plug in phones, speaker does not mute.

Hi all! Using C6 on an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard with AMD six core FX6300. That board uses Realtek ALC892 audio chipset. For the first time since I got that motherboard I tried plugging in headphones to the front panel speaker output. I was somewhat displeased to note that the speakers don't mute when that happens. I recall seeing info on that in Fedora, but not Centos, and haven't so far scared up how to troubleshoot it. I can MANUALLY change the setting in sound preferences, which offers only two choices: "Analog Output" and "Analog Headphones". Suggestions will be welcomed! 0006698: CentOS is missing libnetfilter queue related packages

I am working with HIP for Linux: http://infrahip.hiit.fi/ We are looking to some major server support on currently Centos 6 cloud images. Problem is for other distros, hipl has moved on to libnetfilter_queue which is not supported in Centos 6. See: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6698 How can we get this as part of the standard install and maintained libs? thank you.

License question: centos-indexhtml

Hi, and sorry to bug you all for something so simple: The project in which I am working would like to use CentOS, but it has very strict requirements regarding licensing. The item that I have had trouble with is centos-indexhtml-6-1.el6.centos.src.rpm. Within it, the License is only identified as 'distributable', which is not precise enough. Is there any way of contacting the author of said package, or does anyone have any clues as to what does distributable mean exactly? (preferably with references somewhere in the CentOS distribution) -Joe

su command

I am running pulseaudio on centOS 6.5 audio works fine as the user. running the command aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav works fine. when I login as root and run the command su user -c "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" it does not work. I thought su actually runs as that user... is there some "magic" to su I don't know about? How might I get that to work ? Thanks, jerry

RHEL7 beta discussions?

Where would be an appropriate place to get help with the quirks of RHEL7 beta, particularly GUI usability issues? Gnome3 won't work under x2go, so I'm trying to use KDE but can't believe that anyone actually uses borderless windows where you can't tell where you are clicking near the edges, grey-background terminals or the default font set. Try using "su -" to get a login shell. For example: # su - user -c pwd /home/user # su user -c pwd /root You are trying to run pulseaudio in root's environment with the user's permissions. Format big drives (4TB) in the installer?

Hi all; I cross posted this to the fedora list since we use Fedora as a test bed from time to time, however given this is a production server we'll likely be running CentOS. we've just ordered a new server (http://www.spectrumservers.com/ssproducts/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=26&idpr…) Originally I tried to simply upgrade an older server with more drive space, I installed six (6) 4TB drives and did a new CentOS 6.5 install but the OS would not allow me to configure more than 2TB per drive. Subsequent research leads me to conclude that if the bios supports UEFI and the installer boots as such then the installer should see 4TB drives without any issues. I'm also assuming that any server I order today (i.e. a more modern server) should ship with UEFI support in the bios. Are my conclusions above per UEFI correct? Thanks in advance

NFS4 idmap question

HTTPD on some of my CentOS5 systems is configured to run as user "nobody". Also, it needs access to some exported file systems. CentOS5 uses NFS3 so I changed the ownership of the files on the storage server to "nobody" to give httpd full permissions. Now I want to rebuild these systems with CentOS6 and httpd running as user "apache". The problem is how to give access to the NFS exports to these new servers while the old ones are still using the same exports. CentOS6 uses NFS4 so I was thinking to use idmap and statically map user "nobody" to local user "apache" but I can't seem to get it working. I wonder is it even possible considering that user "nobody" is a system type user? Any better ideas what I can do to give user nobody on CentOS5 and user apache on CentOS6 full access to the same NFS exported directories locally owned by user nobody? Thank you, -- Peter
