GRUB 2 dumps to grub prompt when installed on >4TB disk

Hi All, I have a Dell R710 that has 6x1TB in a RAID-5 configuration. When installing CentOS 7 using the full disk capacity and booting in UEFI mode the machine dumps me into a GRUB rescue mode prompt. error: disk `,gpt2' not found Entering rescue mode... grub rescue> If I use the PERC RAID controller to make the disk smaller ROOTDISK volume of 100GB in size and then a DATA volume of the rest of the disk the system boots just fine so this seems like a GRUB2 issue. Hello In a VM with CentOS 7, kernel 3.10.0-327.28.3.el7.x86_64, the console root login shows "[ 72.776182] dm-0: WRITE SAME failed. Manually zeroing". What is wrong? Regards, MM

CentOS 7, memory hungry (2.5GB) without user and heavy services running

Hello, The last weekend, the VM with CentOS 7 (kernel-3.10.0-327.28.2.el7.x86_64) was running with 2.5GB of used memory, but without users connected, and heavy services running. yum does not recognise new (updated) packages due to underscore in package name

Hi all, we are currently working on porting software from x86_64 to aarch64. We are working with the altarch aarch64 repos: http://mirror.centos.org/altarch/7/os/aarch64/Packages/ http://mirror.centos.org/altarch/7/extras/aarch64/Packages/ http://mirror.centos.org/altarch/7/updates/aarch64/Packages/ However, it seems that yum (and eventually rpm) has problems with identifying new packages, if you have packages named as: <name>-<version>-<release>.el7_x.y.<arch>.rpm <name>-<version>-<release>.el7.y.<arch>.rpm A concrete example is the package selinux-policy-3.13.1-60.el7.3.noarch.rpm in the os repo. It has an updated package (selinux-policy-3.13.1-60.el7_2.7.noarch.rpm) in the updates repo. However, the underscore seems to be interpreted as a dot and hence leads to the package located in the os repo to be considered as newer. Maybe, this was tried to be addressed by also copying a corresponding version selinux-policy-3.13.1-60.el7_2.3.noarch.rpm into the os repo. However, this of course is also regarded as older (for the same reason) and thus still leads to the initial package to have precedence. Do I miss out on something here? In addition, it might well be that this is not only an issue to the aarch64 repos, but also to other architectures. Is it a known issue and if yes, are there any attempts to correct this? As from what I can tell so far, it is not a problem of yum or rpm, but some inconsistencies in naming the packages in the centos repos. Canon scanner LiDE 220

This scanner is supported according to the SANE page, but doesn't work on my up-to-date C7 system (updated 20 minutes ago). The Canon web site is as expected - as useful as a chocolate tea pot. Has anyone managed to get this to run, and if so can you share the secret please.

Sound failure in CentOS 6.8

Sound stopped working on my CentOS 6.8 system several months ago. I've tried everything I can to find out what's wrong. It is not the hardware; if I boot into a live dvd of 6.8 (or any other OS), the sound works perfectly. So something must have changed in my configuration. I've compared files on my system and another CentOS 6.8 system with working sound and I haven't found any differences relating to sound configuration. I've scoured the web for help, and found a few sites where people reported the same problem, but none of their "solutions" work. Many refer to sndconfig and system-config-soundcard which don't exit in 6.8. I've spent countless hours looking through alsa (and other) documentation for any hints that might help. Nothing. If I crank up the volume on the speakers, and set kmixer to max, I hear a low level of white noise coming from the speakers. This noise does not occur when I first boot up, but kicks in somewhere during the boot process, I'm guessing when the system is attempting to initialize the sound card.
