Create Virtual Machine via HTTP or FTP

Hi, I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine using Network Install mode (I tried HTTP and FTP). The HTTP/FTP server where the installation files are located is the Host Machine. The URL that I'm using is: http://192.168.1.104/inst and the Automatic detect option detects the OS without problem. When the installation starts I got an error: Unable to retrieve http://192.168.1.104/inst/images/install.img I tried different path but I always get the same error. The host machine is a Centos 6.2 (2.6.32.-220.el6.x86_64) I really appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks in advance,

idea: "hybrid" iso images?

In order to create a bootable CentOS installation USB thumb drive, there are several steps one must follow. The process often involves using a Windows box, which can be kinda annoying. The Linux Mint distro has what they call a "Hybrid" iso image. (see: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744 ) This image can be written to a thumb drive and used for installation simply by performing: # dd /path/to/image.iso of=/dev/sdb (where /dev/sdb is the thumb drive device). This thumb drive can now be booted and used for installation. The same image.iso file can be written to CD/DVD to create the installation media as well. Is this a complicated ISO build process? I'm frequently installing to systems without CD/DVD drives, so this would come in handy. Thanks! nfs4, idmapd, users with same name, different uid?

Is idmapd supposed to work where users have different uid numbers on the nfsv4 server and client? It seems to show the right names for ownership on the client side, but if I automount a home directory, that user doesn't have permission to enter it, and if I change permission to allow access and create a new file, it shows on the server as owned by the uid number for the user on the client (and wrong on the server). Everything works like it would on nfs v3 where the uid numbers are the same on the client and server, but what's the point of the rpcidmapd daemon if it doesn't actually map the ids? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Best configuration for encrypted software RAID 1?

I'm setting up a computer with CentOS 6.4 and a mirrored software RAID. I would like it to be encrypted so I was wondering what the best configuration is. The only info I could find is http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-docs/2008-October/001912.html but it appears to be a bit old and the info on the wiki ( http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/EncryptTmpSwapHome ) doesn't seem to address RAIDs. My main question is will it be better to encrypt the RAID itself or the two partitions used by the RAID? Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks, Dave

ghostscript-8.70-14.el5_8.1.x86_64 & hylafax+ 5.5.3

I am having some problems with hylafax+ on CentOS 5.9 converting files into appropriate tiff files that are faxable; the problem is apparently fixed in ghostscript 9.07. The CentOS repositories currently have ghostscript-8.70-14.el5_8.1.x86_64 I surely appreciate the maintainers of the repositories; can any of you direct me to whom maintains ghostscript on the repository or when 9.07 is planned to be included. I would also like to request that ghostpcl be included, but I am not certain who or how to ask. Thanks for your assistance. Greg Ennis

Building CentOS 6.2 custom install media

Hi, For the OLPC school server ("XS") we are planning to move from our dated F9 setup to CentOS 6.2. Thanks for all the effort involved in producing this distro. One important part of this project is a 'respin' of the install media - we need to add a handful of packages from external repositories, and maybe run a command late in the install. Are the scripts/configurations used to produce the CentOS official CD/DVDs available? I guess this would be our most reliable/sensible starting point. I am familiar with pungi, kickstart, anaconda, etc, so just a simple git link would be enough to get me started. Thanks, Daniel

Apple movie trailers on Centos6/Firefox

Hi all! Once again, Apple has messed with their trailers/website such that I can no longer play their trailers on Centos 6 (note that it still works fine on my two Fedora machines, F17 and F19, without any special settings. on Centos, I've long ago found that by setting the user agent to certain values I could make it work, but now that no longer helps. when I try to view a trailer all I get is a "download Quicktime" page. When I was running C5, I used mplayer plugin to do the video and it worked fine. after installing C6, I discovered that Totem also worked without the need to mess with mplayer installation. then all of a sudden, a couple weeks ago, it stopped working. at the same time, the choices they offered changed, so now they only offer "automatic", "480p" or "720p". this link is to one I can still play: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/elemental/ and this is a newer one I cannot: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/monstersuniversity/ I am (and have been) using the User Agent Switcher plugin for firefox (for several years) to make this all work, and until recently it has. touchpad problem?

Hi there, i recently installed centos 6 64bit version on my HPProBook4530s Laptop. i then issued the command to update the kernel only. it updated the kernel to latest stable 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.x86_64 kernel. After update what i got is that my touchpad is not working. i am 1000% certain that new kernel caused this problem. so, what i should do with the kernel to overcome this problem or any other suggestion? Two external interfaces, one with "default" route and ping problem

Hi I have two different IP addresses (in a block of /29), one is on port 0 and the other is on port 2 of a Ciso 888. I am doing this so I can have two different certs with two different ip addresses. I have tried: 1) one machine, two real interfaces, two cables (eth0 and eth2) 2) one machine, one real interface eth0 and one virtual interface eth0:1, one network cable Using number 2) I can ping the two different ip addresses, no problem. The only problem here is that iptables does not work (I cannot create rules for eth0:1 - and yes I know about the security implications). I have a problem with number number 1) I can ping the first ip address and I get a return, but I cannot get a return when I ping the second ip address. I can see traffic coming into the second interface but it does not return. Now one of the interfaces needs the "default" route applied (is this correct??), which is eth0.
