Every 3ware card (also from LSI) I've used also works OOTB with CentOS. If you are new to hardware RAID, the 3ware interface is a lot easier to learn than the MegaRAID's. (I suspect that other LSI cards, including the 9201, work fine with CentOS too; perhaps you can post your error messages so we can see what's wrong, instead of replacing a working controller.) I tried to respond to this earlier, but *%@#$%^& manitou blocked me again. I wouldn't recommend the RocketRaid. We have a few of them here; they work ok, but Highpoint, who makes them, are *not* really great about updating drivers once the card's out their door. The last one we put back into service, I had to find the last source code they had for that card, several years old, and then fix the code before I could compile it. (At least it was in C). Second on MegaRAID. The ones we have here are the Dell rebranded PERCs, and we've never had trouble, except with ones nearly 10 years old. mark

libgtkhtml-editor

Guys/Gals: On 64bit 6.5, I've had to "yum remove" the Xiphos package because it was causing errors in "yum update", complaints about it requiring libgtkhtml-editor. SOHO colour laser printer recommendations

Hi List, I'd really appreciate some recommendations for colour laser printers for use with CentOS. It's for light home use with CentOS 5 and CentOS 6 systems. Must have: 1. Colour. Quality not that important as mainly for kids school project type of stuff. 2. Ethernet connectivity - want something I can plug into the network 3. Cheap running costs - don't want to be spending a fortune on toner 4. Linux support I have very little experience with printing on Linux. I'm assuming I want a laser with Postscript and/or PCL emulation, and Linux driver support (still not sure exactly what I should be looking for here). Top of my very short list at present is: Brother HL-4140CN at £167 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-HL4140CN-Network-Colour-Printer/dp/B0047753… I'd appreciate any other recommendations people might have. compiz workspace panel show 4 workspaces when I have 8

Compiz is showing only 4 workspaces when I log in. If I go in to the compiz settings manager -> general -> general options -> desktop size it says 8 in Horizontal Virtual size. I can get it to work right if I move Vertical Virtual size to the right then back to 1. How do I get it to stay showing 8? Thanks, -wes

Hey, (sorry for cross-posting, you will find this message also in centos-virt, maybe, but this was not intended and a mistake) I have a system with a mdraid 1 ... md1 : active raid1 sdb2[1] sda2[0] 1465031488 blocks [2/2] [UU] ... this raid partition has a lvm physical volume with one volume group and several logical volumes. This machine is running since years and I seldom touch the lvm config. The lvm commands are giving me strange warnings I am uncomfortable with ... # pvdisplay Found duplicate PV b79x0kLXR9mAC0z0IZUxyJG1VC24Crl7: using /dev/sda2 not /dev/md1 --- Physical volume --- PV Name /dev/sda2 VG Name vg_sys PV Size 1.36 TB / not usable 6.81 MB Allocatable yes PE Size (KByte) 32768 Total PE 44709 Free PE 17701 Allocated PE 27008 PV UUID b79x0k-LXR9-mAC0-z0IZ-UxyJ-G1VC-24Crl7 ... What does this "Found duplicate PV b79x0kLXR9mAC0z0IZUxyJG1VC24Crl7: using /dev/sda2 not /dev/md1" message? Some logical volumes are virtual disks vor kvm guests. Are these guests using sda only and not the mdraid? -- Markus

Nux! I can attest to the usefulness of 'lsyncd' for large numbers of files (our file server has almost 2 million in active use, with a second backup server that's lsync'd to the first. Things to note: - Yes, lsyncd does use rsync, but it issues an 'exclude *' followed by the list of only the file(s) that need updating at that moment. - The inotify service can be jacked waaaay up (three kernel parameters) to handle millions of files if you wish. Just make sure you have lots of RAM. It's wise to tune ZFS to *not* use all available RAM. - Updating is very quick and has never failed. Regarding ZFS, our two ZFS-on-Linux servers have been in full production for several months, with zero problems so far. Updates to the latest version is quite painless. Today I had to replace a failed 4TB drive ... it took just a few minutes and required only two commands to do the replacement and start the resilvering process. This was done while the server was in active use, with only a small performance hit. Sweet! Chuck

yum update interruption recovery

Hi All: I am having problems with a CentOS 6.4 box that I was in the process of doing a yum update to 6.5. Unfortunately the system hung during the update and I was forced to reboot it and it is now a bit of a mess. Issue mounting /home area from NAS server

Hi, Just before the Thanksgiving break, we enabled quotas on the /home areas on the mseas-data server (running CentOS 5.8), using the following line in the updated /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/the_raid-lv_home /home ext3 defaults,usrquota,grpquota 1 0 Following the Thanksgiving reboot of mseas-data we have been experiencing problems with svn on mseas (our front-end machine, running CentOS 6.2). After consulting with the svn mailing list, it appeared to be a communication issue between mseas and mseas-data. We therefore rebooted mseas. Now mseas is not mounting /home. We get the following error [root@mseas etc]# mount mseas-data:/home mount.nfs: Unknown error 521 We have tried this mounting with both of the following lines in fstab and got the same error mseas-data:/home /home nfs defaults 0 0 mseas-data:/home /home nfs defaults,usrquota,grpquota 0 0 (the latter was to mimic the mounting of /home on mseas-data) The only thing we've found out on the web so far was advice on editting /etc/exports to have an "insecure" option for the export of /home, which we already had. Any thoughts on how to resolve or debug this issue would be greatly appreciated. No Trackpad tab in Mouse Preferences

I have CentOS 6.5 running on a iMac. I tried to set up a trackpad, but the Bluetooth utility said there was no bluetooth hardware. I rebooted in to the OS X side and verified that bluetooth was in the system and set up the trackpad. I then rebooted in to CentOS again and there was no Bluetooth icon in the panel for setting up BlueTooth devices, but I pressed the trackpad and it started working. I then looked in to enabled tap (instead of a hard press), but there is no Trackpad tab in the Mouse Preferences pane. How do I get the Trackpad tab? I did rpm -qa|grep synaptics and it show I have xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.6.2-13.el6.x86_64 installed. How do I get the Trackpad tab? Thanks, -wes
