Hi there, I've installed C7 and I'm trying to use targetcli and other. Until yesterday all works good. Today I've runned yum update, that has updated glibc. Then I installed targetcli and targetd. After some operation on an md device like mount/umont. After this, during yum install lsof I get: ..... So far so good. Changing LANG from de_DE to en_US in CentOS 6

Hello, on a Macbook with OSX Yosemite (which prints de_DE.UTF-8 as value of $LANG in Terminal) and VmWare Fusion 7 I have installed CentOS 6.6 minimal. When I ssh to my new VM as root, the $LANG is de_DE.UTF-8 too. I would like it to be en_US.UTF-8 instead. I have grepped /etc and /root for "de_DE", but nothing is found there. Grepping for LANG in /etc gives many results, esp. /etc/sysconfig/i18n contains: LANG="en_US.UTF-8" SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16" So where does the change to de_DE happen and what is the best spot in CentOS 6 to set that to en_US.UTF-8 (I understand that I could set LANG in /root/.bash_profile but am looking for a better place to do that). I sometimes receive e-mails I post to this list, like I did the bug I reported about X problems, but other times not, like my first post about that before I reported the bug. That one appeared in gmane, but Evolution never picked it up. And today I've not seen either of my posts but I know it got there because I did see a reply to my post about the flash plugin and it had a snippet of my post init. I've looked at all the seetings I can think of and nothing struck me as suppressing my own. I use gmail and ISTR a discussion recently about some issues with that. Anyone got a clue(bat) for me? I just saw this: https://ics-cert.us-cert.gov/advisories/ICSA-14-353-01 which includes this: " A remote attacker can send a carefully crafted packet that can overflow a stack buffer and potentially allow malicious code to be executed with the privilege level of the ntpd process. All NTP4 releases before 4.2.8 are vulnerable." "This vulnerability is resolved with NTP-stable4.2.8 on December 19, 2014." I guess no one has had time to respond yet. Wonder if I should shut down my external NTP services as a precaution? --Bill

Asymmetric encryption for very large tar file

Hello CentOS list, I have a requirement that I need to use encryption technology to encrypt very large tar file on a daily basis. The tar file is over 250G size and those are data backup. Every night the server generated a 250G data backup and it¹s tar¹ed into one tarball file. I want to encrypt this big tarball file. So far I have tried two technologies with no success. 1) generating RSA 2048 public/private key pair via ³openssl req -x509 -nodes -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout private.pem -out public.pem² command and uses the public key to encrypt the big tar file. The encryption command I used is "openssl smime -encrypt -aes256 -in backup.tar -binary -outform DEM -out backup.tar.ssl public.pem². The resulting backup.tar.ssl file is only 2G then encryption process stops there and refuse to do more. Cannot get around 2G. 2) generating GPG public/private key pair via ³gpg ‹gen-key² then encrypt with "gpg -e -u "backup" -r "backup² backup.tar². However, the gpg encryption stops at file size 50G and refuse to do more and the gpg process took over 48 hours. The server is very capable. It¹s 8 CPU Intel 2.33 GHz 16G RAM installing latest RHEL 5.11. Thought CentOS 5 is pretty much compatible in release with RHEL 5. I have searched google and found out a technique that utilizes the symmetric encryption. Then it needs to generate a symmetric key every day and uses public/private key pair to encrypt the symmetric key. However the drawback is that we don¹t know how to manage the symmetric key securely. We can¹t leave the un-encrypted symmetric key there on the server but we have to use the un-encrypted symmetric key for encryption process. Plus we¹ll need to manage the symmetric encryption key, public and private key pair 3 things securely. Has anyone had experience on managing the asymmetric encryption for very large file and what¹s the best practice for that? Thanks. - xinhuan

How to configure xguest Firefox home page

I've installed CentOS 6.6 on a workstation at a local non-profit as a kiosk machine. I used xguest. Works great, except now the customer wants the Firefox homepage to be one pointing to a particular site. Doesn't seem to be much documentation on how to make minor changes to the account. Lots of SELinux guidance, but nothing about default home page, etc. Dave

Hello, Thanks for all feedback I got. I am pretty sure that if I used ³openssl enc² method, it is able to handle large file over 250g size perfectly. I think openssl installed on the system is capable of doing large file support. However, when using ³openssl smime², it is not able to. Apparently it¹s smime method limitations, not the openssl. Other than smime and enc, what other methods can I use for large file support that would use the asymmetric public/private keys? - xinhuan

One-time reboot into alternate kernel?

Apologies if this should be well-known, but I couldn't find anything! Situation: a system in a remote location, with no KVM, IPMI or iLO, and therefore no console access, only ssh. Multiple kernels listed in grub.conf. Is there a way to reboot temporarily into one of the other kernels listed in grub.conf, without changing the default= line, so that a subsequent reboot will default back to the original kernel? The problem I have is that having changed the default= line to select a kernel that doesn't boot properly, I need to have someone visit the console in order manually to select the working kernel again. Hi I had a two repo for cento6 where I can download httpd 2.2.29, (baseurl=http://centos.alt.ru/repository/centos/6/$basearch/) and baseurl=http://mirror.fserver.ru/centos-repo/6/$basearch For now this repo is not active, any other repo have 2.2.29 rpm which I can add to my repo....

Hi, On an internal webserver (latest C6) I want smb-access to /var/www/html/ In april I did chcon -R -t public_content_rw_t /var/www/html/ setsebool -P allow_smbd_anon_write 1 setsebool -P allow_httpd_anon_write 1 echo "/var/www/html/ -- unconfined_u:object_r:public_content_rw_t:s0" >> /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts After the latest round of updates (including selinux-policy.noarch 0:3.7.19-260.el6_6.1 and selinux-policy-targeted.noarch 0:3.7.19-260.el6_6.1) samba-access to /var/www/html was denied. Applying the commands above re-enabled samba-access. Anyone knows how I can configure selinux to remeber this after an update to the policies? Thanks Patrick

NVIDIA dropping support for older hardware (G8xxx, G9xxx and GT2xx chipsets)

Hi all, I just wanted to give a heads up to any NVIDIA users that NVIDIA are dropping support for older hardware based on G8xxx, G9xxx and GT2xx chipsets in their latest display drivers. The last version to support these older chipsets will be the current Long Lived 340.xx branch. If anyone is using NVIDIA driver packages from elrepo, legacy 340.xx driver packages are now available for those affected. There is a thread on the elrepo mailing list here: http://lists.elrepo.org/pipermail/elrepo/2014-September/002362.html http://lists.elrepo.org/pipermail/elrepo/2014-December/002447.html There is also an updated version of nvidia-detect (v343.36) available which will tell users if they are affected and need to switch to the new 340.xx legacy driver packages or whether their hardware will continue to be supported by future NVIDIA driver releases. Obviously we would like to avoid a situation where folks 'yum update' their drivers to a release that doesn't support their hardware and breaks their system. Thus we would like to help users who will be affected transition to the correct legacy driver now and so avoid future issues. If anyone needs any advice / help, please just ask.
