CentOS 6.4, TigerVNC, and always-on feature

I just finished a fresh install of CentOS 6.4 and successfully configured Tiger VNC. I can now VNC to the server. In previous version of CentOS 5.x, I could modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that when I VNC to the server I am seeing the same desktop as someone who is sitting in front of the machine (ie. their session, all open windows, etc.). The tutorial for creating this "always on" type of VNC connection is here --> http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server#head-7e0dadd72b0ddd9c84381b053b440… The tutorial says to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf but this file no longer exists in CentOS 6.4. Is there another way to configure VNC for "always on"? Thanks, Mark

CentOS Dojo at Antwerp on the 8th Apr 2013

hi guys, I just want to drop in a quick note about the first ever CentOS Dojo that is taking place in Antwerp on the 8th April - if you are in the area, or can get there - I highly recommend you come along. Its going to be a great day, with lots of face to face tech conversations and user stories on and around real world challenges on CentOS. http://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/Antwerp2013 has the lineup of people doing the sessions; Plus we have sponsored Lunch and maybe a few beers at the end, along with lots of socialising and networking opportunities during the day. In addition to the lineup, we also have an open CentOS forum that runs for an hour, where anyone can ask any question about the CentOS project, its past, its present and where we are heading - and any concern that people might have about the project. We will also have open spaces, where people can get up, do a quick ignite like 5 min talk about pretty much anything ( we just ask that everyone imagine their grand mother is also watching, so keep content sanity in mind ). The sessions run like Dojo sessions, so they are not like talks at a conference, this is a lot more user interactive and driven around the CentOS mindset - so no one is trying to sell you anything or make their toys look better than someone elses. As it stands now (or at least that is what I think) when CentOS moves from one minor version to another (6.3 to 6.4) the 6.3 version machines automatically pick up the upgrade and the next time you do yum upgrade all of the upgrades are applied. This happens because in the repo configs (in our case) we have baseurl=ftp://yum.xx.xx.xx.xx/pub/linux/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/ Is there a way to force a 6.3 machine to remain at 6.3 until a human being decides that is is time to do so? thanx

Computer doesn't boot with new 6.4 kernel

Yesterday a upgraded a machine that I have from Centos 6.3 to 6.4, but it doesn't boot with the new kernel (2.6.32-358). Right after grub the screen shows a distorted image, a bit like war of the ants but static, and nothing more happens. With the old kernel (2.6.32-279) it boots fine. The motherboard is a Asus E45M1-M Pro. There's no separate graphics card, but I use the one on the motherboard, a AMD Radeon HD 6320. Should I file bug report or is there something else to try? /Markus

Greetings, The alpine mail rpm indicates that it comes packaged with configuration files (/etc/pine*conf*). However, they aren't there. Possible? Also, how did you get rid of the annoying alpine bug: a message that keeps flashing - [Folder vulnerable - directory /var/spool/mail must have 1777 protection]? Thanks. Max Pyziur pyz(a)brama.com

Most of my users are on kde, as am I (I really don't like gnome). I've got one on gnome, though, CentOS 6.4, and I have a problem: I have to start an agent running ->on login<-, so that the same one is in the environment of every term window he opens. In kde, no problem, I modify /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common so that code in there calls our (newer) ssh-agent instead of the stock one. (And, of course, it's killed on logout, and there's only one running, not one every time that never go away unless killed manually.) /etc/gdm/Xsession *says* that it sources that file, so it should be running when he logs in. I've just had him log out and log back in, <ctl><alt><bkspc>, and no matter what, it just ain't running. So, gnome fans, how do I get that to work? Edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf? Edit something else? gconftool-2 (gahhhh)? mark

silencing Passenger "ps" SELinux errors

There is an Apache directive to turn it of ( http://www.modrails.com/documentation/Users%20guide%20Apache.html#Passenger… ), unfortunately it does not work in community version of Passenger. The cause is always ps running as passenger_t trying to read files in /proc with various types of security context. Thank you, IgnasR
