Bash still vulnerable

According to the vulnerability test script from shellshocker.net, the latest bash versions on CentOS5 and CentOS6, 3.2-33.el5_11.4 and 4.1.2-15.el6_5.2, resp., are still vulnerable to CVE-2014-6277. In fact, on CentOS6, abrtd will send you a nice report about it. Does anyone know if upstream is working on a fix? Problem with WRT54GL router

I have a curious problem with an old WRT54GL router, which I use as a WiFi access point on my LAN: Internet->ADSL modem->CentOS-7 computer->WRT54GL router The router has always had a slight problem of losing connection every so often - it used to be every couple of days, but recently it has become much more often. My cure was always to disconnect the power from the router for 10 seconds or so, and then re-connect it. Recently I discovered that running the following script on the CentOS computer seems to solve the problem (for a while) sudo systemctl restart dhcpd sudo systemctl restart network sudo systemctl restart shorewall (I suspect the first, dhcpd, is irrelevant.) Incidentally, I am able to ping laptops on the LAN (but not the other way round) even when the router is in its "bad" state. I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience, and can offer advice? I don't like to examine the internals of the router, in case it stops working altogether. DHCPv6 - requesting "other" information

Hello; I've run into a rather interesting problem on CentOS 7. According to sysconfig.txt (part of the initscripts documentation), I can set the following variables in ifcfg-ethX: DHCPV6C="yes" DHCPV6C_OPTIONS="-S" I've done so, but nothing is populated to /etc/resolv.conf and so DNS does not work. Interestingly, if I remove the latter option, an IPv6 address is added to the relevant interface. Packet dumps indicate that the required DNS information is being sent over the wire, so this appears to be a bug in the IPv6 DHCP software. Running the following command by hand yields similar results: $ dhclient -6 -S -v -v eth1 i.e. there are informational messages printed indicating that a DHCPv6 response was received successfully. Packet dumps again confirm that DNS information is being sent over the wire, but is not being used by the DHCP client application. Is this a known issue, and is there a way to fix the problem? Centos laptop support

Today I found myself in need of a laptop to run Centos on. And that simple statement led to an all-day odyssey. My original plan was to purchase a laptop and install Centos 6 on it. I went to Staples and tried booting it on every model of laptop that they had in the store. They all come with Windows 8 installed, and for the edification of anyone who doesn't know this (I didn't until today) you have to conduct a real song and dance to get to the bios settings on one of those things: boot windows move mouse pointer to the top right corner of the screen move down to setting menu (gear) that shows up click on power off icon Hold shift key and left-click on "restart" it goes to the troubleshooting screen click on advanced troubleshooting click on "change uefi settings" now we get to the bios set secure boot off set legacy boot priority And then you can boot from a USB flash drive. *whew* (It's easy to put it back afterward, just go into the bios and tell it set to defaults, save and exit.) Anyway, I tried booting a Centos 6 Live CD image on a usb flash drive on every single model of laptop they had in stock and no joy on any of them -- they either hung altogether, started booting and hung at some point along the way, started a continuous cycle of start booting, reset, start booting again, or kernel panicked. Every last one. I then tried a Centos 7 Live CD image on another usb flash drive and then the third machine that I tried it on (Lenovo Ideapad S400 Touch) worked. So I bought that one and have now wiped Windows off of its hard drive and installed Centos 7 so it now looks and acts like a real computer. I never would have thought that it would take all bloody day to purchase one laptop. (And I'm going to be having nightmares about that Windows Boot Manager thing.) Since it has now become amazingly difficult to get a laptop if you're not planning to use Windows, at least around here, I'm wondering what the rest of you fine folks do when it comes to purchasing a laptop? virsh list hangs

I followed the wiki[1] to create a KVM virtual machine using bridged network on CentOS 6.5. It seemed to work fine on initial setup. However, after a boot, it doesn't auto-start the VMs, or at least, something has to timeout (a *very* long time, on the order of 15--30 minutes) before they can be started. Shortly after boot, if I go into "virsh", then do a "list", it just hangs. Likewise, if I go into "virt-manager", it just hangs "connecting". Kernel version is: 2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64 Relevant package versions: libvirt.x86_64 0.10.2-29.el6_5.12 libvirt-client.x86_64 0.10.2-29.el6_5.12 libvirt-python.x86_64 0.10.2-29.el6_5.12 python-virtinst.noarch 0.600.0-18.el6 virt-manager.x86_64 0.9.0-19.el6 virt-top.x86_64 1.0.4-3.15.el6 virt-viewer.x86_64 0.5.6-8.el6_5.3 qemu-img.x86_64 2:0.12.1.2-2.415.el6_5.14 qemu-kvm.x86_64 2:0.12.1.2-2.415.el6_5.14 CPU is a Xeon E3-1230v3. I have the virtualization setting enabled in the BIOS. I googled on this, and saw a bunch of talk about two years ago regarding issues with the libvirt packages having a deadlock bug. But I think the versions of the relevant packages that I have installed are new enough to have fixes for that. Anyone ever fought this before? Thanks! [1] http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM

A little help with default resolution of CentOS7 and Panasonic TV

Hi, everyone. tldr: How in the heck do I force CentOS7 to boot to a low/conservative GDM resolution? Hoping someone can lend a hand getting CentOS7 to sync to my Panasonic Vierra 42' TV. It worked fine in CentOS6.5 but since installing I boot to a GDM background with no login prompt. can I check the mac address on DHCP from my command line

Hi, I have an interesting problem. I want to be able to verify that my hostname, ipaddress, and mac address are correct in the DNS/DHCP. I have the values, how do I compare. I am able to use NSLOOKUP for the hostname=ip confirmation How do I do the ip addresss = mac address comparison I tried arp and a few other things. Almost everything on google says either to logon to DHCP (which I do not own) or use arp, which is not giving the desired results. I provided the mac address, ip address, and host name I want to find out if a missed entry might be causing the pxe boots and network problems I am having to fail. Dan

CentOS 7 remove items on screen

How can I remove the four items on screen? Applications, Places home trash from the command line? I'd prefer to remove the top panel and bottom panel all together if possible, but they can stay - I just don't want anything showing on the screen. searched all around for kiosk mode gnome3 etc.. not finding anything good for CentOS7. Was able to do this in CentOS 6 can't believe they took out functionality. Any way to "not" have those menu items and not have icons on the main screen? Thanks jerry
