Fix for RHEL BZ#771868 in CentOS?

Hey, We are blocked on a bug fixed by RHEL in https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2012-0362.html. Specifically, the splice code in sendfile() incorrectly updating the offset position on the write side, Red Hat BZ#771868. I have not been able to figure out if this bugfix is included in any CentOS releases. If you are better at reading release notes than me, could you please help me out and let me know if there's a CentOS release that includes this bugfix? Thanks, Jeff

(I think it's a dbus bug.) Michael

[OT] Searching for SNetTerm author

Our firm is constrained by the requirements of an upstream VAN to use a software package called SNetTerm; an MS-Windows based enhanced SSH communications program. SNetTerm is from a corporation called InterSoft International, Inc. This firm's web site was last accessible in June 2014 and is now 'Under Construction' (in much the same way as restaurants are 'Under Renovation' I suspect). I have tried tracking down an email address but everything to do with InterSoft International, Inc. appears out of date. The phone number I have has been disconnected. So, I have little hope of getting any response from the business. However, the author of SNEtTerm is/was Kenneth Robinette. I cannot seem track him down on LinkedIn or FB (the one profile I found that appeared promising has been locked from viewing). So, in desperation, I am asking if anyone has any lead to contacting this person and can either provided it directly to me or contact Mr. Robinette and have him contact me then I would be greatly appreciative. If anyone has any information respecting the fate of InterSoft International, Inc. and their products then I would appreciate if you would sshare that as well. CentOS6 gvfs disk thrashing

We recently started upgrading users' workstations to CentOS6. Now we've come across an interesting issue: ~user/.local/share/gvfs-metadata is filling up with tons of files. Once there are around 69270 of them, no more are being created, and the NetApp filer the user's home is on logs: Directory ..../user/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/ reached the maxdirsize limit. Reduce the number of files or use the vol options command to increase this limit.. Nearly all of the files are exactly 32k in size and they are named .openXXXXXX. All of them are being created within the same range of timestamps, with a time that's in the past. Nvidia, vncserver, >> xfce = Resolved Issue

The suggestion from Marco to try a non-3D DE worked. I tried two methods: 1. minimal Centos 7 install and xfce install via CLI. Worked fine. 2. Gnome Centos 7 install and then xfce install via yum groupinstall. Worked fine. One tip for anyone doing this: After starting vncserver the first time, it creates a ~/.vnc/xstartup file. This will be the same type of session if you logged in locally. Edit that file so that it contains the following: #!/bin/sh exec /bin/sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc Then it will start up an xfce session. A method to debug this is to actually launch the session on the host by running the xstartup file. If it works on the host it will most likely will work on the remote client. If you try this without the xstartup file mod above it will fail with the 'oh no ...' error right there in a new window on the host. It helps avoid some running around. Many thanks for the help on this. A nice side effect is that I am spending effort to install xfce on all my VMs. The performance improvement is dramatic. And mostly gone is that arduous Gnome3 DE. I really tried to use it. It's kind of OK for light work, but for any medium multi-tasking it is frustrating. Because Gnome3 requires 3D acceleration, and I'm not sure that nvidia driver would simulate 3D stuff in software (nouveau should fall back to mesa in case hardware acceleration fails --- typical of a vnc session). So my suggestion is to try KDE or XFCE or LXDE or Mate or... any other DE which doesn't require 3D features to work. The open-source radeon driver is much better supported. That said, the radeon community is not any more active or more extensive than the nouveau community. It's just that AMD has released the specs for their cards, so they have a much easier job of maintaining the radeon driver than the nouveau community (which basically needs to RE everything from scratch). system hardware discovery

Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone can advise me on how (or even if) I can trigger some of the install-time hardware discovery, specifically to rediscover the sound hardware on my motherboard. I moved a C6 installation to a new (and diffrent) motherboard several months ago. While most things went without issue, and while sound works, I have to manually change sound settings to enable the headphone jack and disable the speakers. And the reverse. Seems like it ought to discover for itself that something has been plugged into the front-panel audio output jack and adapt itself automatically. it's only a minor inconvenience,but one I'd like to fix.
