Provide access to /home folder

I have a CentOS linux web server in which I have multiple web sites. I have many website programmers now doing the coding for all the sites. How can I provide a key-based authentication for the programmers in such a way that they have access only to /home folder ? They should be able to access only all the files inside /home and able to modify it. This is cPanel server in which all the sites comes under /home directory. Currently they are using separate passwords for every site. If I could give access to my developer inside /home folder, they would be able to do edit all the sites easily rather than having separate password for each site (eg : /home/site1 or /home/site2). Please share your ideas on the same. Thanks,

Several. First, see if you CentOS supports that card. The alternative is to go to Highpoint's website, and look for the driver. You *might* need to get the source and build it - I had to do that a few months ago, on an old 2260 (I think it is) card, and had to hack the source -they're *not* good about updates. If you're lucky, they'll have a current driver or source. Second, on our HBR's (that's a technical term - Honkin' Big RAIDS... <g>), we use ext4, and RAID 6. Also, for about two years, I keep finding things that say that although ext4 supports gigantic filesystems, the tools aren't there yet. The upshot is that I make several volumes and partition them into 14TB-16TB filesystems. Besides, if you have a problem with a truly humongous RAID, the rebuild will finish sometime around next summer.... mark

mount.cifs install problem

Hello list After samba4 installation cant install cifs-utils. Is there an other way of mount an externall network drive without using mount.cifs? I try mount -t cifs //192.168.10.230/OpenShare/srvbackup /mnt/backup/ But I get "is not a valid block device" error I have centos-release-6-4.el6.centos.10.x86_64 This ext drive is also linked to a fedora server without problem. iptables

I ran: iptables -L and see this: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere state RELATED,ESTABLISHED ACCEPT icmp -- anywhere anywhere ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere REJECT all -- anywhere anywhere reject-with icmp-host-prohibited Does the REJECT all over-ride the ACCEPT all Would "DROP all" be better so people banging on the ports don't see a reply? I ran the gui tool to open ssh and it is in between ACCEPT all and REJECT all. Why does it work if there is a REJECT all after it? Thanks, -wes

/etc/inittab

I noticed in /etc/inittab that it has this line: # 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this) It makes sense, but what if it did get set to 0 or 6? Is there a way to boot to single-user mode anyway to edit the file and change it to a correct value? What if it is set to a negative number or a value > 6? Does it default to a valid value.

building software raid.

dear All, I'm spending the afternoon trying to build software raid using this ( excellent ) guide : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Install_On_Partitionable_RAID1 I'm doing this not only because this machine has no raid controller - I could go out and buy one - but also because I hope software raid will provide easier monitoring. This is a newly installed, updated Centos6.4 standard machine. So far I arrived at part1 step 4: -----> mdadm --add /dev/md_d0 /dev/sdb and this is on 16.6 % Looking at part 2 , step 2 : ------------> Edit /etc/fstab, you must change all mounts from using LABEL= to explicit device names, like /dev/md_d0p1, /dev/md_d0p2, ... I'm wondering where I can find the names md_d0p1, p2 and so on. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks very much. I had an issue recently where a package (openoffice) would not work correctly and: yum reinstall openoffice\* #did not help rpm -Va #did not find ANY issues (which surprised me when I did figure out what was wrong) however doing a (I did a more restricted, to openoffice files, version of) find /usr/ -not -perm -o+r -exec ls -lhd {} + find /usr/ -type d -not -perm -g+x -exec ls -lhd {} + find /usr/ -type d -not -perm -o+x -exec ls -lhd {} + found files that were not even set to write for ROOT (and in general had NO permission for anyone else)! The idea is basically that almost all files in /usr/ should be READABLE by any user and almost all directories should be READABLE & EXECUTABLE by all so that they can list and read the files in them. I don't know if the commands at http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/reset-rhel-centos-fedora-package-file-perm ission.html would have fixed the issue, because I brute forced the perms to root writeable and then reinstalled the packages again. BTW, I still feel a little confused on what the OP's original problem was and why they are headed in the direction of a 'reinstall the system'. Seems a bit overkill for most problems.
