Hi, All. When I try to install php-redis, there are obvious 4 package hit the depedency. One have already INSTALLED as follow. I've GOOGLED, NOTHING help. How can I get over this? If it's of any interest, I finally solved the trac problem. Turns out you have to be granted TRAC_ADMIN to see/use the admin menus... but what is *not* suggested in anything I read is that, for those of us who might be ssh'ing into a server, and using organization-wide authentication, rather than /etc/passwd, you can't grant that to your username, but rather to username(a)organization.name ARGH!!!! And Paul, thanks for your help on the earlier parts. mark

[OT] PXE Boot / image server for non-profit's computers

This is the best collection of minds I can think of on this topic, that's why it is on this list. I think it is too subjective for stackoverflow. So here is the problem: The community center has multiple computers for the children (and adult students) to use. These computer are always donated and the hardware is all different. Currently the systems are running Windows (but this may change). Most days the systems are "hacked" by the kids and all is well, but sometimes the changes to the systems requires a reinstall. The staff are not presently qualified to diagnose any problems. Here is the draft idea: 1. Have a CentOS image / PXE server. 2. Make a (bootable) utility CD that: * has a program to "save" the state of the computer to the image server * on boot gives an option to re-image the computer * has a (boot-time or OS) diagnostic program to check network connectivity to the image server 3. Hi, I have a Sitecom NL-031 USB 3.0 NIC which I'd like to use under centos 6.5, but unfortunately I see no support. Or, I am doing something wrong. According to LKDDb (Linux Kernel Driver DataBase), the correct driver is "CONFIG_USB_NET_AX8817X: ASIX AX88xxx Based USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapters" but obviously, I've grabbed a non matching "iProduct", because mine is obviously 0x0072 (see lsusb below) and the driver lists 0x0056. Hi All. I have a server which uses RAID10 made of 4 partitions for / and boots from it. So I think that by default in my case: /dev/sda6 and /dev/sdb6 form the first "raid1" /dev/sdd6 and /dev/sdc6 form the second "raid1" So is it so that if I fail/remove for example: - /dev/sdb6 and /dev/sdc6 (different "raid1's") - the raid10 will be usable/data will be ok? - /dev/sda6 and /dev/sdb6 (the same "raid1") - the raid10 will be not usable/data will be lost? I read in context of raid10 about replicas of data (2 by default) and the data layout (near/far/offset). I see in the output of mdadm -D the line "Layout : near=2, far=1" and am not sure which layout is exactly used and how it influences data layout/distribution in my case :| I would really appreciate a definite answer which partitions I can remove and which I cannot remove at the same time because I need to perform some disk maintenance tasks on this raid10 array. Ok....so after installing "smartmontools" on my CentOS machine...and connectiing this drive externally...i got positive reports from both the short and long tests...so the drive can obviously be "seen"....but when I look for it in the /dev/ directory...it doesn't show up.....I'm about to give the fdisk command line tools anonther shot....it allows me to format the drive...and to give it a file system...(ext4)....but it doesn't automaticcaly mount, nor can I format the drive using the Disk Utility in CEntOS.....I'm going to give D.B.A.N one more try since I was able to format it from the smartctl command line....hopefully it will "clear" whaever is locked up. if not...then I'll move onto the other recommendations and advice given by you "experts"! I'm posting from my phone, so I have no choice but to top post. I have run across an issue like this. I have noticed the drives make a clicking noise if they are in an enclosure. I have then taken them out and they were perfectly fine. I found that the controller card in the enclosure was bad and not the hard drive. HDD Problem....

Ok so I have a 500GB WD "Blue Scorpion" HDD that I'm trying to access via USB, when I boot up my CentOS laptop the lights on the external USB casing light up...and I can hear the drive making noise, but after a few minutes I hear an abrupt "click" and the drive doesn't do anything. I can SEE it in the Disk Utility in CentOS,...I even tried to format it from there as well and the symptoms are still the same. CentOS 6.4 installation fails with message "No usable disks have been found"

Hi folks, I inherited a very old computer (I guess about 8 years old) which I'd like to use for some training on CentOS. I downloaded images for CentOS 6.4 i386 (DVD 1 and 2) and burned them onto discs. After inserting DVD 1 into drive and booting, on the "Welcome to CentOS 6.4!" screen I select "Install or upgrade an existing system". I then skip the media test and start the installation. Then I get a graphical installer where I choose english language and U.S. international keyboard layout. Then I'm questioned about "What type of devices will your installation involve"? where I select "Basic Storage Devices" and then proceed. I get a dialog "Examining devices" with the message "Examining storage devices". After a short while a dialog "No disks found" appears displaying the message "No usable disks have been found". I then go back and choose "Specialized Storage Devices" but I then get the same result (no devices are found). Just to be sure that there are disks available and hardware works I installed a current Debian which works fine. From the BIOS and from Debian shell command "dmesg | grep -i ata" I see that there are two "Maxtor 6Y120L0" installed. Find output of "dmsg" below that email. Is it possible and what steps are necessary to install CentOS 6.4 on that "Maxtor 6Y120L0" hard disks? trac, agilo plugin, rpm, aughghgh!!!

CentOS 6.5, with the current trac, and trac-agilo-plugin. I seem to have problems, and maybe even a bug in the packaging. I installed and got trac running with authentication. Fine. I installed and enabled the agilo plugin. Supposedly fine. Except it doesn't work. On the trac web pages, in the upper right, there's a text link labelled "admin"... but when I mouse over it, what I see in firefox is the path to the cgi/undefined. Undefined? If I search on how to activate the agilo plugin, it tells me to click on the admin icon on the toolbar... but there isn't any such. Finally, on the information I found with *much* googling, it mentions that to enable plugins, I might need to set PYTHON_EGG_CACHE. Now, the rpm installed it under /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/, and I see agilo, and agilo-0.9.7-py2.6.egg-info, and agilo_lib, and there's no egg per se. Is there a but with the trac package, that something's missing, or am I missing something? And what do I do with about the egg? mark "looks like Humpty Dumpty's got a problem"

Centos for Interested Children

Today, an enthusiastic 10 year old boy asked me about Linux. I thought of telling me to go to centos.org but then realised there is nothing on centos.org for complete beginners to Linux or for children. If anyone has the time, energy and interest, perhaps a basic technical introduction to the Centos version of Linux would be a good long-term objective. Let's catch the children's interest, imagination and enthusiasm before they become immersed and entrapped in a Micro$oft-only world. Centos is for everyone including granddads and children. Chromium 31.0.1650.63-2.el6 for CentOS 6

All, As has already been brought up, we have not yet been able to build the new version of Chromium-32 for CentOS, and the current version (31.0.1650.63-1.el6) needs updating. We have also recently been informed that we may not redistribute the PepperFlash Library from the Google site (libpepflashplayer.so) as we did in 31.0.1650.63-1.el6. Therefore, I have had to rebuild the currently released version to remove the libpepflashplayer.so library. What this means for all Chromium users is that after upgrade, you will no longer have built in flash. I apologize for the inconvenience, but we have no real choice in the matter. While the CentOS team can not redistribute that library, end users can still get it ... here is how: 1. Become root and create a temporary working directory to download the package .. I recommend /tmp/working/ mkdir /tmp/working/ cd /tmp/working/ 2. Get the latest google chrome rpm from google for your arch (either x86_64 or i386): wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm (or if needing the 32bit version, substitute i386 for x86_64 in the above path) 3. Extract the RPM using this command: rpm2cpio google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm | cpio -idv (again, substitute i386 for x86_64 if required) 4. Create the PepperFlash directory where the library will live: mkdir /opt/chromium-browser/PepperFlash/ 5. Copy the chome PepperFlash library and json file to the new directory: cp opt/google/chrome/PepperFlash/* /opt/chromium-browser/PepperFlash/ 6. Restart chromium and test that flash works. So, the other admin I work with comes by, and we're both using kde, and he asks me to to go the start menu, and fire up kwalletmanager. I do... and nothing happens. ps tells me it's running, but there is no window. What's supposed to happen? This is 6.5 mark "don't use it, anyway, but...."

I'm interested in ruby and I try the ruby193 SCL and I want to run Ruby on Rails with Apache, so I'm searching mod_passenger for this ruby SCL version, but I found, that this package is not in this SCL. It also had issues with respect to SELinux that as far as I know remain unresolved. I know that Dan Walsh was working hard with the Phusion team to deal with this but it seemed to me at that time that both sides were considerably distant from an agreement with Phusion at one point basically telling RedHat to fork their project and call it something else. Whether or not this is the reason that the Software Collection does not have an rpm for mod_passenger I cannot say. However, given that support for 1.9.3 ends next January and that Ruby is already at 2.1.1 I suggest that perhaps you are better off building your own Ruby from source and packaging it as a custom rpm. I provided a working spec file and somewhat detailed instructions for building Ruby-1.9.3 at http://byrnejb.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/building-ruby-1-9-3-for-centos-6-3/. You can trivially modify this for 2.1.0 (skip 2.1.1 which has a problem with objects inheriting from Hash - a big problem if you are employing Rails) to build your own package and then use Rubygems to install mod-passenger. You can also package mod_passenger as an rpm should you desire. I do not bother with repackaging gems, although perhaps I should so as to avoid loading development packages on production servers. Alternatively, you can use a Ruby version manager instead of using the system Ruby. On the use of rbenv or rvm I have mixed feelings. Both ruby version managers offer a valuable work-around for environments where system admin is not under the direction of the development team. For production deployments I found that there were other issues which made selection of rvm or rbenv problematic, notably in the deploy process itself and in the brittleness that resulted. I concluded after several incidents involving rvm deploys (not the fault of rvm by the way) that a package managed system really needs to remain a package managed system for ease and efficiency in maintenance. Of course, if you are deploying to a shared hosting arrangement where the production environment is not under your control then rvm or something much like it is unavoidable. write barrier support in CentOS 6

Hi, I've been looking for an answer to this question and can't find anything concrete that says full support for write barriers has been backported to the stock kernel. I've read that: "There is incomplete write barrier support in kernel versions 2.6.32 and earlier (2.6.31 has some support, while 2.6.33 works for all types of device target) - RHEL 6 uses 2.6.32." Now, I understand that Red Hat (and therefore CentOS) backport many upstream features into the stock kernel so how can I be sure that kernel 2.6.32-431.11.2.el6 has write barrier support? Any clues, anyone? Setup a devel environment for perl modules

Hi all, This is an interesting thread: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2014-April/141871.html about the problems you can find building perl modules for CentOS releases (new or old). I agree with John R. Pierce: cpan is very very bad tool ( in fact, I hate it) to build perl modules for CentOS systems, breaks all other perl modules. I need to use several perl modules in several servers in my dept. and after some tests, I migrate to FreeBSD due to easy install perl modules with poudriere suite. But, anyone knows if it is possible to build a confident devel environment under CentOS with some tool to build rpm's perl modules without breaking anything in CentOS systems?? Maybe, it is a good idea to create a CentOS Perl SIG :)) Thanks.

random crashes

I have a server thats been running fine for a year or two lock up a few times recently, requiring power cycling. The /var/log/messages after a lockup last night is appended to this message. hardware is a pretty typical server, Supermicro X8DTE-F motherboard, dual Xeon X5650, 48GB ECC memory, LSI SAS 2008 for the boot disks, and LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i for the data volume. Lots of 3TB disks in a raid60. Primary application is BackupPC v3.3.0 (from EPEL), it also has an NFS export (also used for backup purposes). Runs CentOS 6.latest (kernel 2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.x86_64). X is not loaded (inittab level 3). selinux is permissive, iptables is not loaded. this server is on a corporate internal network, 1 Intel 82574L NIC configured with static IP, 2nd one is not in use. any clues what to try? I'm hesitant to enable irqpoll as I hear that it is a real performance sucker. OT: trac problems

I installed trac. I installed trac-agilo-plugin. Set it up (allegedly). I've made myself an admin. But: I can search in trac for agilo, I find a quick start guide... and it tells me to click the admin button on the toolbar. I don't see any. If I click the admin in the upper right, I get a file not found! I also note that the trac-agilo-plugin installs, among many other files, /usr/bin/create_agilo_project, but I don't know what it does (why would you write a manpage, I mean, really?) And no, doing a search inside of trac finds zip on that command. Clues? Clues for the poor? mark

Booting OpenBSD with pxelinux

I've got PXE/TFTP setup for various Linux distributions and some utilities (clonezilla, dban, etc). I'm now starting in on OpenBSD. As far as I've been able to figure out via internet searches, pxelinux (from the syslinux package) is unable to pass control of a machine directly to a BSD kernel. Instead, you have to use the BSD-supplied 'pxeboot' loader. The naming conventions enforced by pxelinux mean that pxeboot must be called pxeboot.0. Here's a simplified view of my tftpboot directory: etc/ `-- boot.conf images/openbsd/ `-- 5.4 | -- amd64 | | -- bsd | `-- pxeboot.0 `-- i386 | -- bsd `-- pxeboot.0 And here's a relevent snippet of my PXE menu file: LABEL openbsd-5.4.amd64 MENU LABEL OpenBSD 5.4 amd64 KERNEL images/openbsd/5.4/amd64/pxeboot.0 So far so good. If I boot the image listed above, I get the BSD boot loader -- but, and this is the crux of my question, afaict I have to type the location of the actual kernel manually: boot> boot images/openbsd/5.4/amd64/bsd After I type that, the OpenBSD installation kernel boots without a hitch. But manually typing the kernel path is prone to error, and it's not scriptable. It appears that you can have one (and only one!) boot.conf file from which pxeboot can get some directions. Since I want to be able to serve up at least two different images (32- and 64-bits), I can't specify a kernel in boot.conf. The best I can do is print a banner, e.g., echo ********************************************************** echo The OpenBSD pxeboot utility cannot be passed an alterative echo kernel path. So you'll have to issue one of the following echo commands manually from the boot> prompt: echo echo boot images/openbsd/5.4/amd64/bsd echo boot images/openbsd/5.4/i386/bsd echo ********************************************************** My question: Does anyone else know a better way? trouble installing Math::BigInt module

I had to move a perl script from an old server to a new one. Both the old and new servers are running "CentOS release 5.10 (Final)" and perl v5.8.8. (But the problem I'm running into appears to be a package management problem and not a Perl problem which is why I'm posting it to a CentOS list.) The line of code in the script that attempts to open a Net::SFTP connection, which was working fine on the old machine, no longer works on the new machine. I've tracked it down to the module Net::SSH::Perl::Key::DSA not loading correctly on the new machine. As far as I can tell, the reason the error occurs on the new server but not on the old server, is because on the old server the place that Math::BigInt is loaded is in the file /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Net/IP.pm which contains the line: use Math::BigInt; whereas on the new server, Math::BigInt is loaded in the file /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Crypt/DSA/KeyChain.pm which contains the line: use Math::BigInt 1.78 try => 'GMP, Pari'; However, that's where my "expertise", such as it is, runs out. I have no idea why the two machines even attempt to load Math::BigInt in two different ways since I don't remember installing things differently on them. I would like to fix the problem on the new machine in the cleanest possible way (i.e., not just commenting out the "1.78" in the line "use Math::BigInt 1.78" -- I don't think that would be the "clean" solution!). On my computer with dual systems(win7+centos6.4(now 6.5), after I do something, problems came out: when I plug portable hard disk into my computer, It is not mounted successfully. Adding a new disk to an existing raid 10

Dear all, I'm not used to handling software raid. I've inherited a server which has raid 10 set. one of our disks failed, and it's to be replaced today. My question is; any hint how to add this new disk to the existing raid array ? first thought is :- Create identical partitions as other disks in the array i'd like to add it to.- add it to raid. Though i'm extremely worried of messing things up and wiping all my data. Any hint would be appreciated
