NetworkManager substitute??

I'm investigating how to setup KVM so I can run VMs without having to use VirtualBox or VMware, or etc. All the HOWTOs I see tell you to disable NM. I use NM to manage VPN clients that I use for remote access to my office, among other places. How would I manage those VPN clients if I didn't use NM? Does elrepo fix google-chrome requirement for newer glib and GTK

Has anyone tested installing the newer kernels from elrepo (or somewhere else) in order to keep google-chrome updated beyond version 27? Actually, i assumed a newer kernel would come with a newer glibc but i do not see a newer glibc via elrepo, just newer kernels. hmmm. # yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=elrepo* info glibc | grep -i repo only lists my already installed glibc packages from updates. Further, google-chrome requires gtk2 version 2.24.0 or above, and i do not see that in any alternate repos either. But that is another question because #rpm -qi gtk2-2.18.9 finds the package, but #yum clean all #yum --enablerepo=* search all gtk2-2.18.9 says "No Matches found" So clearly something is messed up if yum can not find one its own packages it itself installed, so i cannot trust it to find gtk2-2.24. For those that do not use google-chrome-stable, each time it is newly started, the following message appears close to the top of the window: "Google Chrome has stopped updating and no longer supports this version of your operating system." rpc.idmamd warnings/errors

Hello, Every 15 minutes I get an error on NFSv4 server: rpc.idmapd[1889]: nss_getpwnam: name '0' does not map into domain 'aaa.test.home' I have fully updated Centos 6.4 machine. All shares seems to be ok. Does anybody know, what does this error mean? Thank You. -- mv

Installing OpenOffice401 on CentOS6

Up until this morning I have been running multiple versions of Libre and Open Office on my x86_64 CentOS desktop including the most recent. I decided, foolishly, to remove the oldest versions. Now I cannot get anything other than the LO version from base (3.4.5) to run. And, reinstalling all the older versions do not alter this condition. What I am seeing is this: # openoffice4 no suitable windowing system found, exiting. SELinux is often cited as the cause of this problem for OOo but the system is set to permissive and in any case nothing respecting OOo shows up when I run audit2why. # getenforce Permissive I found a site that gives instructions for installing OOo 4.0.1 on CentOS-6.4 but even after following those instructions literally step by step I still get the "no suitable windowing system found" error. Could not find kernel-debuginfo-2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64.rpm in debuginfo repo

Hi all, My CentOS 6.0 system kernel crashed, the original 2.6.32-71 x86_64 kernel was used, but I could not find the debuginfo package in debuginfo.centos.org repo. How can I got it? Regards, An Yang

What I want to do is install WordPress on a CentOS 6.4 server using MariDB. According to the WordPress documentation you need a LAMP server. I have installed MariaDB and php. Network Problem on New Install of 6.4

I have a new install of CentOS 6.4 on an HP Pavilion 500-27c with one mother board nic card. results of lspci : 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10) 04:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. Device 539b results of ifconfig -a lo Link encap:Local Loopback wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 70:18:8B:80:AE:71 There is no /etc/sysconfig/network file present. The install was performed without incident from a DVD. I would surely appreciate your help in trying to activate this network. Is this a problem with the 6.4 disc or do I have a network card on this machine that is not supported by 6.4 -- Greg Ennis PoMec Corporation www.PoMec.Net
