OH NO, Something has gone wrong!

Hi all! I'm setting up C7-64 as a VM using VirtualBox, on a Windows host. as soon as I install the vbox Guest Extensions and reboot, when I log in next time I get a white screen with a frowny face that says "Oh No, Something has gone wrong!" and then "A problem has occurred, and the system can't recover, please log out and try again." Sounds like a VirtualBox problem to me, but was wondering if anyone here had seen it and maybe knows what's going on. restarting mysql databases

I am doing an install of a mysql system, and decided that I needed to change some things like host name. So I have to go back to square one with the mysql setup, but can't find any instructions for this. I TRIED: mysql_install_db And it did SOMETHING, but mysqladmin -u root password 'mypass' failed with: mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)' I tried 'yum reinstall mysql' and that did not help.

But that seems risky as there is /var/lib/mysql/mysql that has lots of interesting looking files. I can understand why this should not be easy - for someone to remove all of your mysql data, but it should be possible...

trying to kickstart a vm guest from my datastore

I have a new ESXi server (5.x), and trying to load some VM guests on there. I have the guests configured, but when I try and boot from ISO image, the graphics are so bad it is futile. No worries I normally use kickstart anyways. Because the ESXi (on the same network as my physical servers) cannot talk to the PXE server. But works fine on the network (I can ssh/scp in and out of the ESXi server). i am unable to kickstart from the network. As this is a blade, there is not DVD access. But I have a kickstart file, an iso image on my datastore. Really I have two questions: 1. how do I "test" or troubleshoot WHY ESXi cannot reach the pxe server. The mac addresses/ips/hostnames of the VM guests are in DNS and DHCP. 2. How do I kickstart a VM guest from the datastore kickstart file/iso image? D.

massive load caused by smartvd

Hey all, I noticed that my puppet server running CentOS 6.5 was acting a little pokey. So I logged in and did what well just about anyone would've done. And ran the uptime command to have a look at the load. And it was astonishingly high! DHCP with ipv6 tunnel

I'm completely confused here and I'm hoping someone here has a setup they're willing to share, or help me configure things on my end. My connectivity is through Comcast, who unfortunately, does not offer ipv6 in my area. My connection goes like this: Comcast -> Motorola Surfboard Cable Router -> CentOS 6.5 server The CentOS server is multi-homed and manages the internal 192.168.x.x network by offering DHCP and firewall service (NATting and others.) DNS lookups are going to Comcast's servers. I have an IPV6 tunnel through Hurricane Electric (www.tunnelbroker.net) The tunnel is configured and is up and running on the CentOS server. I can ping several IPV6 addresses from it just fine: ping6 -n ipv6.google.com PING ipv6.google.com(2607:f8b0:400f:801::1006) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 2607:f8b0:400f:801::1006: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=109 ms 64 bytes from 2607:f8b0:400f:801::1006: icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=109 ms 64 bytes from 2607:f8b0:400f:801::1006: icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=106 ms ^C --- ipv6.google.com ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2436ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 106.905/108.723/109.756/1.317 ms What I'd like to do now is have DHCP offer ipv6 addresses as well. Problem is, I don't know how to configure it properly using the information given to me by Hurricane. I have my client address which is what the CentOS tunnel interface is. Then I have a routed /64 and /48 prefix which I *think* is what I'm supposed to use for my internal network (according to their info popup window) but I don't know how to configure DHCPd to use that and then route through the ipv6 interface. So does anyone here have a tunnel from HE and are using DHCP on an internal network handing out ipv6 addresses? Any suggestions of how to configure dhcpd6.conf? Thanks all. Ash
