Define mandatory desktop profile for a use on CentOS 7

I've been using xguest on CentOS 6 and this uses a locked down profile that is read from /etc/sabayon/profiles/USERNAME.zip. How do I recreate this functionality on CentOS 7? All the information I'm finding about GSettings and dconf seems to apply to all users - I need to define a profile that is only applied to the dynamically created home directory for xguest. Tom

Suddenly OpenVPN not working - backgrounds prompt for username / password

Hi folks, I'm on a fresh install of CentOS 7 and take my config that works on Ubuntu on the same box. Instead of getting a prompt for username and password for the VPN I get a backgrounded task that spits this out : [amckay@centos-gig ~]$ sudo openvpn --config /home/amckay/data/vpn.ovpn --daemon Broadcast message from root@centos-gig (Sat 2015-07-25 22:59:13 EDT): Password entry required for 'Enter Auth Username:' (PID 23461). Please enter password with the systemd-tty-ask-password-agent tool! [amckay@centos-gig ~]$ I actually started having the same problem at work when trying to connect to our management network. Different config file. CentOS 7 though. Same config file works great on Ubuntu. I yum updated last Saturday. It had a new kernel. I hadn't rebooted but saw that firefox update today and did that then rebooted. My system wouldn't boot all the way with the new kernel. I went back to 3.10.0-229.7.2.el7.x86_64 and my system would boot. When I boot with the 3.10.0-229.11.x kernel. I noticed some gnome manager stuff. I thought I had the kde desktop installed for CentOS 7.1. wes

CentOS 5 grub boot problem

I am trying to upgrade my system from 500GB drives to 1TB. I was able to partition and sync the raid devices, but I cannot get the new drive to boot. This is an old system with only IDE ports. There is an added Highpoint raid card which is used only for the two extra IDE ports. I have upgraded it with a 1TB SATA drive and an IDE-SATA adapter. I did not have any problems with the system recognizing the drive or adding it to the mdraid. A short SMART test shows no errors. Grub attempts to boot, but the last thing I see after the bios is the line "GRUB Loading stage 1.5", then the screen goes black, the system speaker beeps, and the machine reboots. This will continue as long as I let it. As soon as I switch the boot drive back to the original hard drive, It boots up normally. I also tried installing grub as (hd1) with the same results. A few Google searches haven't turned up any hits with this particular problem and all of the similar problems have been with Ubuntu and grub2. Any suggestions? Thanks, -- Bowie

No firefox 38.1.1 update

I'm still not getting the firefox-38.1.1-1.el6.centos.x86_64.rpm that was announced yesterday (8 August) morning. I looked at several of the mirror sites I receive, and they all have the new firefox in their Packages directory, but their repodata is all a day older (7 August), so yum doesn't see the update. Example mirror: http://mirror.cs.uwp.edu/pub/centos/6.7/updates/x86_64/ -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address. Do NOT delete it.

whois command in c6

the whois command in c6 references whois.v6nic.net for ip addresses in the 43.0.0.0/8 range (and maybe others). v6nic is no longer a valid whois server, any nets delegated to it should instead be delegated to apnic. i have no upstream connections... this change was made in the generic sources for jwhois some time ago I see this fix was introduced in F20 here, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1121512 -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz
