HFSPlus Question

In CentOS 7.2.1511 does the 3.10.0-327.18.2.el7.centos.plus.x86_64 (Plus) kernel read HFSPlus iMac drives? I don't see any hfsplus modules installed anywhere, so I suspect not. My sister's 17" iMac died, and I'm trying to recover the drive. If it spins up, I'd like to copy it with dd. I see that Elrepo has kmod-hfsplus and hfsplus-tools, will these work with the Plus kernel? I still have to pull the drive from that infernal iMac case, so can't test yet. Thank you for any clues, my Google-foo isn't finding anything on the Plus kernel and HFSPlus. --- I yam Popeye of the Borg. Prepares ta beez askimiligrated.

compiling with lsocks support on centos 6?

im trying to compile lftp with socks support and im getting the following.. ... checking for msgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt checking for gmsgfmt... /usr/bin/msgfmt checking for xgettext... /usr/bin/xgettext checking for msgmerge... /usr/bin/msgmerge checking for CFPreferencesCopyAppValue... no checking for CFLocaleCopyCurrent... no checking for GNU gettext in libc... yes checking whether to use NLS... yes checking where the gettext function comes from... libc checking for main in -lsocks5... no configure: error: cannot find -lsocks5 library [jason@nibbler lftp-4.7.2]$ ive looked and cant seem to figure out where to download the libsocks stuff? I found 1 post on the innernets that said that its integrated in the kernel? How can I get this compiled with socks(5) support? Jason

setting up auto logout in CentOS 6

I would like to have my lab workstations logout a session after the person has been idle for a certain period of time. After some searching on the web, I got into /etc/gconf/schemas/gnome-session.schemas and set the default value of max_idle_action to “forced-logout”: <schema> <key>/schemas/desktop/gnome/session/max_idle_action</key> <applyto>/desktop/gnome/session/max_idle_action</applyto> <owner>gnome</owner> <type>string</type> <default>forced-logout</default> <gettext_domain>gnome-session-2.0</gettext_domain> <locale name="C"> <short>The action to take after the maximum idle time</short> <long>The name of the action to take when the maximum allowed idle time has been reached. The Delay is specified in the "max_idle_time" key. Allowed values are: logout, forced-logout. An empty string disables the action.</long> </locale> </schema> but the system is not logging me out after the max_idle_time. Is there something I’m missing? Centos 6.8 GDM possible bug: can't log into another user

Hello everyone, Since I upgraded to CentOS 6.8 last week, I am having an issue whereby I log out, and then it attempts to log me in as the same user. I then click on another user and try to log in, but it instantly blows me right out and back to the login prompt for the original user. I do have GDM set up to auto-login at boot to a particular user in /etc/gdm/custom.conf, but it has always allowed me to log into another account while on the Gnome desktop, sitting in front of the computer. Has anyone else seen this issue? firewall-config not functional

I have a number of machines (hardware and VMs) running CentOS 7. I all cases firewall-config is not functional. First, the service check boxes are not functional. When you click on one, it don't change to "checked", and nothing changes on the firewall. However you do see a "Changes applied" Sometimes, f you go to permanent mode and attempt to edit a zone, the whole desktop locks up as soon as you click on the default target dropdown. When I run firewall-config from the command line I see the following: -------------------------- org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files (firewall-config:5079): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_view_get_path_at_pos: assertion 'tree_view != NULL' failed -------------------------- with the second line repeating many times and often while attempting to interact with the GUI. We don't use NetworkManager except on laptops, and so do not install it. Though we do install NetworkManager-glib, if only because some packages require it. After seeing a similar bug on the RHEL I also installed NetworkManager-libnm, but that did not make a difference. That RHEL bug also mentioned this problem only occurs on KDE, and not Gnome. And we only install KDE when a GUI is required, or desired. Emmett
