Using a "compose key" on Centos6

Hi all! I ran into a description of how to set up a compose key for F21 and decided to see if it would work on C6. Well, the right configuration dialog exists, and I can choose a key to use, but after completion, the compose key doesn't seem to work. It works like a charm on Centos-7, though. If I select Right Win as the compose key, typing <compose>ae results in "�" as I expect. but doing the same thing on Centos-6 gives me an unadorned "ae", not the ligature, but the individual characters. i.e., it doesn't do anything helpful. Since the keyboard setup dialog includes the options to define a compose key I'm going to assume it's supposed to work, and th at I'm just overlooking something. [OT} Odd tmux behaviour on exit

CentOS-6.6 tmux-1.6 (epel) Twice now I have experienced the situation where upon exiting from a tmux initiated session on a remote host instead of returning to the originating session I see this in the session terminal display: <pre> ················································································ ·································<infinite>····································· . . . <infinite lines of dots> . . . ·································<infinite>····································· ················································································ <pre> If I resize the terminal window then the dots expand to fill the available display. The scroll-back is not affected. I am unable to regain control of that terminal session from within the session itself. I am guessing that the problem is somewhere in the shutdown of pts/1. If I kill 13015 (pts/1) from the direct ssh connection then I return control of the tmux session back to the terminal and I remain logged on to the remote host. If I then exit the remote host I return to the original host as expected. Tmux is called from the original session using a function named sshtn as defined below: # declare -f sshta () { ssh "$*" -t -Y 'tmux a || tmux || /bin/bash' } sshtn () { ssh "$*" -t -Y 'tmux || /bin/bash' } Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this; and is there any way of preventing it? In this instance I had opened an X-Window application (gvim) in the remote tmux instance and had subsequently shut that down prior to exiting. Pre-packaged Python 2.7 for 32-bit CentOS 6?

Either this doesn’t exist or my Google-foo is failing me this morning. I keep coming across the Software Collections Repository (http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/SCL), but that is for 64-bit only. Before I attempt to create Python-2.7 RPMs for 32-bit CentOS 6 to install into /usr/local or /opt/python-2.7, I wonder if someone else has done this so I don’t have to re-invent the wheel. need guidance on getting started...again

Hello, It's been about 15 years since I've enjoyed working in the Unix space, and I am trying to reintegrate myself. A few things have changed in the intervening years. I've installed the first Centos6 iso without too much difficulty, but I am rusty on commands and such. It appears the install doesn't install mans so would somebody suggest a way to find and install them. It appears that there are several install package implementations. Which is the best to use? Any other helpful guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'm going with Centos 6 because I only have a 32 bit machine, otherwise I'd be up on 7, I would think. Trying to install Canon printer driver package (rpm), I get a dependency error: libusb-1.0.so.0 is needed.... The version currently installed on my 5.9 system is libusb-0.1.12-6.el5 and, AFAIK (per yum), no upgrade to that is available. So question: Do higher centos versions have libusb-1.0.so ? (We could perform a quick inventory with: uname -r; rpm -q libusb Thanks.

Howto install Centos6/7 Comcast WA/OR

Has anyone managed to install a Centos6 or Centos7 in Washington or Orgegon, or anywhere else that Comcast has deployed the IPV6to4 routers. The router in question is a Xfinity DCP3939 Router with Wireless, and I'm trying to get a Centos system working behind that router (with a wired connection), and enable SSH access from outside. Does one have to enable both IPV6 and IPV4? Can I enable IPV6 after install, or do I have to restart the installation from scratch (it has Centos6 installed via an earlier IPV4 router). How does one configure the router so that its DHCP system awards a known address to that machine, and how to forward port 22? The extra problem is that I'm trying to advise the owner of this configuration remotely. Behind that same router he has a working Windows 7 machine, and I can use Team Viewer to view the router's configuration from "inside". Any assistance would be appreciated. Comcast is of no help. Hi, I just installed a fresh CentOS 6.6 desktop. It's a client's machine, it is physically installed on a testbench in my office. Usually, when I perform installations, I start with the base system on the testbench, and once networking is configured, I SSH into it and then do all the fine-tuning remotely. My configuration files, scripts and HOWTOs are all stored in a Github repository. The problem I have with the default configuration of Git under CentOS is that GNOME "hijacks" Git's authentication process. Meaning whenever Git asks for credentials, this happens in a very ugly authentication window. But the real problem is in a remote session, where I can't use Git anymore. Here's what I get: [root@optiplex-330 ~]# git clone https://kikinovak@github.com/kikinovak/centos Initialized empty Git repository in /root/centos/.git/ (gnome-ssh-askpass:2440): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: Anyone knows how to stop this annoying behavior? I'm typing these lines on a Slackware64 14.1 + KDE installation, and when I use Git on this machine, credentials are always asked for in the terminal itself, not in a GUI popup. Centos 7 how to make second disk of RAID1 bootable

Greetings - Ok, I have my CentOS 7 KVM host system installed and I want to be able to boot the system from either installed drive if one of them fails. My objective is to have the following layout for the two 3 TB disks. sda1 /boot/efi sda2 /boot sda3 RAID1 with sdb3 sdb1 /boot/efi sdb2 /boot sdb3 RAID1 with sda3 The system is installed and boots from sda[1,2] and md127 (sda3 and sdb3). sdb[1,2] were untouched during the installation, and had been partitioned as FAT32 prior to the installation exactly the same as sda[1,2] using GParted. A GPT partition table was added to both disks before partitioning. I have done a lot of Googling over the last few days to try and understand what needs to be done, and almost everything I find is outdated in that it does not reference using grub2, and does not reference UEFI booting. I am open to reading more how-to's if someone knows of a good one that I may have missed in the 50 plus guides I have looked at. I suspect that this is really not that difficult, but the detail that I need seems to be missing in what I have read. Any responses may cc me directly as I only get the daily digest. Thanks. Hello everyone, If anyone is interested, I have created a HOWTO on running a Motorola GPS receiver connected to a CentOS 7 box via serial port (com1), with 1PPS over DCD. The trick here is that CentOS 7 uses systemd and setup was a bit different. Anyway, everything works. The result is a highly accurate NTP server, Stratum 1. httpd listening only on IPv6 interface on CentOS 7

I’ve held off reporting this since I thought it might just be some kind of fluke, but I’ve seen it now on three different boxes. The symptom is that the stock configuration of Apache only listens for IPv6 connections: $ netstat -na | grep :80.*LISTEN tcp6 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN You should see a second line there for IPv4, but you don't: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN The stock httpd.conf file just says “Listen 80” which is documented as listening on both IPv4 and IPv6. [1] You’re supposed to need to go out of your way to get it to listen on just one or the other, but somehow CentOS 7’s Apache manages it. Since I only need IPv4, I’ve managed to hack it into working by changing that line in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf to: Listen 0.0.0.0:80 Why do I need to do this? Since the most recent update of clamav I seem to be detecting more avc's. It may be that it is because I am looking for them more frequently but it seems to me that something has happened external to my control.
