Thunderbird randomly segfaults at startup

Anyone else seeing this? This is happening on a straight "Desktop" install of CentOS 6.6 fully updated. I have made no changes other than installing Thunderbird. Thunderbird will occasionally (10 to 20% of the time) fail to start, and the abrt report indicates a signal 11 (SIGSEGV). I don't see any other reports of this. Is no one using Thunderbird these days? Do abrt reports submitted from CentOS go anywhere useful these days? I saw some discussion a while back, but don't recall the results. logrotate script not working

Hey guys, Got a quick question and I hope this is an easy one! In my /etc/logrotate.conf file I have the following entry: # rotate all of the apache logs -- we'll rotate them here /var/log/mysqld.log { weekly size 50M create 0644 mysql mysql rotate 1 } And from that I would expect the log to rotate when it reaches 50M in size. However I just caught that log weighing in at 356MB!! So how can I get this log file to rotate when it hits 50MB? Any ideas, advice and help at all would be appreciated. Intel NUC? Any experience

Folks The price point of Intel's NUC unit makes it attractive to use as a server that doesn't have significant computational load. In my environment, a USB connected hard-drive could provide all the storage needed. I wonder if anyone has had experience with it, and can answer: 1) Does Centos6 and/or Centos7 install from a USB connected optical drive? or a USB flash drive? I'd prefer to do a NetInstall. If the answer is essentially no, there's no point in continuing. 2) Is the Ethernet connection supported by NetInstall and the subsequent OS? 3) Is it possible to add an additional NIC for possible use as a home router/gateway? If not internally, then via a USB connected NIC? Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. David San Francisco

LVM - pvmove and multiple servers

Hi All. Looking for some guidance/experience with LVM and pvmove. I have a LUN/PV being presented from a iscsi SAN. The LUN/PV is presented to 5 servers as a shared VG they all have LV's they use for data, they are all connected via iSCSI. As the SAN I am using is being replaced I need to move onto a new unit. My migration strategy at this time is to 1. Present a new LUN from the new SAN to all machines. 2. Make a PV with the new LUN. 3. Add it to the existing VG. 4. Use pvmove to move all the data from one PV to another. 5. Once the old LUN is empty, complete a pvresize to remove the old LUN. This all seems sound but looking for advice, specifically around the fact that the VG/PV data is being used by a number of machines/servers and the LV's are active on a number of different nodes. All the documentation/examples I can find assume a disk in a server, not a LUN on a SAN being shared by a number of servers. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Daniel

Most here also seem to be somewhat concerned with concepts of cost and benefit. It is evident in many posts that the increasing costs of supporting large numbers of people negatively impacted by changes introduced to CentOS from outside of their span of control is beginning to impinge more and more upon decision making. In some cases that consideration is evidently influencing the decision to deploy CentOS or not. Now, what does the subscriber base to Fedora developers list look like? Well, to begin with there are no fewer than 209 official 'Fedora' lists. Which should one join to 'influence' anything? Let us grant that a number, say half, are self-evidently not of great concern to operational deployment and employment of RHEL, CentOS or SL in the Enterprise environment. The oddly named 'UK-Ambassadors' or the narrowly focused language translation mailing lists for instance. That still leaves in excess of a hundred lists. Where should one apply pressure? What forum exists to discuss the economic costs to Enterprises of introducing a marginal, possibly questionable, improvement to an existing UI or common utility? The devel list? The users list? A perusal of the contents of both the Fedora devel list and users list does not give one much hope that such a point of view would be tolerated, much less welcomed. For example, one the the notable contributors to those forums is himself banned from this list. Further, discussions tend to be far, far down in the weeds, if not subterranean altogether, when viewed from the perspective of the question: what is this change, improvement, alteration or deprecation going to cost the installed base to implement? No, no-one presently on this list is likely to have very much of an impact on the folks that are the Fedora project. Their objectives are far removed from the concerns of those tasked to keep automated systems working and invisible to the Enterprises that employ them. The overarching concern of the Enterprise is to employ capital and labour to produce value; and not simply to prove technologies or advance personal or political agendas. Not that the later two situations are uncommon in the Enterprise either. One might, however, consider that the CentOS list is a concentration of people that evidently have some status within a number of Enterprises. And these influential people have chosen not to pay RH for their offering. It might be of some interest to RH in determining why this is so. It might also be the case that this forum, being concerned with issues such as deployment on a large scale and the costs of upgrading RH flagship product, provides valuable insight on how RH's paying customers might be viewing their product as well. After all, because we use CentOS rather than RHEL and forgo the provision of RH's expert advice, then we ourselves and our organisations are a self-identified technologically advanced user community. And we are concerned more with the entire package than with any particular component or detail. If we have concerns and reservations then perhaps RH should have concerns. If we express them here then there is a chance, a small chance but a chance nonetheless, that someone at RH with a view a little broader than that evidenced in most of the traffic on the Fedora devel list, might take notice. Camera doesn't works after "yum upgrade"

Hi, I've launched a "yum upgrade" command on a CentOS6 laptop which has updated nearly 600 packages. Automatic updates were not working because of a conflict on a package. So the laptop is now uptodate but the camera did not works after this. The message is: kernel: uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_DEF) UVC control 6 on unit 2: -110 (exp. 2). The camera is detected as USB, lsusb shows: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0c45:646b Microdia I've tryed to boot on alternative kernels but no change: - vmlinuz-2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.centos.plus.x86_64 (which solve a camera problem on my laptop) - vmlinuz-2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64 - vmlinuz-3.10.63-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64 Any idea about a faulty package ? I've added the upgrade log in attachment but it's quite big. The first four erased item were because of conflicts. Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)

Hi all! Running Centos-6.latest on an AMD six-core Vishera processor. It's been running for a year on that hardware. today I swapped out the video card (from Nvidia 9800GT to Nvidia 460 GTX) hoping to get a little more horsepower, and the ability to run the Folding At Home GPUclient. I know that's an old card, it's a hand-me-down from my son who just replaced it with a new 970 GTX card. So, I got the hardware installed, close up the case, connect all the cables, boot it up and booting stops with this message on the screen in plain text mode: Probing EDD (edd=off to disable) I can reboot and edit the kernel commandline to add "edd=off" at the end then it comes up all the way. I haven't made any changes in the Nvidia drivers, because nvidia's web site tells me it uses the same driver as the 9800GT card did. I'm using the RPMs from elrepo, so it uses akmod to do a rebuild when a new kernel is installed. But I didn't install a new kernel, so it didn't get rebuilt, and I'm wondering if that's the cause of the problem... different card works with the same driver version but may need recompiling due to the different hardware ????? If so, I don't think I know how to force akmod to do the rebuild. Thoughts/or actual knowledge on this would be appreciated. Also, among the googling I did, I found one posting that said that message means an unexpected (DOS??) interrupt occurred, but it did't help me any with how to resolve it. Your suggestions will be welcomed, thanks in advance!
