C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1

Hi list, I'm new with UEFI and GPT. For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap, md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the md device, partitioning it and create fs on each partition created on md device: mdadm create /dev/md0 ... fdisk /dev/md0: md0p1 swap md0p2 / xfs md0p3 /home xfs or create for each partition an md device and create the fs on mdX device directly: mdadm create /dev/md[012]..... mkfs.fs /dev/mdX (for each md device) md0 swap md1 / md2 /home I got as answer that the second solution is the correct solution. I'm installing C7 1511 on a skylake machine with UEFI and I'm confused. After googling, for my installation I must create gpt table, 1 partition with fat32 type of 512M, and 2 partition for swap and / (I've excluded /home), clone gpt partition table on second disk with sgdisk, create md device for swap and /. I've created gpt partition table with: 1) part1 512m fat32 EFI-part 2) part2 8gb raid swap 3) part3 ~500gb raid / then I've cloned gpt of sda to sdb without problem. Then I've created array md0 for swap and md1 for / and then rebooted the system. I've started installation process. During disk selection I get only one disk tagged as MDRAID disk and not sda and sdb. Selecting MDRAID disk I can't see sda1 sdb1 EFI-part, md0 and md1 devices. Going to console, cat /proc/mdstat give me only md1. If I try to start md0 mdadm says sda2: not such file or directory but the partition exists on /dev/sda. Coming back to Installer, it forces me to create partitions on MDRAID (md1) disk and I create: md1p1 EFI md1p2 swap md1p3 / Installation was performed an system booted. Now, on this machine with mbr partition type I get md0 (sda1, sdb1) and md1 (sda2, sdb2) on uefi machine with gpt I get md1 (sda, sdb). I've tried also installing with mbr before using gpt, and I got md0 (sda1, sdb1), md1(sdb2, sda2) and the other 2 partition for EFI as expected. But with mbr installer said me that It gpt was needed. Why using gpt, if I set two raid partition, create 2 raid, rebooting it gives me that md1 has sda and sdb instead sda2 and sdb2 and other md is dead? What is the correct method to install on RAID? 1 md device and create partition on it or N md devices for N partition? Why using gpt I get only one disk on disk selection (mdraid device), not the 2 physical disk, and not the 2 md raid created? Hope in help. Alessandro.

SELinux denies haproxy

Hi all, I'm load balancing 4 mysql databases using HAProxy. The setup seems to be working pretty well. Except I keep seeing these messages turning up in syslog: Mar 12 22:11:31 db1 kernel: [6058125.959624] type=1400 audit(1457820691.824:3029129): avc: denied { name_connect } for pid=801 comm="haproxy" dest=7778 scontext=system_u:system_r:haproxy_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:interwise_port_t:s0 tclass=tcp_socket It looks like SELinux is denying haproxy the ability to connect to the database. I haven't seen any real problems on the site that uses the database. But I was just wondering if this message looks familiar to anyone. Or if it looks like something I should try to correct. I tried grepping through audit.log for haproxy and piping it to audit2why, but I don't get any useful response back: [root@db1:~] #grep haproxy /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2why -M haproxy Nothing to do I'm open to your thoughts and opinions! It's more time-consuming than hard to build a virtual machine these days, and it's not even that time-consuming. Is there a distro that already has what you want all packaged up? Run it in a VM. Take a snapshot first if you want to try something potentially system-breaking or that's going to spew files everywhere. On a single-user machine, the performance should be within a few percent of running on the bare metal. So, if you test drive some beta software and it doesn't perform well on a VM, it's probably not going to be much better running on a same-spec physical machine. Ah, that was it, it's not on the screen where you put in your username, it's on the password screen. On the other hand, the easier solution was to just create /etc/sysconfig/desktop, which did not exist, and add the two lines to it. With gdm the gear only shows up if you have more than one whatever.session file in /usr/share/xsessions. gnome-classic-session and gnome-session-xsession provides this file for gnome sessions, mate-session-manager provides it for mate, and I don't know what provides it for kde. lightdm is a lot more configurable than gdm, and it's easy to use that instead: systemctl disable gdm systemctl enable lightdm systemctl isolate graphical.target Then you can easily configure /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf to do pretty much what you want it to do. It does not actually apply them. To apply them, I ssh in and run the command "yum update" and they install fast w/o me needing to wait for the download. C7 and swap

Hi list, today I've noticed a strange behaviour during system startup. This is a workstation. During mounting swap, system waits at least 90 seconds before continue. When system is loaded swap seems to be not mounted. Running free -h , it reports for swap 0 total and 0 for other values. Always during booting process, when it waits for swap mounting, it reports the uuid of swap partion. This uuid is on fstab but it is not listed under /dev/disk/by-uuid. Changing fstab with /dev/device all works good. Why I can't find swap partition in /dev/disk/by-uuid? Thanks in advance. Alessandro.

We decided to change our internet providers, but unfortunately Comcast would not allow us to drop there service without some penalties so management decided to keep the line and not put up a fight. Of the three nic cards, one card serves the local network inside the office, and the other two will connect to the two different internet lines. This has resulted in providing us with two outbound internet lines that we can use. I decided to do some experimenting to see if I could use iptables or other venues to use both outside internet addresses to augment our bandwidth. Can anyone refer me to any tutorial or give me suggestions as to how to route outbound ssh traffic that is generated from one of the machines inside the network through only one of the specified nic cards on the gateway. I would like to see if I can utilize this extra band width by splitting ssh traffic and html traffic. Essentially, I would like to force outbound ssh traffic on only one of the outside nic cards. In the case of a FF add-on, the author and probably Mozilla. RH doesn't distribute FF add-ons so they aren't primary on something like this, especially if the bug isn't OS/RHEL specific. You might want to check to see if it's still an issue with the current FF (45), which can be gotten from their release site: <http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/> The linux packages can be unpacked and run from user space, so you don't impact your your system installed release.

greets. tho this is off-topic for this list, it is still a bug that centos users along with all users of firefox should be aware of. due to nature of bug and what is involved, i believe it safer to not go into great details in an open list. never know which 'hats' are subscribed to support list. :-D so my question is just who should i inform of problem? mozilla.org? author of add-on? cve.mitre.org? all 3? tia. -- peace out.
