Minimum RAM for CentOS7

Just FYI: I had several problems to install CentOS 7 with 512 MB RAM. No log showed me that problem (I would expect a system check before). With 1 GB RAM everything runs fine. Don't know, what they do with more than 512 MB RAM on a text only system during installation ... Best Regards Oli

Is Centos team going to publish a correct version of php-mcrypt via yum? Centos 6.5 and now 7 is out but no php-mcrypt. php-mcrypt is used by lots of applications. and the one from EPEL repository is buggy and sometimes makes my server crash.

Could not resolve host: mirror.centos.org

There seems to be a problem with my local dns server resolving mirror.centos.org. I know something about dns but obviously not enough to figure out what might be wrong here or how to fix this in bind configs. The SERVFAIL errors below seem to be related to AAAA and MX queries for the domain. Please advise. installing Desktop faster

Hi there, I installed centos 7 -- it works great. What made me think is that installation took 1300 packages for a Desktop with some add-ons. As usual, there might be a solution for this already but I do not know it. Would it be possible to create one big package for a standard Desktop? Then an installation would not take ages. - Gergely

Systemd sessions

*very* ugly mdadm issue

We have a machine that's a distro mirror - a *lot* of data, not just CentOS. We had the data on /dev/sdc. I added another drive, /dev/sdd, and created that as /dev/md4, with --missing, made an ext4 filesystem on it, and rsync'd everything from /dev/sdc. Note that we did this on *raw*, unpartitioned drives (not my idea). I then umounted /dev/sdc, and mounted /dev/md4, and it looked fine; I added /dev/sdc to /dev/md4, and it started rebuilding. Then I was told to reboot it, right after the rebuild started. I don't know if that was the problem. At any rate, it came back up... and /dev/sdc is on as /dev/md127, and no /dev/md4, nothing in /etc/mdadm.conf, and, oh, yes, mdadm -A /dev/md4 /dev/sdd mdadm: Cannot assemble mbr metadata on /dev/sdd mdadm: /dev/sdd has no superblock - assembly aborted Oh, and mdadm -E /dev/sdd /dev/sdd: MBR Magic : aa55 Partition[0] : 4294967295 sectors at 1 (type ee) ee? A quick google says that indicates a legacy MBR, followed by an EFI.... I *REALLY* don't want to loose all that data. Any ideas? mark

That's problem. AHCI is the standard for SATA, running modern SATA drives, especially SSD require the AHCI command structure. [CentOS7] switching workspace on external monitor

Hi, I just installed CentOS 7 on my NB and I'm experiencing problem during switching the workspace in GNOME3 environment. The workspace on my NB display is working correctly after change from one workspace to another. But the windows placed on the external/second display stay on the active workspace. I found the description and solution of this problem here: http://gregcor.com/2011/05/07/fix-dual-monitors-in-gnome-3-aka-my-workspace… but I can't find the key "workspaces_only_on_primary" in my installation. Does anybody have a tip for solving this problem? Thanks martin
