ElasticSearch Logrotate not working

Hey guys, I have this log rotation script setup in my /etc/logrotate.d folder /var/log/elasticsearch/*.log { daily rotate 100 size 50M copytruncate compress delaycompress missingok notifempty create 644 elasticsearch elasticsearch } And I notice that log files are still being generated that are upwards of 7 or 8 GBs. Can anyone point out to me where the script is going wrong, and why log files for ES are growing so incredibly big? I would think that having that logrotate script in place should solve that problem. CentOS 6.7->6.8, ssh-add issue

Folks, I am perplexed. I updated my workstation at work Wed before I left, from 6.7 to 6.8. Then, yesterday, I went to use ssh-add -s libcoolkeypk11.so, which I've done many times before to add the certs from my PIV card... and 100% of the time if fails, letting me SSH_AGENT_FAILURE, cannot add card. Now, using a script called sccr, which uses my public and private key to generate a one-time password (we use the to sudo to root), works with no problem. I used my card to go into the data center this morning, which also reads my card, and had no problem. I've tried eval $(ssh-agent) to start a new instance. Nothing works. Also, pklogin-finder finds the cards, asks for my PIN< and it works. Clues for the poor? mark

SAS drive not showing [SOLVED]

*Finally* found the answer. The case was, if you'll recall, that I had replaced a pair of older, smaller drives with a couple of 8TB SATA drives, and made it RAID1 using the PERC firmware. I was then going to wipe the drive. First, the old ones turned out to be SAS, no SATA. I had tried shoving it into a similar Dell, which I regularly use for shoving SATA drives in, and copying over the network, then putting them (larger drives) in place of the ones they were replacing on other servers. This just wouldn't show as /dev/sdx, the way the SATA did. The solution: a script I found on the 'Net lsi.sh, which depends on you having MegaRaid on the box, shows the four drives, but that one was listed as "unconfigured good". What I needed to do was use MegaCLI64 to first display foreign configurations... and regardless of the other three SATA drives, did show only one, and that was from this SAS drive. I then did a clear foreign configuration. After that, I could use PDMakeJBOD, and all is wonderful. mark

LXC containers - systemd takes a long time to start

I've got a CentOS7 server (fully patched) and in it I'm running several LXC containers. I've noticed that whenever I try to launch a service via `systemctl start <service_name>` soon after LXC boot, it will take ~5 minutes before the prompt returns. After that initial delay, starting/stopping/restarting services happens immediately. It might be that this happens because the server is running a large number of (>20) containers. On next reboot, I'll see if it has the same problem when I have just one container. In the meantime, anyone else seen similar behavior?

Thunderbird .desktop file is renamed in version 45.2

I was starting my Thunderbird via a script and I thought I would post that the name of the desktop file has changed to help anyone else who was running the desktop file from a script. Old path was: /usr/share/applications/mozilla-thunderbird.desktop New Path is: /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop Thanks, Johnny Hughes

Mounting NFS subdirectories individually or just the parent?

Hello, does it in any respect (throughput/performance, cpu load, I/O load, resilience, ...) matter, if one mounts subdirectories of an NFS (v3) export into separate directories or if one just mounts the parent directory? I.e. like this: server:/export/base/a -> /mnt/a server:/export/base/b -> /mnt/b server:/export/base/c -> /mnt/c server:/export/base/d -> /mnt/d server:/export/base/e -> /mnt/e or simply like this: server:/export/base -> /mnt I would guess, that it doesn matter at all, but at $work the standard setup on all cluster nodes is, to mount >20 subdirectories from the NFS server individually and the justification is, that is more performant and reliable. Can this be confirmed (or denied)? I couldn't find this method of "NFS performance tuning" mentioned anywhere and from a management perspective the sheer amount of mounted filesystems makes the list confusing and harder to troubleshoot. Any thoughts? Regards frank
