Virtualization in RHEL

Hello Friends I need a guide to virtualization in RHEL. I tried many ways but it always gives me a different error, and in fact is very difficult and I know what I'm doing wrong. What I want to achieve is to install a virtual machine from a ks.cfg on RHEL 6 If someone is holding appreciate some guidance about whether the share. I've searched Google, Youtube, and other pages about it, and I can not accomplish anything. Thanks in advance

Appache index error on CentOS-6,4

I am getting this error when trying to access a virtual website index by ip address and port on a host that has SELinux disabled (another issue over which I have less control than I wish): curl http://192.168.6.9:41780 | more Gives this error in /var/log/httpd/error_log [Mon Jun 10 09:04:44 2013] [error] [client 192.168.6.9] Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /tftpboot/ and displays the default Centos/Apache server page instead of the list of files in the directory. This virtual host is defined thus: Listen 192.168.6.9:41780 <VirtualHost 192.168.6.9:41780> DocumentRoot "/tftpboot" <Directory "/tftpboot"> allow from all Options +Indexes </Directory> </VirtualHost> If I specify a known file within /tftpboot then that file's contents are displayed properly. Issue tracker question: Can I delete/replace an attachment?

Hi. I recently uploaded a file to a certain issue in the CentOS issue tracker. I then found it wasn't quite correct, so I edited it, then tried "Upload file" again, with the same filename, but got a message saying: APPLICATION ERROR #9 This is a duplicate file. Please delete the file first. Please use the "Back" button in your web browser to return to the previous page. There you can correct whatever problems were identified in this error or select another action. You can also click an option from the menu bar to go directly to a new section. I can't find a way to "delete the file first", though. Is this possible? Force to strip all symbols from ELFs when using rpmbuild on CentOS

Hello. What's the proper way to remove *all symbols* from ELF binaries when building packages with rpmbuild on CentOS? Seems that an out of the box rpmbuild install only discards debugging symbols (strip -g). That's the default configuration for %__os_install_post on CentOS, the step in charge on stripping binaries: $ rpmbuild --showrc (..) -14: __os_install_post %{_rpmconfigdir}/brp-compress %{_rpmconfigdir}/brp-strip %{_rpmconfigdir}/brp-strip-static-archive %{_rpmconfigdir}/brp-strip-comment-note ELF binaries are stripped with /usr/lib/rpm/brp-strip, this script explicitly calls to /usr/bin/strip with "-g" flag and discards only debugging symbols. Seems that the people usually installs "redhat-rpm-config" package to achieve this. Indeed it builds RPMs with all symbols removed, but it also installs some helper scripts and macros that change other behaviors, for example SRPMs are signed with SHA-256. When "redhat-rpm-config" package is installed, %__os_install_post variable is modified and find-debuginfo.sh is executed, this script will remove all symbols, but it will *also* build "-debug" packages, and that's not what I'm looking for. For the moment, I have have added another script to %__os_install_post step that removes all symbols using "strip --strip-all", but I wonder if this is the most straightforward method, thanks. Intel 82579V ethernet nic using only one IRQ? (Dual TX RX queues)

Hello CentOS Community, So I bought a NIC (using the Intel 82579V chipset) that supports Dual RX and TX queues , my goal with that is so iam able to see and use two IRQs in /proc/interrupts and hence be able to take advantage of 2 cores on my CPU. Instead I only see one IRQ being used, and hence only one CPU core.. Please see below. Advisement is appreciated! OS upgrade from CentOS 6.x version.

Hi, Currently I am running CentOS 6.4 on all my production environment. Lets say after six months there is CentOS 6.5. Do i need to update it to the latest version and is it recommended to use yum update command to update to 6.5 on a production environment without testing. Please help me understand. Regards, Kaushal

RHEL clone distributions being marginalized?

It appears that Redhat is starting to offer newer packages as an add on license to their distribution. In the past I believe they only offered add on license packages beyond what did not come with the base distribution like GFS or the HA packages. Of course this has also changed over time. The latest beta release of software collections and the developer suite shows that they are providing software channels that install newer versions of GCC(4.8), Python(2.7, 3.3), PHP, perl, mariadb, etc. I'm wondering if at some point Redhat is going to remove these packages from the base distribution and only have them as add on licensed channels. I guess they still need a baseline version that will stay the same for the customers who refuse to update for compatibility reasons. At this point the developer suite is a pretty good deal because you get RHEL server with most of the licensed add on channels for only $99 a year. However, you're not suppose to use it for production.. Is there a plan for the CentOS group to release these newer packages too? If these packages start being used by developers and required to run their programs/web apps I think it could marginalize RHEL clone distributions like CentOS. David.

IPv4 192.168.71.1 'leaks out onto WAN.

Arch = x86_64 OS = CentOS-6.4 (centos) with all updates applied to date. On our gateway host eth0 is the WAN access and eth1 is the LAN. I wish to activate the address 192.185.71.1 on eth1. The ifcfg-eth1:192071 file contains this: NAME="" BOOTPROTO=none MACADDR="" IPV6INIT=no DEVICE=eth1:192071 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 MTU="" BROADCAST=192.168.71.255 ONPARENT=no IPADDR=192.168.71.1 NETWORK=192.168.71.0 ONBOOT=no When I try ifup to activate the address then I see this: # ifup eth1:192071 Error, some other host already uses address 192.168.71.1. I investigated what that host could be using nmap -v -APn 192.168.71.1/32 and discovered that my gateway host is allowing 192.168.71.0 out through eth0 onto the WAN (and presumably anything else that it originates). Presently we masquerade 192.168.0.0/16 in a NAT POSTROUTING chain which handles the internal hosts seeking addresses on the WAN. However, I am unsure of how to handle the gateway itself. Is this situation best handled by a permanent route reflecting 192.168 to eth1 only? Or, is it handled better by an addition to the OUTPUT chain in the NAT IPTable? Or, is the best method something else entirely of which I am unaware? Any suggestions? -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Unable to ping google... but can ping bing...

Hello all, this is what happens when I attempt to ping both search engines: http://bin.cakephp.org/view/168484871 One has 100% packet loss, the other none. Here is my route -n: http://bin.cakephp.org/view/219711338 Also, this is my iptables -L output: http://bin.cakephp.org/view/2102713387 This is a 64-bit virtual machine running on Azure, OpenLogic CentOS 6.3. If more info is needed, I'll gladly provide it, but I don't understand why I can't ping google... very weird...
