libgme drive-by exploit.

An interesting exploit: https://scarybeastsecurity.blogspot.com/2016/12/redux-compromising-linux-us… While this is tailored to Fedora 25 (with Chrome) and Ubuntu 16.04, in checking my CentOS 7 system I find that it is not vulnerable simply because it doesn't have the libgme used by gstreamer-plugins-bad to make it work. However, gstreamer-plugins-bad-free is indeed installed, and is listed as an installation from anaconda, so it is on the media. I didn't specifically select it in the package set I installed. I didn't look to see if any third-party packages have it.... lessee.... nope, didn't find the 'Game Music Emu' (gstreamer-plugins-bad-extras contains this in Fedora 25) anywhere, but I reserve the right to be wrong. Now, even though C7 is not vulnerable by default, following Chris Evans' narrative on how he dug this out and made it reliably exploitable is a very good read, especially if you want to see what kind of trampoline can actually be employed by those who really are out to get us.

Looking for DirectFB 1.4.11 RPMs for 32-bit CentOS 6

Our current build process requires the directfb-1.4.11-3.el6.i686.rpm and directfb-devel-1.4.11-3.el6.i686.rpm packages, but they appear to be no longer available from the EPEL repo, and I can’t find them anywhere else either. If you have a local copy, or can point me to some other repo or web site that has these 2 RPMs, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Alfred

Problem with yum on CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511 (Core) with 3.10.0-327.36.3.el7.x86_64 kernel

Everyone, I am at a loss on this problem would appreciate some guidance as to where to start to fix it. I noticed that my home gateway server was not being updated with the new kernel and other software, and when I ran yum it aborted with the following notices. I tried a yum clean all, but this did not fix the problem. I thought the problem may be related to one of the repos, but I have other machines in the same network that update properly. I disabled all repos except the BASE to try to simply the problem and still the same problem. Any help would be appreciated. kde failing???

greetings. centos 6.8 kde 4.3.4 toshiba satellite l4550-s5976 laptop - part 1: clock losing time first noticed time was off by 8 min, reset via F2 cl terminal. ~40 min later, off by ~2 min, reset via 'service manager' by stopping ntpd, count 20, started ntpd, within a few seconds, clock reset to correct time. ~1 hour later, noticed clock off again, considered cause to be cmos battery failing. after removing ~30 screws and bottom cover, found that cmos batter was soldered to board. checked with dvom, voltage read 3.2v with main battery and charger removed. ran web search on tower box to find that cmos battery is a rechargeable 3.0 v battery and being that removing screws and cover took several minutes, with battery being up, cause must be elsewhere. note - noticed that a time problem was occurring just after tzdata update on 2016-1201. was not able to pursue further due to next problems. - part 2: unable to open knoqueror file browser [kfb]. having other things to do other than worry about time problem, decided move a few files around and give further thought to time problem before opening thunderbird to post problem. with several other kfb's open, decided to open another. not. clicking kfb icon started opening of kfb, but it shut down within a couple seconds. repeated attempt 4 more times, all failed. have previously had at least 10 kfb's open and never had a problem with opening additional. strange, thought i. decided to reboot system to see if problem cleared. now way. new problem. - part 3: kde desktop fails to run. system rebooted to default desktop manager, entered password, kde starts to load, drops out, desktop manager reruns. able to login as 'root' using kde no problem. any and all help/suggestions greatly appreciated. tia. -- The important thing is not to stop questioning. - Albert Einstein peace out. spec file frustration (rant)

I'm getting spec files from centos git which is really convenient when the related source is easy to find. But some things - e.g. from a spec file # How to create the source tarball: # # git clone git://git.fedorahosted.org/git/python-rhsm.git/ # cd client/python-rhsm # tito build --tag python-rhsm-$VERSION-$RELEASE --tgz Never used tito before, so I install it and try, and rather than giving me the source package I need - it gives me a python traceback complaining that I haven't configured some things properly. Seems a lot of the software distribution world is getting overly complex with an expectation that the end user who needs to exercise his FLOSS rights has to use git or nodejs or for php composer or whatever just to get what use to be available with no more complexity than choosing tar.gz or tar.bz2 or .zip if the dev was Windows. Whatever happened to KISS and why can't source tarballs be distributed as source tarballs? Back when I was a Fedora packager - the packaging guidelines would reject a package of the Source tarball wasn't a URL and if the timestamp on the tarball in the src.rpm didn't match upstream even if the checksum was identical. Guess those days are gone. /rant
