CentOS 6.4 login after reboot after apcupsd shutdown - shows POWER FAILURE

Hi list, just putting a new server through its automatic shutdown triggered by the UPS / apcupsd. All worked faultlessly, including powering up when power came back on to the UPS. So then I go to log in and get "POWER FAILURE" followed by "Authentication failure" - this is on the console via SSH I just get "POWER FAILURE" and the ssh connection drops. So I guess the, log everyone out and stop further logins instruction is still lurking around somewhere. How do I regain control of my server?? Does this mean I need to boot with a rescue disk and edit some file somewhere?? How do I prevent this re-occurring, after a perfect shutdown and restart, only to get stymied here. Google has lots of help for dealing with various corruptions due to power failure - not the case here, the POST, grub, init restart all look just fine. TIA

I realize this is (mostly) off topic, but I'm befuddled as to *how* one can post to the Gmane Pan Users' group (gmane.comp.gnome.apps.pan.user) using any nntp USENET client (e.g., Pan, on Centos). I'm already subscribed (by having sent an email to pan-users(a)nongnu.org); but I just want that USENET group to work like *this* USENET group, where I can post using a server:port login:password combination such as we use here: Server: news.gmane.org Port: 119 Login: blank Password: blank User: Rock I've looked here (http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.apps.pan.user) and if the answer is there, I don't see it (maybe I missed it?). My basic question is so simply I'm shocked I'm having to ask it (of the wrong group even) ... which is ... the following: Q: How on earth is one supposed to post to the Gmane Pan users using an nntp client (which requires a server name and port & login/password)?

I found, that RedHat released RedHat Software Collections for RedHat EL 6, will this be sometimes available for CentOS too?

spamassassin with postfix/dovecot

I'm trying to install spamassassin on a postfix/dovecot server, running CentOS-6.4, following the instructions at <http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Amavisd>. I think I have taken all the steps indicated, and the configuration seems to pass the tests suggested, although the response is much more sparse than that described: ------------------------ [tim@alfred ~]$ telnet localhost 10024 Trying 127.0.0.1... Having difficulty exporting display

Hello, This is my issue, my remote machine (CentOS 6.3, hosted in Azure windows environment) has an application that I need to test on my local box (CentOS 6.4, a laptop behind a router). Now, this is what I'm doing and the issue that I'm encountering: Local: $ xhost + $ ssh -X someusername(a)somehostname.net -p 49283 Remote: $ export DISPLAY=192.168.1.6:0.0 $ xclock ... and nothing, it just sits there and no xclock shows up :( . I'm fairly convinced that this is due to my router, but I don't know how to deal with it. Any ideas? Am I way off in my guess?

Puppet el5 repo...

Hey, any puppet user on CentOS 5 using puppet lab's repository...? I installed their el5 repository but a puppet install asks for: ruby >= 1.8.7 which is only available on CentOS 6... Someone using their repo? Or do you use the repoforge one...? Thx, JD

Firewall will not disable - stumped!

very perplexed here - I need to turn off iptables. fstab, unusual behavior of "missing UUID"

I have the following as the last line of my /etc/fstab file on a computer running CentOS6.4.. UUID=3b550884-8d05-41a5-a205-17b6d7269dd1 /mnt ext3 rw,suid,dev,exec,noauto,nouser,async 0 2 The UUID refers to an ext3 partition of a removable USB drive. If the USB drive is not plugged into the computer the computer will not boot. It seems that this is the incorrect behavior since "noauto" means there is nothing to mount. I noticed this situation since an almost identical /etc/fstab on a Fedora 18 computer will boot without the USB drive being plugged in. The reason this is important to me is that I want to plug my USB drive into a running computer and then mount it with "# mount /mnt" so I can do backups. Thank you, Joe Hesse

Windows 2008 R2 on KVM

Hi All, I have a KVM machine with CentOS 6.4 (64bit), I have a Linux guest running well on this, I created a Windows 2008 R2 guest and once I start it, after sometime all the host memory get exhausted and both the guests (linux+win) killed. Host has 32 GB RAM, 8 GB is allocated to Linux guest and 8 GB to Windows. Any idea? anyone experienced similar issue?
