, I have a CentOS 6.4 installation running Sendmail, and after some serious hair tear stare and compare I'm a bit stumped. When I connect to the server either with telnet or SSL, sendmail is not presenting the AUTH capability after an EHLO. Everything looks like it should be working, but no amount of tweaking is getting the AUTH capability advertised (and it doesn't work if you just try it anyway). Here's the config bits from sendmail.mc-- define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `EXTERNAL GSSAPI DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`EXTERNAL DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl Note: Also tried define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `LOGIN PLAIN')dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`LOGIN PLAIN')dnl just to keep things simple. saslauthd is running, and configured--/etc/sysconfig/saslauthd SOCKETDIR=/var/run/saslauthd MECH=pam FLAGS= /etc/sasl2/Sendmail.conf contains-- pwcheck_method:saslauthd /etc/pam.d/smtp contains-- #%PAM-1.0 auth include password-auth account include password-auth But when I do "openssl s_client -starttls smtp -connect localhost:587" I don't get any AUTH capability-- ehlo localhost 250-pennzoil.gizmopartners.com Hello localhost [127.0.0.1], pleased to meet you 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 250-DSN 250-DELIVERBY 250 HELP quit All the certs are built, and if I connect via telnet, the server does advertise STARTTLS.
