mouse "stuck"

Sommetimes, for no apparent reason, my mouse cursor will become four arrows and suddenly I cannot do anything with my desktop. I can move the cursor and that is it. Clicking has no effect. cnrtl-alt-F6 gave me another virtual console from which I could post this. Other rebooting, how do I fix this? yum problem

Hi, all. I'm experiencing a problem with Yum. When I call 'sudo yum update' it tells me that it can't find any mirrors & after doing a 'sudo yum clean all' it just informs me it can't find any base repo & quits. This is on a brand new installation of CentOS 6.2 x86_64. I suffered the same problem with Fedora 19 too. I have several Ubuntu & Mac OS X machines that suffer no network connection problems & I can connect to the InterWeb just fine (via two HP Procurve 2426s). Any help appreciated. Cheers, Phil...

problem with WOL

Running CentOS 6.4. Hi I have a bunch of Intel systems. Ivy Bridge Q77 chipset with 82579LM nics. I can't seem to wake them up with ether-wake. The nic driver is the intel e1000e. #ether-wake -i ethX mac-addr Once up (manually) ethtool reports Supports Wake-on: pumbg Wake-on: g I'm sure I've set the bios up properly. Any advice?

Qeury regarding 64GB SSD + 2tb?

Greetings, I have a system x3100 m4 system with 64GB SSD for OS and 2x2tb for data as MD device (software RAID). It had Fedora 17 with EFI/ I tried to install centos 6. deleting the existing partitions on the SSD /dev/sdc. sda and sdb are the 2x2tb md device mounted on /home. no joy. googling Questions: 1. Where do I locate the boot loader? /dev/sdc? is MBR (the default with Centos) enough 2. Is it necessary to have GPT label and EFI on /dev/sdc? 3. Will it affect in anyway sda and sdb (I am not choosing to format them)? any pointers with information to wrap my head around FC17 was running fine after I fsck-ed the /dev/sdc4 which had vanished when this box came in. To my knowlege, a root file system of size 64GB should be handled peacefully by centos. GPT comes into picture only on > 2tb partitions for different mountpoints. or is it that any system mounting more than 2tb disk as non-root will necessarily need a boot disk with a GPT label and EFI partition? Am I right or have I got it all wrong? Any reply and pointers appreciated. Thanks in advance, -- Regards, Rajagopal

X11partioning

Hi All, I am searching for a way in X11 to "partition" or "divide" the screen. For example the physical size of the screen may be 1920x1080 but what if I want 3 sections like A B C where A is treated as a screen or division by itself, then B and C the same way. Some subset of the screen. So the application running in space A does not affect the application B or C and vice versa. Does something like that exist of X11? All this is on the same physical screen. Just dividing it up. Thanks Jerry

Help with VMware ESXi manager for CentOS - newbie level

Hi. On my new job we use VMware ESXi (Free version), but my colleagues use Windows on their PC's. I am allowed to use CentOS Linux, but I have no prior experience with WMVare. I now (today) have to install CentOS 6.x minimal on that ESXi server, so I am trying to wrap my head around whole ecosystem. What should I install on my CentOS 6.x so I can access/manage ESXi server and manage it? Direct link or nice howto would help me immensely. Shell Script Help

I have a script file in my cron.hourly that contains a good number of scripts I must call. #!/bin/sh sleep 15 perl /scripts/create_graph.pl & sleep 15 perl /scripts/create_graph_out.pl & many more lines. etc. Is there a way I can sleep random length to time before executing each but background each one so master script returns promptly. Something like. sleep (random 1 - 300 seconds, perl /scripts/create_graph_out.pl) &

Problem at boot

Hello to all, I have a question, maybe it's a very newbie question. I've installed CentOS 6.4 on my notebook but sometimes when I boot it, after the screen "booting CentOS in 4..3..2..1" I receive a black screen and not the logo of CentOS with loading progress.
