Multitab GUI SSH clilent found

Hi. I just wanted to notify all that I found very nice GUI SSH client at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pacmanager/ It has rpm packages and works very nice. Multi-tab, Expact support, connections tree, connection , user and password saving (I know they should not be saved). CentOS 6.4 died on me again. Didn't leave any traces that I could find. The screen just suddenly went black. Couldn't switch to another virtual terminal. Pushing the reset button worked. I want to ask about some Kernel level operations.

I want to make sure that while compiling as root nothing will break down inside the machine. I want to compile software on a Xeon SERVER. The basic issue is that there is a recommendation to not compile it as a root user. I have compiled software as a root user more then once and I am not sure why would there is a need to run it as non-root user? I have taken a look at the /proc/ FS but I do not see anything that can harm anything yet. From my aspect it's just background of electricity noise. I will be happy to hear from experience of others about it. Thanks, Eliezer

hi, We have, like in the years past, a table at Fosdem and I'd like to get some tshirts printed to hand out. In the past, the Linux Ninja's and Beards ones got quite a bit of attention ( and both were not brand spammy, which is always nice ). OT hardware question

With the continuing annoyance from motion, my manager's asked me to go looking again for a video surveillance appliance: basically, a motion-detecting DVR and cameras. The big thing, of course, is a) price (this is a US federal gov't agency, and being civilian, money is *tight*, don't give me the libertarian/GOP line about how freely we spend, thankyouverymuch), b) it has to be on the network, and c) we need to be able to d/l to a server, and rm after we do that... and we want to script or cron job that. Right now, I'm looking into Zmodo, R-Tech and CIB security. Anyone have a) opinions on the quality of the hardware from any of those manufacturers (yeah, I know, they're just branded hardware), and/or whether we can do the ssh or telnet in to do what we need? *Extremely* frustrating, since they're all running embedded Linux, that so many say IE and Active X.... mark

Are VMAC drivers stable?

Hi, I'm currently looking into the VMAC options that Keepalived had to offer. This all looks very nice, but now I heard that the VMAC driver in the linux kernel is not really stable if you are not on a 3.2 kernel or later. Can anyone here tell me some more about this? Is this really true? Should I wait with the VMAC options until Centos / RHEL are on a 3.2 kernel? Jan Hugo Prins

I've moved most of my user's PCs from OpenSuse (11.x, unmaintainend now) to CentOS 6.4. On my old OpenSuse latex was "texlive-latex-2010" and current version on CTAN is texlive-2013. But on CentOS 6.4 I've only the old texlive-latex-2007 and several sty files available on my previous config are not available now and users cannot compile their previous documents. Is there a Yum repo from where I can install a more uptodate latex environment for CentOS6.4 ? samba vs LDAP - can I see LDAP logs, please?

Hi, I'm setting up Samba to authenticate against an LDAP Server. I have the basic setup running but authentication fails. I'm 95% sure that the LDAP config is still wrong but the guy I'm setting this up for doesn't really come up with the proper info. I have set log level = 5 and get tons of irrelevant info. What I'd like to see is the LDAP queries that the samba server issues. But I have no idea which magic switch will make this happen. My google-fu seems to be bad today, too as I cannot find any relevant info either. Help! -dirk

Did the install process write the boot sector on both disks or just sda? How do I check and if its not on sdb how do I copy it there?
