mariadb fails to start under C7

Hey all, I just unstalled MariaDB version 10 from the mariadb repositories under a CentOS 7 host. The install went fine! [root@nfsdb1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i mariadb MariaDB-common-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-server-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-client-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-shared-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 However, when I go to start up the service, I'm getting this error: [root@nfsdb1 ~]# systemctl start mariadb.service Failed to issue method call: Unit mariadb.service failed to load: No such file or directory. Centos 7 and qemu-kvm

Still trying to migrate to CentOS 7. I used to use qemu-kvm on centos 6. tried to compile on centos 7 and get error about undefined reference to timer_gettime searching for that says basically use virt-manager so I installed virt-manager - I have file images and those work. some times I do directly to a USB connected disk. I do not see how to do that in virt-manager ??? How do I use a device like /dev/sdh as my disk??? Thanks, Jerry

Best way to integrate CentOS in Windows AD environment

We currently use a combination of Kerberos and NIS to manage users on our CentOS 6 systems in a Windows AD environment. NIS is provided by Windows Services for UNIX (or something named similarly), which has some issues, and is also not going to be supported by Microsoft in the future. NIS supplies the passed file as well as the auto mount map for home directories as shown by this excerpt from our /etc/nsswitch.conf file: passwd: files nis shadow: files nis group: files nis Our systems are configured using something similar to the following in our Kickstart config file: authconfig --enablemd5 --passalgo=sha512 --enablenis —nisdomain=XXX \ --nisserver=nis.XXX.com,nis2.XXX.com --useshadow --enablekrb5 \ --krb5realm=XXX.COM --krb5kdc=ldap.XXX.com --krb5adminserver=ldap.XXX.com <http://ldap.xxx.com/> where nis1 and nis2 are the local AD domain controllers. With this configuration, any user can log into any CentOS system, and their home directory is automatically mounted over NFS with autofs. This works great, except for when the network is down and/or the home directory NFS server is not available, when the systems pretty much just hang. It’s also only good for workstations and servers, but not laptops that may not be on the network. I would like to move to CentOS 7 and a model where we don’t use NIS at all, the users and (local) home directories are automatically created on login using the UID stored on the LDAP server. Before I re-invent the wheel, has somebody done this already? If so, can you share the authconfig line from your Kickstart file? To summarize, I’d like to: Use LDAP/Kerberos provided by Windows AD servers to authenticate users Automatically create accounts/home directories upon first login Not require the system to be on the network (provided the user has logged in at least once to create the account locally) Thanks in advance for any suggestions/examples. openvpn and firewalld

I am trying to build a new openvpn server based on CentOS7. Everything is working fine as long as I disable firewalld. With firewalld enabled, I can connect to the vpn and ping the machines on the network, but I am unable to ssh to them. What I had on my old server with iptables was two simple rules: -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s <localnet>/255.255.0.0 -d <vpnnet>/255.255.0.0 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s <vpnnet>/255.255.0.0 -d <localnet>/255.255.0.0 -j ACCEPT This allowed all traffic to flow between my vpn subnet and the local network. How can I duplicate this behavior with firewalld? I even tried using the --direct option to put in these same rules without success. Although I may not have done it quite right -- firewalld seems to have added 20 extra chains to the rule structure and I'm not sure exactly where I should put these rules. Unfortunately, I cannot easily debug this while I'm at the office, but if you can give me any suggestions, I can try them out when I get home tonight. Thanks! -- Bowie

More specifically -- when you get the "not found" in the browser there should be an entry logged in the error log. E.g., tail the error log, issue a request, and see what you see. The error log entry will show the details of what is being requested and generally gives strong hints as to why it can't be found (pathing, access, etc.). If you don't get an entry in the error log that you are looking at then double check your configuration to make certain you are are looking at the one for the apache instance in question. [OT] eventlog-to-syslog

My manager set me onto this (I *loathe* WinDoze, but someone's gotta do it), and I finally found out that a previous co-worker installed eventlog-to-syslog, which seems to be hosted in google code. And it *seems* to have come from Purdue Univ. So < found the readme, and wanted to cut down the verbosity. There's a startup flag for this. The log levels are: 1: critical 2: error 3: warning 4: info 0: everything/verbosity The start flag that you can give it is the "minimum" log level. And no, I did *not* write those levels out of order. Can *anyone* explain to me in what number system 0 is *not* less than 3?.... </rant> mark
